One of my favorite places to visit when I come back home. The French fries (small) is a half of bag worth. The burger was grilled to perfection with flavorful chili that was plentiful. The Hat is a must anytime I come to Los Angeles. I was visiting family in the area, so I tried the Simi Valley location. Right in line with what you'd expect from the Hat. The food was great! We order The Pastrami Dip (extra pickles of course), the chili cheese fries with pastrami, some onion rings and fries. The portion sizes are massive, so the kids all ate the chili cheese fries and knocked right out. Definitely recommend! read more

I love The Hat. I've been to the original in Alhambra, the one in Monterey Park, in Pasadena, and even in Irvine. I've been to this one over 10 years ago and came back to this location because I was in the area and just had to have their famous pastrami dip sandwich. OMG. Without a doubt this is the worst sandwich I've ever eaten in my life and it wasn't even close. Even subways pastrami when they had it was better than this. I can't believe people actually like the food here or I came on a very very bad day. I ordered a pastrami sandwich the bread was boxed prepackaged second or third day stale as shit crap. The pastrami was fatty. Ice cold, 100% leftovers from who knows when without even a half-assed effort to reheat, and disgusting.. 2 Pickle slices and a trace of mustard. An absolutely head-stratchingly abysmal sandwich beyond explanation. Wasted $13 on this garbage, 7 bucks gas 32 miles roundtrip, and almost 2 hours of my time. Threw away half and left. The cashier / sandwich maker wasn't very friendly and there were crumbs on the tables and grease upon opening. I should have taken those as an omen. Absolute disgraceful beyond words. The Hat has been around FOREVER and there's a reason it's been so successful for so long. Their food is consistently good. I've been coming here for over 30 years... I can't come here without getting the pastrami dip sandwich and onion rings. They have a drive-thru which is super convenient, especially when my kids are with me. Otherwise, they offer inside seating (booths) and refills on soft drinks, including orange bang! There's plenty of parking right outside, and bathrooms inside. You order at the counter, and then they call your order number over the loudspeaker when it's ready. Definitely worth checking out! read more

I absolutely love this place. I used to go often as a kid with my dad but hadn't been back in maybe 8 years. I went with my boyfriend at about 8:30ish on a weekday and we did drive thru which was busy! That was cool to see. Let's just say, the food was freaking awesome. I got a pastrami sandwich that was absolutely loaded and full of amazing flavors. It wasn't soggy which I was really impressed with considering the amount of meat. That's to say to that the quantity food is amazing for the price. Thank god they give real portions. They also gave us our order of large onion rings and damn they were fire. Hot and fresh. Where did the flavor go? Where did the meat go? So sad how this once unbelievable restaurant that would make everyone I know crave it has lost its way. I know costs are high but shrinking the sandwiches to nothing and clearly not seasoning or using the same quality pastrami that it used to be is not a way to get people to come back. Where I live we do have 3 locations and I never tried so this a first. I ordered the chili cheese burger , the pastrami sandwich, potato salad, and fries ! The person gave us a lot to sauce and was very sweet. We came around 10ish so close to closing . I'm giving The Hat in Simi 5 stars for the worse customer service! They definitely excel in that. Got my order but they didn't give me my small fries- no big deal. Went to the counter and they totally ignored me. I mean even with me saying excuse me a few times. Eventually someone helped me but they were rude since I was bothering them. My son's burger had a long hair in it. Bleh! The pastrami sandwich was ok- I think the problem was that the day before we had eaten at a great cafe in DTLA and had their pastrami and that was to die for so this was a let down.
