Mr. Fish and Chips, is a very small and cozy, Mom and Pop eatery on Cochran, in Simi Valley. It is part of a strip mall and its location is really hidden from the main view. However, there is a steady stream of customers that come here to dine in or pick up. Of course, I came here for the fish and chips, even though they had fried chicken, oysters and other fare on the menu. After ordering and paying at the counter, I asked to use the restroom, which was only accessible through the kitchen section. On my return, I witnessed the lady (one of the owners, I presume), vigorously whipping up batter in a large cylindrical container. It explains why, when the fish pieces came out to me, they were crisp, non oily, not smothered and flavorful. The two fish pieces were rectangular (processed fish a ha), but surprisingly, the fish was flaky, moist and tasty. Actually, if it was shaped better, you would never have guessed it was not fresh. The French fries were also prepared to order so they came out hot and delicious. I am glad I stopped by. Got the Pan Fried Cod Fillet w/ Fried Zucchini and Rice. 10/10 and love that the fillet is fried in egg. For the price, I can't give this anything less than five stars. It's an Asian take on fish and chips which means they also have an Asian menu with things like dumplings and eggrolls, but they use the tempura style batter for the fish, which is quite an interesting fusion. From someone who has eaten fish and chips in England and Ireland, I have to say this is pretty top-notch and while the dipping sauces are probably the weakest point overall, a lunch special starting at $8.99 is few and far between to find in this economy. They make it fresh, so you have to order 30 minutes ahead. The portion/value is outstanding. N4 is the way to go, you can split it or have leftovers. The reviews didn't mention it is really for to go food, only a couple tables not really designed for dine in. It is also mostly Asian food, not really featuring the fish and chips. Several people really liked the fried mushrooms so I tried them and a two piece "fish and chips" I will say the mushrooms were fresh and the batter light. The mushrooms had a good flavor, I would recommend The fish not so good, I was expecting flaky white cod as is normal, instead it was more of a cake of compressed fish. I did not prefer this type of fish. The batter was different, I would think it possibly was just a piece of frozen pre-battered fish. The grease was pouring out from everywhere. The lady in charge said they changed the oils and they would change them back the next day. They never offered either one of us an option for a credit or cashback that's not how you treat people as we couldn't eat one thing on our plates. I go out once a week, trying to find something new to eat. I love eating fish and chips, so I visited this place. The place was clean, and the person at the counter, was polite and friendly. When I got the food, took it home, I opened it up to find two large pieces of fish, a small coleslaw, tarter sauce and large fries. The fish tasted great. The coleslaw was good, but the fries were plain. No flavor. I was kinda hoping for some seasonal salt or some real flavor to the fries. Even with ketchup, the fries tasted plain. The prices are good in this day and age. I just wish the fries were flavorful. I will come here again and try something else to see whether to give the business a five star or keep it as four. We ordered the fish and chips and a side of fried mushrooms and zucchini. The fish was flaky and breaded just right and the fry was perfectly golden and not too greasy. I thought they were perfect. It came with French fries which were good and a small container of coleslaw which tasted like KFC coleslaw, which I like, so I might have liked more. The fried zucchini and mushrooms were excellent. They were lightly battered and fresh and I would definitely get them again. If you are a fish and chip fan, give this place a try. It's not fancy, but it's really good, as are the prices. read more

When I got home I there were 2 pieces of fish, no shrimp and 3 pieces of zucchini in one container. Another container with 7 pieces of zucchini that I did not need but paid for. If you go there, make sure they understand what you're ordering and check your package before you leave. This small shop is owned by an older Korean couple. Upon walking in on a Saturday around noon time, there was only 1 other person dining here. Hopefully this is not the norm. I ordered the 2 pcs. fish & chips for about $11. Took about 5 minutes or so for the food to come out. When it came out, it bigger than I thought it was going to be. I can see the golden batter and it looked crispy. Started on the fried first because the fish was still hot. Make sure you season it with salt/pepper before it starts to cool. One weird thing that I noticed was that the tartar sauce came in a container twice the size of the Cole slaw. This was weird because it's usually the other way around. Anyway, I finally took a bite of the fish and it was really crispy. The batter wasn't too heavy/thick. I liked it, but it was bland. Adding the salt and pepper made it a lot better and actually made the fish a little sweeter. The fries were just ok. Nothing special about them. The Cole slaw was on the sweeter side and reminded me of what KFC's slaw tasted like. I wish they gave you more than that small plastic cup that you usually put ketchup or salsa in to. The tartar sauce was on the running side and reminded me of ranch dressing. I thought it was definitely overkill with the amount they give you. All in all, if I were ever in the Simi Valley again and craving for Fish & Chips, I might stop here. But I would not make the trek from West Hills all the way out here just to eat here. read more

I had the Number 1 lunch special- mini egg roll, fried zucchini, fish and chips. And a side order of onion rings. It was all sooo delicious and crispy, thick fish! Nice little hole in the wall place with a new clean inside seating area. I got it to go and the food was still incredibly hot, well I honestly did hear them frying up my food fresh in the back kitchen.
