Marilyn's Mediterranean Kitchen is truly a gem. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted by such a warm and welcoming team that makes you feel right at home. Marilyn herself is wonderful, and it clearly shows in the culture she's created--her entire staff is attentive, kind, and genuinely cares about the experience they provide. The restaurant is immaculate, which immediately gives you confidence in the quality and care behind everything they do. But the real highlight... is the food. Absolutely incredible. Hands down the best Mediterranean food I've ever had. My go-to plate is the chicken kebabs with tzatziki sauce on the side--perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and consistently delicious every single time. If you're looking for amazing food, a clean and inviting atmosphere, and a team that truly goes above and beyond, Marilyn's Mediterranean Kitchen is a must-visit. Highly recommend! read more

The gyro plate was excellent. Beware that the prices stated on the menu are not what the bill will state. When asked about the price increase, I was told that the menu prices are for cash only. They charge more for credit cards. It does not state this anywhere on the menu. She referred me to some tiny sign below the register which I did not read. When the bill was presented, they had no idea whether I would pay by cash or credit. I consider this to be a deceptive practice. If they are going to automatically bill you as if you were using credit, then that is the price that should be stated on the menu. Then they could state on the menu that they offer a discount for cash. read more

Marilyn's is in fact open again. They are in the process of getting their liquor license. I stopped in today, to grab lunch. I ordered a gyro and hummus The hummus has great presentation and the flavor was really good. The hummus had a pitted Kalamata olive and a few whole garbanzo beans with a few half slices of cucumber. The gyro was 95% meat, the lettuce and tomato were fresh and even when I got home the lettuce was not wilted. The pita bread was still warm and pillow soft. The tzatziki sauce had great flavor. Definitely can't wait to come back again and try more dishes. read more

5/5 Stars .... First time coming to this location. Was craving Mediterranean's food and this was the first sport the came up. The Hummus the chicken everything from start to finish was juicy tasteful and exquisite. Would highly recommend coming here. The next thing on the menu when I come back is the fish. Ohh and one more thing the service from both gentlemen working that day 10/10. read more

Phenomenal flavors. Service is excellent. Our food came out in less than 10 minutes. The gyro and hummus have really raised my expectations for other Mediterranean restaurants. Tzatziki needed a bit more flavor, but don't get me wrong it was good. Workers are really nice and friendly. Once they see you they're not going to forget your face. Wish it got more attention!! read more

Couldn't even take a picture because we just started chowing down on the food right away. We both got classic beef and lamb gyro and it was incredible in both plate and pita sandwich form. Hummus, tzatziki, and the best crispy, battered fries I've had in a while. Beyond the food, the service is incredible and you can tell they care about quality. Will definitely be back read more

Excellent food, fresh and clean. Marilyn treats every person like family! She told me them just reopened after 5 years. And that Google still shows closed. Well it's wide open and the food is amazing. Highly recommend!!! read more

A friend and I enjoyed for the first time yesterday, lunch at Marilyn's. The restaurant, though small, offers both indoor and outdoor dining, and the selection of food offerings is good. I had the shrimp salad and my friend had the fish tacos, which we both enjoyed. The baklava dessert was divine and not to be missed! Our server was attentive and eager to ensure that everything was to our satisfaction. And the $5 off coupon (check out The Shopper), was a happily added bonus! read more

Solid Mediterranean meal, chicken gyro is thinly sliced and not greasy. Nice family works there and they give you a generous amount of food. Although the pita bread is store bought it's actually pretty good and soft, and I have quite a lot of experience with Mediterranean food, the hummus is also good, different than the "creamy/dessert (Lebanese)" hummus, more on the bean side, it's good. read more

The chicken gyro is sooo good! The chicken is tasty!! They give you a big portion of meat too, like 70% meat, 30% your chosen side. I love that they give 2 sides too when you order a plate. I get the rice and hummus and it's a complete meal. The owner and employees there are so kind, I am happy to support a small business that appreciates their community. read more

Wow! Marilyn's Mediterranean Kitchen! The owner of West Coast Seafood right next door and now her own restaurant, the food quality is unmatched anywhere! She has over 30 years experience in fresh seafood and has a great palate for fine Mediterranean cuisine! This is easily the best Mediterranean food in all of Los Angeles/Ventura county! I drive up here from North Hollywood just to get the Beef Shawarma sandwich, amazing! It's one of those places where you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Tried it for the first time because of good reviews and it's local. The food we had was amazing. The beef gyro wrap was absolutely stuffed with delicious thin slices of a beef/lamb combo meat and the chicken schwarma wrap was seasoned to perfection. We also had a very good hummus side that was included with the sandwiches. Can't wait to go back again! read more

Nice small restaurant in a little plaza. Friendly service and there seemed to be a few patrons who were regulars. The menu included Mediterranean options but there was also fresh fish listed on a side board that you could do with sides or pasta. The food I'm afraid didn't hit the mark - * the ceviche and chips were good but a lot more tomato than fish, * the beef tri-tip was really good but the babaganoush and tzatziki it came with didn't have much flavor, * the fish (red snapper) was a huge piece but did not taste good, it had a weird taste and smell. We ended up taking it home and asked my mom if she wanted it; she said it was spoiled and asked me how I didn't smell it but we just thought it was due to the spices - pretty disappointing I'm hoping the fish situation was a one-off and/or we were wrong about it being spoiled because serving bad fish is definitely bad for business. Also our bad for not saying anything at the time but we honestly thought it was the seasoning we weren't liking but maybe we should've said something nonetheless... read more

Wow, what a gem. Every customer leaves with a smile. The staff are energetic, upbeat, polite, and friendly. The food is homemade and amazingly fresh. I enjoyed the scallops plate, ceviche, and Chilean seabass plate very much. The seafood is fresh from the seafood market next door. When we put in our order, we saw Marilyn go next door to get the seafood and brought it to the chef to cook. The scallops were huge and seared while juicy inside. The seabass was incredibly juicy, tender, and flavorful. read more

Marilyn's serves mostly food from the the old region known as the Levant or the lands bordering the eastern Mediterranean in the direction where the sun seems to rise. Also included are Greece, Armenia, & Turkey along with Italy, a touch of Spain. There is a taco dish originally from México possibly in homage to California having been a territory of México & Spain. Or anything can now be put in a taco & sells well even in as chic a Nouvelle Cuisine restaurant as Michael's in Santa Monica during the reign of Chef de Cuisine John Carlos Kuramoto now heading Ainoko in West Hollywood. Stripmall, comfortable bare bones setting w/ pictures of Thera/Santorini, the blue Aegean, hardwood tables & chairs, small cozy space that has an unpretentious feel. 1) Hummus (whom moose) bi Tahini can be part of a typical Lebanese Mezze/appetizer. Mashed chickpeas, earthy, funky garlic, sesame paste for nuttiness, lemon juice as a gastrique & sprinkling of red chile powder to enliven the pasty texture. Drizzling of golden virgin olive oil to add luscious, buttery mouthfeel. Chiffonade of green basil for herbal effect. Hummus which means chickpea in Arabic is excellent at Marilyn's serving as a tasty dip for the warm pita flat bread. 2) Beef Gyro (yee roh) Plate: Generous serving of knife cut beef shavings from what may come from vertical rotisserie where thinly sliced, herbed beef piled on top of each other into the shape of a cylinder is roasted. Seasonings for the beef was good but the meat was extremely salty & dried out which detracted from this dish. Nice accompaniment of sautéed broccoli, carrots, zucchini in a bit of brown broth. The menu mentioned Tzatziki (cha chi kee) as another accompaniment which is yogurt, cucumber, garlic, dill, lemon juice. Tzatiki would have been an excellent palate cleanser to to heavy beef flavour & texture. However, without warning I got another small bowl of Hummus instead which was a bummer since I already had ordered the Hummus as an app. Bad planning on part of the kitchen & server. Good part is that I was able to order Asahi Kuro Nama extra dark beer which has smooth, mellow, roasted, toasty rounded grain flavour w/ a touch of treacle & acidity to clear the palate. Bad part was the extra long wait from the time we ordered to the time we got the food. We came about an hour before closing and were the last ones in the restaurant. Everybody ahead of us already had their meals so it was only our party of 4 that the kitchen had to cook for. Marilyn's has good food but that night, the kitchen & staff were not up to snuff. 3+ Yelp stars. read more

Update!!!! Marilyn did contact me and apologized and gave me my money back for the food. This is why I am updating my review! Came today at 11:30 to treat my Dad to lunch. He had the beef wrap with salad, said it was good. I decided to try the fish and chips which actually tasted pretty good! Seemed a bit oily though. The problem was 10 minutes after arriving home I didn't feel well and had the runs. I only had cereal today, so I know I got sick from the food. I have been burping up the oil taste all day and still don't feel well, oil had to been rancid or old. Really a bummer to throw money down the toilet! We used to like coming here, but sadly sickness makes me not want to return. I called at 3:50 to inform the manger, and our waiter Sean said she wasn't in. I let him know I got sick and to let the cooks know. read more

Marilyn's Mediterranean Kitchen - Fish n chips so good! - Mediterranean Near Me - Simi Valley, California

Today the wife and I went to Marilyn's Mediterranean Kitchen for the first time and all I can say is Wow! I had read all the positive Yelp reviews and knew I needed to visit but just never seemed to make it. Don't let the strip mall location fool you. This restaurant serves some amazing food and service is impeccable. The restaurant is pretty small inside and has maybe 10 tables. I noticed many people coming in for take-out which would be a great option as well. The restaurant is clean and the owner was a very sweet lady that stopped by our table and thanked us for coming. Great touch! Our waiter was a young man and he was friendly and efficient and kept our glasses full of great iced tea. The wife ordered the beef shawarma plate with pita and hummus and I ordered the chicken gyro plate with salad and rice. Both plates were absolutely delicious. I know we will be back again within the next week or two! read more

I had never tried this restaurant, although it has been in business for 4 years, and I'm so glad we did! I wanted Mediterranean food and we tried Marilyn's rather than a chain restaurant, as I would prefer to support a local business anyway. The food was fresh and tasty and there is a wide selection. The owners are all family and Marilyn is actually working in the kitchen. They own the fresh seafood market next door so there is a great selection of seafood dishes. But I had the gyro platter which was really good. The rice was light and fluffy and the vegetables were fresh. And the portions are generous. Definitely will be back. read more

Marilyn's Mediterranean Kitchen - Pita and humus appetizer. So fresh and good. - Mediterranean Near Me - Simi Valley, California

This place was off the hook!!! I have tried many Mediterranean places. It was so fresh. Seafood choices galore. There is a seafood market next door. I heard they own that to so the seafood menu made sense. Came on a Wednesday. $5 wine special. Awesome. Had the dolma as an appetizer. The spices were in point. Nothing to over powering. Warmed to the right temp. They were all different sizes. Handmade. The taziki sauce that came with them was delish. For the main entree I had gotten the Kofta plate. Came with 2 choices for side. I went with the hummus and rice. Wow. Kofta was tender juicy and I was in love. The pita bread it came with was fluffy and warm. I had enough for lunch the next day and it was just as good. This is DEFINITELY a place I will come visit again! read more
