Salt Fish and Chips in Lake Balboa is like a favorite bottle that you don't want to open cause it's so so good nothing compares and yet you must open cause it's so so good nothing compares. They have the best. No I mean the best fish and chips. Not the crud you typically get with the oil that is so rancid you don't know what is worse the fish or oil. I am talking about sweet white fish ( possibly cod) that tastes so good and not fishy at all. The fries are even better than McDonalds so crispy on the outside yet tasty on the inside. Yum. The dips. Are yummy too. They prepare daily their own tartar sauce and cocktail sauce. When there they give you large containers of refrigerated tartar, cocktail , and ketchup. All the best of the best. Beverages are like a smorgasbord of choices including. With and without carbonation. Some dinners include the beverage. Price you won't believe how delicious and yet reasonably priced. Old school all the way. They want to make a little on a lot of people knowing that you will be back. Why- its so good, your body says so. But your mind will even trump that. So where can you find the best of the best two large pieces of fish filet, one really jumbo shrimp, a plate of French fries and sauces to your content for $8.95. (Captains Special). All fish two pieces with fries $6.95. All shrimp three pieces with fries $8.95. Drinks cans and bottles range from $1 to $1.89 ( bargain. I paid 2.99 at 7-11 for same Orange Crush but did get 400 useless points cause each time I update my phone I lose 4000 of them. Summed up. - don't eat fish well than have the best chicken strips. My dad complained. Why. He said that for $5.49 with fries. They gave enough for a family not one person. Their onion rings are yummy. Their Cole slaw they make and if still available at night is so good. So Fish and chips are the best and don't have to be smothered in that horrible hot sauce so you don't get food poisoning. Been their done that. Get really fine fish and chips plus more at a price that you and your family is comfortable with and your taste buds is ecstatic with. You will keep on coming here for years and years like I have, with my family and have continued since my mama passed three and a half years ago but I still feel her presence. My dad does not like fish or seafood but he can't get enough of the epic seasoning that is part of the Chicken Breadt Strips Meal. The owner is a doll. She gave us a sample of the new chicken breast a couple of weeks ago last week she we gave a sample of the epic chicken. Tonight a sample ( medium size of her freshly made most delious Cole Slaw). Everything here is made in house with a couple of exceptions. The Tartar and Cocktail Sauce; Cole Slaw; etc are all made in house. They are so wonderful. The taste is beyond compare. You feel you're at you're aunt Peggy's house and she has made you a treat. You are not eating food from a bag, jar, or can. The owner cannot be sweeter and more caring. She makes you feel like no matter your age, you are one of her children. My dad is almost 82 years of age, and he too is treated like one of her one. Please you gotta try H Salt Fish and Chips. I was really in the mood for fish and chips so I looked this place up on Yelp. I watched the food preparer get 3 perfectly triangular pieces of frozen solid fish from a bag; very processed looking. Then batter dip them and put them in the fryer. 20 minutes later I had 3 dense, and hard to chew batter dipped fish jerky. Awful! The most unappealing fish I've ever had. Normally pretty quiet, this place gets crazy busy on Fridays during Lent. I prefer to order ahead, which saves time during their busy nights. Parking is easy, again, so long as it's not during their busy time (mentioned above). Location is small, but there are a few tables should you decide to eat there. Plain wrap decor, I think patrons that eat there are more interested in the food than the ambiance. If you've been to one before, you'll know what to expect. The interior is simple yet functional. The menu has specials built in so take the time to do some math gymnastics and you can save a little money. I usually don't care much for the fries because they tend to soak up the cooking oil but this last time they were very good. Maybe I caught them when new oil was used. It's been over 30 years and for some crazy reason i was craving "fish and chips" so decided to drive the 20 minutes just to get it.
