They were also out of the Melted Cast-Iron Brie Small Plate that we were excited about ordering for the table. We loved this restaurant because of the dark and jungle-themed interior. We were excited to see the bold taxidermy featuring the large cats combined with the ornate, gold- framed dapper animal art hanging on the walls. Another reason to love this spot: hidden inside is an entrance to a secret cocktail lounge, or speakeasy, called "Drop Dead Gorgeous." We also appreciated the entire restaurant centering around a glowing, raw wood-fire cooking pit. We could hear and watch our entrées being prepared. What we didn't love so much: the items that we would've liked to have ordered were unavailable. The price to portion ratio in the small bites could also be improved a bit. Even though we changed our mind and got this sent to our table accidentally, I would order this again. It was very delicious and it comes out as an adorable little tomato shaped and colored milk bread with the toppings looking like the stem on top. So tasty and everybody loved it. A little small for our party of five. - Lemongrass Half Chicken (5/5) - Caramelized carrots, kyoto roasted garlic, mashed potatoes & jalapeno jam. Hubs loved this. We shared their popular short ribs (they charged $2 for plate share) which were cooked to tender perfection and served over a creamy white bean puree. Delicious for sure! The roasted brussel sprouts were too salty. The deviled eggs were okay, but pricey for 2.5 eggs, which I do pay at Trader Joe's for organic free range pasturized eggs I could've gotten over 2 dozens. But, yes, I pay for the service and ambiance. I really thought there would be more than 5 halves for the deviled eggs. We got the nachos and they were okay. The melted cheese sauce was the best part. You know what I mean? I did bring a special order cake I got at Nothing Bundt Cakes in Gilbert. I asked Culinary Dropout if we could borrow a cake cutter. They didn't have one. Weird. This was a Red Velvet cake and this was absolutely divine. It was moist. The frosting was some sort of yummy cream cheese frosting. The cake was perfectly sized for our party of 14. The cake was the best part of our meal and it didn't come from Culinary Dropout. I would pay this much for a meal at Roy's for lunch for this sized party, but alas, all the Roy's in the valley are closed down. So sad. I'm not saying this place is bad or the food tastes bad. It's okay and pricey. If the food was great or amazing, we don't mind pricey. We have paid over $1K for meals for our big party, and happily do so when the food is equivalent to the price.
