It's a little hard to see their sign from the street, but your GPS will take you right in. The staff is very friendly. Nice natural light. Very colorful, decorations, and an extensive menu of traditional Mexican foods. I had the luncheon burrito with Carnitas. They added rice and beans to the filling, so it was actually very simple to just pick up the burrito and have a complete meal all in one place. The Carnitas was tender and had a nice flavor. They have a section for sauces and other toppings if you want. The chips and salsa were delicious. Prices are excellent. It was clear to me that this is very popular with the locals.

If you know anything about the economics of independent restaurants, you know that what I've just described is what you should be looking for. As a stop for a quick meal on highway 54, La Pasadita totally works out. You'll get a plate of solid Mexican cuisine from a friendly server, and be able to pay your money (at the window, of course) and get back on the road in a reasonable amount of time. The enchiladas are delicious. I had mine Christmas style (one with red sauce and one with green) and both sauces tasted great. The sopaipillas are warm and airy. La Española is a true local's favorite. You can tell that the friendly servers know most of the patrons and that the patrons mostly know one another. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but you'll feel the energy once you step inside. The Mexican plates are heaping with food, but that food is sort of mediocre. The portions and the prices are the draw. Another reviewer complained about the cheese. I concur. On my last visit I got cheese enchiladas and the cheese reminded me of canned nacho cheese or cheese from the industrial mac and cheese sold by a food service company. All of the Mexican plates can be upgraded with a big scoop of green chile for extra kick. Dessert is a sopaipilla or two which come hot from the fryer. I recommend those. On my next visit, I'm going to try the burgers. I saw some on plates coming out of the kitchen and they looked formidable.

The shredded beef was placed in home made corn tortillas that were lightly fried. These flautas were just like grandma used to make, and a great surprise; far superior to the typical commercially made and deep fried variety. The retired beans were authentic made with real lard and had a buttery taste which complements the heat of the Pico de Gallo perfectly. Like any hole in the wall restaurant, you must over look the condition of the building, accept the less than fancy tables, and focus on the friendly service and spectacular food.

I do't even know how many times I've stopped and eaten here while passing through Dalhart. I do know this... we are RVers and live over 350 miles away but we almost always spend the night in Dalhart because of the XIT grill. In visiting with the server tonight, who was 5 stars, he mentioned that the restaurant was under new ownership or management. I had asked about the bread that they used to serve - and is one of my reasons for stopping - and he said that management had decided to go with bread "buns"it's a roll. It's okay, but not special like the loaves used to be. That change brings one star and might be enough to discourage me from choosing Dalhart as our "layover" point. I had the cowboy sirloin. It had good flavor and was cooked perfectly, but it was as tough and chewy as a leather boot. These items can be fixed. The margins might not be be as high ot the price might need to go up. Your choice, but you just dropped below a great little BBQ spot - and this meal was not worthy of spending the night for and especially not planning a night in Dalhart. That means the place we stay loses, where we buy fuel loses. Where we normally have breakfast loses. Here's an error in many businesses. They gorget to consider fixed costs when trying to raise margins. I know overall margins are small, but margins on food are usually 69% plus. Think about your customer count and see if the changes you've implemented are a feel good improvement or an actual overall improvement. As you do your calculations, include what it costs to retain business because lower quality doesn't really pay off unless you're running a fast food restaurant.

Do NOT stop here if you are passing through. I was stranded in the drive thru for nearing one HOUR…read more I am not exaggerating. The answer by the manager and drive thru employee was "sorry, we're swamped but he (I assume manager) says it's only been 25 minutes. That 25 minutes was AFTER I placed the order. It was a 20+ minute wait before that because you are held hostage in the drive thru because they have it all curbed off. You cannot escape. After my initial complaint (I'm usually not a complainer, hate confrontations) was minimized to "25 minutes" it was an additional 15 minutes, for a grand total of an hour wait. In addition this location is dirty. And as you can probably guess the order was incorrect in almost every way. I understand it's hard to retain employees right now, but it's on the manager to stop taking orders or inform customers of 45+ wait BEFORE they are trapped in line. This added an hour to a cross country trip.
