Ate here at the recommendation of another restaurant in town, as I was wanting breakfast and they had stopped serving at 11am. So I drove across town because I was told their pancakes were amazing. The pancakes came with 3 eggs. The grill was obviously too hot-- because the eggs were fried hard on the outside but not done in the inside. I cut off the overdone edges of the eggs (which was pretty much all of them) and moved them off the side of my plate. Everything tasted burnt. The pancakes were singed black around the edges. Visiting for work and i wouldnt even give 1 star if i didnt have too food was trash! Service sucked! Slow and it was just a party of 2 and waited over a hour and they serve chips but no salsa??? They have a "salsa bar" she told me and was very pricey for the trash food they serve never coming back here and i dont recommend this place to anyone! Stay far away! read more

Stopped in at this wonderful little place for a quick lunch on a trip with family from Denver to Dallas. When we arrived there were six State Trooper vehicles in the parking lot - that let us know the food must be good! We started by sampling roasted jalapeños and thee different types of salsas from the salsa bar - all yummy, and then dug in to a big bowl of super-fresh guacamole (really generous and delicious guacamole). Our table ordered a few kids meals, ground beef burritos, carnitas and chicken tacos (on yummy homemade flour tortillas). Everything was really delicious and the service was terrific! La cabana We spent the night in Dalhart and found this delightful little place just off the highway. GREAT tacos! The chips were fresh--all 3 fresh salsas delicious! Homemade tortillas! We liked it so much we came back for breakfast. The place is clean, the staff welcoming and warm, the food authentic! There is a drive-up window with a steady stream of patrons during our breakfast. Easy to find--a little orange building a couple of blocks off the highway. We'll stop here again for sure! read more

We were on a long road trip and stopped in Dalhart for the night. This place was recommended by the hotel staff as the best Mexican food in town. Was told they have a drive through. We found it and you would've never known there was a drive through because there was no menu up outside for people to order from and no signage. Just a small window to drive up to. Which seems to work for the locals because it was pretty steady with trucks going through. We went inside to order out so we could look at a menu. They have quite a large menu so maybe that's why nothing is posted outside. Idk. The staff and service was so great. We ordered and sat at a table to wait. They were kind enough to give us chips and salsa while we waited for our take out. That's unheard of so that was so nice. It was fairly packed with locals. They had coolers of drinks and a salsa bar. A TV was on and approximately 8 tables inside. We ordered tacos and quesadillas. It was ok but it's not a place I'd return to if in town again. Maybe it's because I've traveled all over the country and have had some pretty amazing Mexican food elsewhere. This place I'd pass on as a traveler. read more

Traveling down US 87, we were looking for a place to stop for a break that wasn't a chain. We searched and La Cabana came up with a pretty good Yelp rating, so we thought we'd give it a try! Wow!!! It was a quaint little place with maybe 7 or 8 tables, and the food was so delicious!! We tried a few different things because everything looked and sounded so good. I got a shredded beef chimichanga and shredded chicken flautas. My husband got a Chile relleno plate and an asada sope. We both tried each of the dishes and couldn't decide what our favorites were! They have a good little kids menu, which our boys just stuck to chicken nuggets and French fries (), but there were other tasty options that were more authentic. Prices were more than reasonable, especially for the quantity and quality we received. We would gladly patron this restaurant again when we come through!!! read more

Passing through Dalhart and wanted some decent Mexican food. Reading the reviews this place sounded like the best bet. And like the reviews say, there's no sign to let you know where it's at, but the address is correct. It may look sketchy on the outside, but inside is comfy and simple. The salsa bar is great, I liked all 3 types they offered. I ordered the pastor dinner with corn tortillas and was blown away. The pastor had great flavor and wasn't greasy like some. La Cabaña Restaurant is located at 403 Liberal Street, Dalhart, Tx. I'm surprised La Cabaña Restaurant hasn't been rated more times on Yelp but I believe it is due to a misunderstanding on their address being listed under another restaurant's name on Yelp. My husband and I were craving Mexican food on our trip back from Westcliffe, Colorado. We found La Cabaña Restaurant by mistake but I'm so glad we found it. We will be returning anytime we are in this part of Texas. Yelp had a different restaurant name with great reviews listed at this address. Of course we didn't find that out until we drove up to the restaurant. When we drove up and noticed the sign said La Cabaña Restaurant instead of the other place we initially were after, we were a bit skeptical of the place since I didn't see it appear on my Yelp searches but we decided to give it a try. La Cabaña Restaurant (who deserves the 5 stars I've rated it) is a tiny place with maybe ten tables, one waitress (also check out clerk) was very friendly and helpful though I don't remember her mentioning her name. My husband ordered a Chile Relleno (stuffed with potatoes and cheese) platter that came with rice and beans and I ordered a Chile Relleno a la Carte which the waitress offered to bring out with lettuce, a slice of tomato, and pico de Gallo on the side - I imagine so the plate wouldn't look so bare with just the Chile Relleno. While my husband and I waited on our food we helped ourselves to a salsa bar that contained three kinds of great tasting salsa (green tomatillo salsa, salsa Fresca with green onion, and a red asada) after the waitress brought chips to our table. When our food came out my husband was impressed his meal platter came with HOMEMADE flour tortillas (not store bought) and I was a bit jealous I didn't order any. The salsas and the food were all so great I felt compelled to write this review and clarify the address issue. I wonder how many reviews on YELP for this address are truly La Cabaña Restaurant and not the other restaurant named. I'll never know that but what I do know is we had an extremely pleasant experience with La Cabaña Restaurant, the food was delicious, and the prices were very reasonable!! My husband starting eating his Chile relleno platter before I could snap a picture of it so you only see my platter. Both our meals and his Mexican Coca-Cola were only $16.48!! A nice little hole in the wall place next to a seedy motel. At first, my hubby and I thought do we really want to go here! We decided to listen to the yelp reviews. He had a chicken burrito which was ginormous and I had chicken and cheese enchiladas with green sauce. The chicken enchiladas were full of white meat. Same with the burrito. Visited this town for a family event and needed a place to have breakfast before heading back to Dallas. We stopped by to get gas and a local recommended this little hidden gem! We had table of 8 and everyone asked for something different which included; menudo, asado burrito, huevos rancheros, picadillo gorditas, barbacoa sope, and tacos. Let me tell you that not one SINGLE person was disappointed! Wish we had taken pictures of all the delicious food that we ate. Let me add that the corn tortillas are HOMEMADE!! Service was great and the owner is super sweet! She made sure we were well taken care of. If you are looking for authentic Mexican food, you will not find a better place! Located on Dotson & hwy54. This is great gem we found. We stopped by for a family event and saw this place and decided to give it a try. Hands down one of the best experiences ive had. Great food and service. I ordered one gordita and one sope. They had great taste and a great crunch few people could ever understand unless you've experienced. I ven went as far as trying other people's foods at our table. I can honestly say all food here is given the right kind of love. If your in the area, give it a try. Its worth it.
