You ever walk into a place and immediately think, "Yep... this is either going to be amazing or I'm…read moreabout to make a terrible decision"? Welcome to Judy's Place. Because this spot is not pretending to be anything. This is full-on, unapologetic dive. And I mean that in the best possible way. You walk in and it's like the '70s, '80s, and a little bit of someone's '90s basement bar all got together and said, "Let's not change a thing." Old banquet-style tables, a bar top that feels like it's hosted a thousand stories, and walls that have clearly seen some things. I loved it immediately. Now let's talk food. The folks next to me were deep into the chicken and dumplings and talking about it like it was a life event. You know that kind of table chatter where you start reconsidering your order mid-bite? Yeah, that. I went shrimp po' boy... and no regrets. Shrimp fried just right. Crispy, flavorful, doing exactly what it's supposed to do. Solid sandwich. The fries... eh, they showed up a little tired. Not terrible, just kind of there. A little cold, a little soggy, like they'd already had a long day. But here's the twist. You don't come to Judy's for perfection. You come for personality. For the feeling that you just discovered a place that doesn't care about trends, doesn't need a remodel, and definitely isn't chasing Instagram. It just is what it is... and somehow that works. Fold this into your expectations. If you need polished, keep driving. If you want real, pull up a chair. It's fun. It's different. It's got character for days. Four stars. And honestly, half the star is just for staying exactly the same all these years.

The place where locals go for good quality food at a very reasonable price. We will miss this place…read moreas we prepare to move back to Georgia next week. When we arrived at 6:00 every table was full including the bar on a Thursday night. Our waitress Felecia did an ok job, perhaps it was because of the 100% full, or the heat as the air-conditioning was not working and it was quite warm. Despite those obstacles, the food was tasty as always. I can not imagine how hot the kitchen was. We ordered only entrees tonight. I had the Country fried chicken with okra, coleslaw and hush puppies, I asked for the white gravy on the side and she had the pork chop with fries and broccoli. Both were cooked and seasoned perfectly and full of flavor. This place has been very good for the duration of our stay in Mobile (1.5 years). If you are traveling, this is where the locals eat, if ya know, you know. Fairwell Mobile.

A friend recommended a lunch stop at Mama's after a downtown meeting, and I was thrilled to finally give it a real go. (I'd honestly forgotten about my first impression until I remembered) But that's in the past and I'm happy to wipe the slate clean. This visit, the fried chicken special was delicious and perfectly executed. I tasted the pork chop and it was great as well. The Mac and cheese and collard greens that I ordered as sides, all tasty. I cleaned my plate. The sweet tea is also just as amazing as I remember from before when I tasted it in the wild. Service from Emily, wonderful as well. All in all, Mama's in-house dining is where it's at. Cheers!

Our server remained atop of their game staying attentive & making sure drink orders were maintained…read more& used plates were bussed ensuring enough space for other plates we came back with. From personal observation. Their simplistic display met usual standards with other buffets when speaking about Selection & presentation. Starting with their Cornbread, Mashed Potatoes, Chicken & Salad. Each dish's flavor was lackluster & missing any savory appeal I expect when dining at buffets. Potatoes lacked any airy & fluffy tastes expected. Butter & gravy couldn't enhance any flavor potential. Cornbread contained same disappointment having zero moisture somewhat crumbly dry & flavorless. Chickens nothing to crow about. Its juiciness lacks seasoning & is untender. Meatloaf remains undesirable and also feels dry in texture & taste while having little seasoning. Everything besides homemade desserts was disappointing & my excited anticipation of enjoying their buffet became met with disappointment & heartbreak with every bite. Sadly Golden Corral or local Chinese Buffet outperformed this place. Despite attempts to enhance the flavor with condiments like Ketchup, gravies, or hot sauce. Foods offered remained unpalatable adding towards disappointment with every dish. Thoughts pertaining towards revisiting here would require entree improvements offering a foreseeable future potential for returning could become likely. There are some positives outside of their food being a quaint setting outside reminiscent of some small beautiful beach cottage containing within small cozy simplistic (It's way I love it) interior with nice decor.. Clean interior friendly service enjoyable Strawberry Shortcake. Some positives remain & love to take any opportunities towards leaving positives when I can.
