This is the first time visiting The Grapevine, and I will say I will be back! Our party sat in the patio area where it was nicely decorated and spacious, there was a little fountain and some wing back chairs that people were taking pictures in. Our waiter was nice and on point as the night went on and got busier he seemed to "lose" interest in a table that was already established and food was ordered. So a few times we ran out of water, the kids out of drinks etc. I feel like this is something that is basic service with N/A drinks especially water to keep full. But other than that the food was amazing! My mother and her friend both got the chicken kabobs, my son the chicken fettuccine, I had the eggplant parmigiana, and my daughter had the Pastitsio Greek Lasagna. Are here on a quiet night out. I really enjoyed the ambiance and service. We sat on the patio and it warm even in January. The owner and manager seated us and introduced themselves. The chef could be seen walking around. The waitress and other employees were friendly and efficient and very attentive. It shows that this restaurant is a family owned business and the owners take great pride in providing good hospitality. As for the food, there are many options for vegetarians and an entire vegan menu. It covers both Greek and Italian staples. I got the dolmades dinner. The dolmades were pretty similar to other ones I've had but I did enjoy the green bean side. They used French beans and perfectly sautéed them with a good flavor seasoning. My husband got the penna Ala vodka and they graciously substituted the chicken for mushrooms. However the majority of Italian entree were vegetarian. The pasta had a nice home made quality and flavor to it. The house wine carafes are also pretty good quality. Would definitely eat again. read more

We have at long last gone back to Grapevine after cutting back on the selection of places to eat during the pandemic. We got take out numerous times from Grapevine over the past two years, but the crowds always seemed too daunting to chance things. But those crowds kept this restaurant healthy during Covid, and I am grateful. We have returned! We were in the mood for Italian-American, and Grapevine is your best bet in the west end. We love them for their Greek food as well (and I will order and review that next time) but we have been craving red sauce. We were seated immediately by Mitchell, one of the owners. The place is as we remembered it -- lots of people in jackets and open collars, others in polo shirts, others in jeans. Come as you are, you'll fit in. Service came quickly, as did our drinks. We started with a plate of tempura mushrooms. These were tasty and hot, although the accompanying tzatziki that was promised on the menu was switched at birth in the kitchen and we got ranch dressing instead. It was an okay complement, but should have been mentioned if it was intentional and caught in the kitchen if an accident. Not an issue to raise at the time, it was fine. Otherwise, the shrooms were a great starter for two to share (wife doesn't eat them) and had us ready for more. I had to revisit one of my favorites there, dubbed Chef Michael's Favorite (previously named Spaghetti a la Micheal, if I recall correctly.) It is a good baked spaghetti with sausage, pepperoni, homemade meatballs, mushrooms, and meat sauce. A lot of places do a take on this, I really like Grapevine's. Plenty of meat, and the meatballs are really nicely seasoned. Portion is huge. I upgraded to a greek salad, which was on the small side but thankfully generous with anchovies, pepperoncini, olives, etc. Nice dressing. My wife had spaghetti with a really nice marinara and meatballs, and a greek salad as well. Her craving was more than satisfied. My daughter joined us for dinner and selected the gyro sandwich and fries. She is picky about gyros (I am not as discerning) and she was very happy with her meal. As to service.... best we have had anywhere in a while. Our waitress was pleasant and warm. My wife's request for extra lemon with her tea was delivered upon not just with the first glass but with the two refills we got over the course of the meal. And drinks never got low -- they were checked on 3 times. The kitchen correctly met her request to omit the peppers and anchovies from her salad. In short, the details were mostly well attended. Mitchell came back to check on our table at the end of our meal and chatted for five minutes or so. Honest talk about the business and his family's history in this and another now-gone Richmond restaurant treasure. More than polite talk, he's really an engaging and genuine guy. We left feeling full and happy. Not just satisfied, genuinely uplifted by a nice evening out. So yes, as some reviewers have pointed out, there are high end Italian restaurants in the city that have a stronger following and even a stronger menu. I've eaten in them and I appreciate them too. But for a really pleasant, relaxing evening with Greek or Italian food, Grapevine is our go-to. It's good to be back. read more

The restaurant featured string lights, an indoor and outdoor patio seating area, a live piano player/singer plus a projector with relaxing views of Greece- which set the scene for an upscale and intimate dinner. The Traditional Greek menu featured fish, chicken, pasta etc with a large gluten free selection. I ordered the pork souvlaki which was grilled pork on skewers with marinated veggies and served over rice. Every entree came with a salad. Stopped by for a quick late lunch. Restaurant wasn't very busy and we were seated quickly on covered patio at the side of the building. It's older looking place with green plastic ivy running all around but it has its charm. It's clean but could use some updating in my opinion. Our server was very friendly and nice, got us waters and took our orders without much wait. We got two appetizers that came out very quickly - calamari that looked very nice, had light batter and were crispy fried but a bit chewy, it came with marinara sauce for dipping which was very tasty! We also ordered hummus with warm pita bread and Kalamata olives - hummus was creamy but had 2 whole garlic cloves hidden inside, luckily I didn't bite on it, when I asked our server about it she said that's how it comes with usually 2 garlic cloves, that's a new one for me but overall hummus and pita were good, one more note Kalamata olives had pits so be careful. As our meal we had large Greek salad - nothing special just a regular iceberg lettuce, some cherry tomatoes, few onions, green bell pepper, 2 pepperoncini peppers and 3 olives with some shredded feta cheese on top and big bowl of dressing on the side. I have to say this salad left me wanting more! It wasn't bad but just ok, everything was fresh but it could've used at least some more feta for sure! We also tried gyro with French fries it was good, meat was tasty and pita bread was soft. It comes with a little cup of tzatziki sauce but I could use probably one more since there's none on gyro. Overall this place has ok food and decent prices, if I come here again I'll try their pastas maybe that's gonna give me better impression! read more

Visited this restaurant many times over the years. Food is always good and tonight was no exception! Portions were very generous and the service (although they were very busy) was just right. Our table for 8 was set away from the main dining area so we were able to share conversation without too much distraction. The staff were very pleasant and helpful throughout the evening which made our dining experience even more enjoyable. We had a really pleasant experience at The Grapevine several weeks ago. I was happy with the complimentary homemade, warm bread rolls they brought to the table to start us off. All of our entrees were good, meatballs for the young boy, chicken tenders for the 3year old, and gyros for me and my husband. The gyros were packed to the brim and really flavorful. A good bang for your buck and definitely a satisfying dinner. We shared a lemon dessert with the table at the end and it was also nice. Refreshing and a good end to a wholesome meal. The carafe of house wine was also a good deal. We will most likely return to the grapevine as they had plenty for the family to enjoy and a really nice outdoor patio area which made dining with kids a little less stressful. We were in town visiting our parents and they suggested grapevine since we were craving Italian food. Boy am I glad they did! The restaurant is super cute with a Greek/Italian theme and cute string lights. We were immediately greeted by one of the managers who was very kind and seated us immediately. Our waitress was very attentive and efficient, and there was always someone at our table offering us bread and water refills before we even needed to ask ourselves. The service was wonderful, and our waitress was very personable. Additionally, we appreciated that check ins by the manager throughout the meal as well. We ordered the saganaki to start. It was flaming cheese that was perfectly cooked, and was great on the pita and their moist/fresh rolls! For our entrees we had the Aphrodite spaghetti, eggplant parm, and white pizza. The entrees came with salads, that were quite filling. I loved my upgraded Greek salad and almost wish I'd gotten it as a meal (until I tried the food itself!) The entrees were delicious, particularly the spaghetti and the pizza! My dad loved his eggplant! The food was very filling and they even split the spaghetti so that we could share. I have Celiac and was surprisingly able to order the crab stuffed salmon (I think it was a special, so not sure they will always have it). Usually anything with sauce/stuffed crab has gluten in it, but I was assured it was safe to eat by both the waitress and a nice man (maybe the owner or chef?) who stopped by several times to check on us (he even said his wife had Celiac). It turns out they were right as it's been several days now and I've not had a reaction. I had it over gluten free pasta instead of rice and it was some of the best GF pasta I've had; really the entire meal was delicious. You can tell this is not a place where they heat up frozen meals in a microwave. They also brought out a ball of dough for my toddler to mold into a shape, which they then placed inside of the oven and brought back out to us! Visiting the area for a night and was looking for a restaurant with a late closing time. Hubby found this gem and I'm so glad we chose it! The outer appearance is quite the understatement of what you'll find inside (although I enjoyed the 'art'!)! You're cheerfully welcomed by more than one person as you walk in, and the atmosphere feels clean, fresh despite the fact it's an older building. It was a busy evening being a weekend of holiday parties, but we were seated in less than 10 minutes. Everyone in the restaurant appeared happy and there was staff constantly moving and checking in on the guests, very attentive! My husband ordered the meat Lasagna and I, the Shrimp Sparta. Neither dish disappointed and the serving was very generous! The dish was hot, not lukewarm as if it was sitting on the counter waiting for pickup, but like it was immediately taken to us after the chef prepared it! I also had the tiramisu...oh my! I explained, told them I couldn't wait, and went to leave, and this lovely man -- the chef's son -- stopped me and told me that he would rush it. Ten minutes later, he delivered the hot meal to me. So Mimi and I decided to order takeout from a far westend staple @rva_grapevine. A favorite of my dear Granny's, she would love going there for lunch, so many great memories! The place looked the same as I remembered, classic Italian decor and set up. My go to was the chicken parm but we had a hankering for pizza tonight so we ordered the Grapevine combo (pepperoni, ham, Italian sausage, green pepper, onion and mushrooms). Mimi also wanted to try the Penne ala Vodka (their version included chicken and spinach). When I called the order in I was advised it would be about 45 mins so 45 mins later I arrived and I saw why the wait was that long, they were slammed packed! The staff was moving dishes quickly, the front area was tidy and definitely a favorite amongst the patrons. This must be the Friday night spot as every parking spot was filled (they offer valet to accommodate), every table was filled as well as the waiting area! My order wasn't quite ready but the staff was super nice and personable! I saw the owner working the floor and greeting the customers, he was always super nice! We live super close but the food wasn't piping hot as I assumed it would be but warmed it all up and we both rated the pizza ($17.95) about 3.8/5, loaded with toppings, crust was ok and sauce was authentic tasting. Mimi rated the penne($19.99) at a 3/5 as she stated the chicken was well seasoned but it was light in portion, noodles were cooked perfectly and the sauce was ok as it could have used a bit more flavor. Their side house with Grecian dressing (4/5) and their rolls weren't as good as I remembered but were good once warmed (3.5/5). Overall, great spot for Greek/Italian, total rating 3.5/5. I think for old times sake I'll go again for lunch like my Granny and I once did. read more
