This unassuming vegan spot was introduced to me via my vegan pal who formerly lived in Los Angeles. They have quite a large selection of items on their menu, along with a special selection of authentic Oaxacan dishes and baked goods. The food was pretty good and tasted pretty fresh. Our waitress was nice and the vibe is a bit divey for my taste but I would come back for a beer and some food. My friend ordered the breakfast burrito that looked quite tasty so I'll probably be back for brunch.

Our first time. Everything was great. Our son brought us lunch. He's vegan but we are not. The food was delicious. We will be back in to try other things. Our waitress was awesome . The music was great too. The place is decorated very beautifully too.

I've been to The Grain a few times, usually for breakfast, which is okay. This time, I just needed a vegan dessert, so I ordered their strawberry almond cake on Doordash. LET ME SAY THIS: If they upgrade the icing? This would be the BEST Strawberry cake I've ever had in my LIFE. The cake itself is so soft, flavorful, and sweet without being overly so. The icing is chalky and doesn't live up to how fantastic the cake is. I would absolutely love it if they swapped it out for vegan whipped cream and fresh strawberries. If you go to The Grain, GET THIS CAKE! ...just scrape the icing off.

One of my favorite vegan sandwiches in LA. This place is such a hidden gem. Friendly staff, ample parking in the lot, tons of indoor and outdoor seating, and best of all some of my favorite vegan food. A must visit when you're in mid city and craving something delicious :)

Wow what a variety of food...and all vegan not used to having so many options! Got to try vegan tuna and a club sandwich for fhe first time thanks to the vegan versions! The hot sauce fhey offered was really good too. The roll was a huge serving...we all shared it. The sandwich came with potatoes so it was really filling, just a little dry. Our server didn't speak great English but was really nice and service was quick. Parking lot is tiny but there is street parking nearby.

Chilaquiles & triple cheese crepe was sooo amazing with lots of flavor! Love the price point and quality of food. There's everything here for pizza, sandwich to authentic Mexican food lovers. We even had some guests requesting food without garlic or onion and they were able to accommodate

The food was just so so. The romaine lettuce in the salad wasn't as fresh as I would have liked. The strawberry margarita was ok but I didn't taste any alcohol. The service was not that great as the waitress was occupied talking to a guest food 15 minutes while 3 tables were trying to check out. Overall, I love this vegan spot but the quality seems to be decreasing. The ambiance was great! Clean and not soft if patron however there seemed to be a drunk guy asleep at the bar! Yikes

Really delicious with high quality ingredients. Friendly service. Surprising to see and know that it's entirely vegan here. Had the breakfast burrito and it was really tasty! With their homemade hot sauce--yum! Low lighting inside for early morning, recommend a little more lighting for mornings and can be dimmed at night--just a suggestion. It was a little dark at 6:45-7:00 in the morning when folks need to wake up haha. Overall, really enjoyed it and food was really good. Looking forward to try more other options. Also had the cappuccino Italiano which wasn't great but okay. Everything tasted fresh and it was a really good vegan burrito with good protein! Love that they're conscious of their food and ingredients. Even the ketchup had minimal ingredients as it should. Food should be whole and simple, and this place does a great job of following that. Gracias and well done!

We've been here before, but it has been a while since we last tried the food here. My wife got the Sautéed Kale with tempeh and a veggie pizza. She liked the kale stir fry, but there was a spice in the tempeh that she wasn't fond of. The veggie pizza was good, but a bit too much cheese. I got the Chicken Fajitas. They were very tasty. The rice and beans were good too, and more than I could eat. (FYI: The number one item according to the waiter was the Club Sandwich.) For dessert we split a carrot cake. All in all an enjoyable meal.

The food and coffee hit the spot. I was wanting breakfast for lunch and it's perfect that it is served all day here. A fully plant based eatery with so many amazing choices. The service was great! My server was so attentive and sweet. The food was delicious. I can't wait to go back and try more of the menu.

Every time when we leaving LA area this is our must have place for a breakfast before we hit the road. The food is always delicious and fresh. Service is outstanding. The only "disappointment " for me is that's every time we are here I m trying to buy their tshirt that says " friends not food" but it's always sold out. I really want that shirt. Definitely recommend this please Double cheese crepe is my favorite.

Delicious food in a very fun atmosphere. Bf and I both got vegan burritos for that fully satisfied feeling. They carry beer and I had a delicious virgin michelada. Yum. Service was on point.

My friend and I walk in at 6 pm on a Monday evening and are the only people in the restaurant. I ordered the chicken mole burrito. It was tasteless which made it hard to eat. My friend ordered the lentil soup and club sandwich. The waitress disappeared after she delivered our food. The service was non existent for the next 90 minutes until I finally saw the waitress and asked for the bill. She was sweet but it took another 15 minutes to get the bill. I hate to trash a restaurant. It's people's livelihoods. But. There's no one eating at Grain Cafe and the food isn't good. My friend said, "I hope your mole burrito was good, I did notice you left some. I ate mine but it wasn't particularly noteworthy or tasty. If I had the chance to choose that vegan place or trying another, I'd choose another." The food and service need a lot of improvement.

While I am not at all vegan, it can be a fantastic change of pace when trying a cuisine that is not at all my regular routine. Happily, Variable has tons of choices, and we loved what we got. I was drawn towards the 'N Seoul Bowl' (Korean spicy plant based pork, house marinated Kimchi, organic edamame, steamed organic spinach, carrot, steamed broccoli, onion , organic shiitake, topped with green onion and sesame seeds and side organic quinoa). So good, a bit spicy, and so many flavors on the plate it was impossible to not only love it, but I could not finish it, either. That goes from all their dishes. They are big, and in our experience, it came out piping hot soon after ordering it. My companion tried the 'Indian Tikka Masala' (homemade Indian curry, broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini, yellow squash, potatoes, cabbage, chickpea, micro green, Served with blend wild Jasmin rice and Indian Flat Bread). Tastes so fresh, hearty, with just enough of a kick to it. I look forward to trying some of their other dishes, too. The burger that the table near us ordered looked fantastic. I gotta think that everything here is pretty dang great.

Our server was nice at first but throughout our time there she became increasingly condescending and rude. We started with the calamari, squash blossoms, and watermelon salad. The calamari was good. The watermelon salad was delicious but could have used double the feta and pistachios. The squash blossoms were so small and dry. The "cheese" inside was hard and tasted sour. We used to get them all the time and the recipe is definitely different. One in our group ordered a beer when we sat down at didn't come until midway through the appetizers. When we asked our server for it, she just said it was coming. For our entrees we got the meatball pizza, spicy rigatoni with chicken Parmesan, eggplant short rib, and bolognese. The meatball pizza was fine but not good enough to want to finish. The two pastas were the best but not that much flavor. The eggplant short rib was inedible. They basically just peel an eggplant and slap a giant slab on a bowl of mashed potatoes. It was so dense and chewy and slimy. We couldn't swallow it. We also ordered the truffle potatoes at the start of our meal and they didn't come out until we were finished with our entrees. When I informed our server, she simply gave me attitude and said to wait because they take longer to cook. At that point we didn't bother bringing up the eggplant dish because we knew we'd be dismissed again. We were very disappointed in the quality of food and the service. They only have a hose A/C in the corner that didn't do much to cool the place down. The food though was amazing! As 2 vegetarians and 1 vegan, we had never seen such an extensive plant based option with not only vegan cheeses but meat substitutes with protein! No wonder they have been ranked #1 for multiple years. The starter bread came in a brown bag and was soft and delicious, especially with the house pesto. You could really taste the basil but it didnt feel too oily. We got the calamari because none of us have ever seen a vegan one on a menu! It was breaded and fried and had a squishy center made of pea protein that I guess simulates the real one? It came with a marinara dipping sauce. I could obly have a few because they were fried and I felt like they were a bit too salty Next the pastas came out - the Pistachio pesto and the fusili with sausage. Both were delicious. The pesto sauce was the same one we had with the bread but the pasta had Pistachio chunks in it as well and generous amounts of pesto. The sausage was chewy and the sauce must've had either the same seasoning or chunks of it blended in because you could taste the same flavor in that as well! We had hopes of trying dessert but these 3 dishes were a perfect size for our party and we had been starving ourselves for most of the day for this (probably due to all the protein included in a usually carb only meal). The chicken stays crispy for a long time and reheats nicely as leftovers. Everything we've ordered is really good and crave-worthy. We got the lucky catsu, curry catsu, crispy shrimp, spam masubi, catsu masubi, orange chicken, crispy chicken. Top two favorites are lucky and curry catsu. Small things I'd personally wish to change is that the onion is too strong in the macaroni salad. Wish it wasn't in there period. And the rice is a little on the dryer side and it sticks to the container- so when you scrape up the last bits of rice, you could be eating the paper from the container. I like that they use compostable containers though!! But yeah the rice is on the harder side especially as leftovers. But whatever, their main items are bomb and makes me not care about anything else. Service is quick! Note: it is not a sit down restaurant. You order (ahead) and park on the street and call them to let them know you're outside. They'll bring the food out. Reception isn't great outside fyi. I've been here 3 times and never last long enough to get a photo before digging in. There are two other vegan restaurants right next to it, same concept - order and pick up. Great for different options if one is craving Mexican from Cena or hot dogs from All franks.

To be very honest, I love this place so much. I am currently sad because they are not open. I've…read morebeen looking every day to see when they will open back up from the macaroni to the spam. Anything that you get here is good.

The cafe itself is beautiful and cozy, and the whole team was incredibly kind. Our server honestly made the experience even better. He was so friendly and genuinely excited about the menu, took the time to explain everything, and gave us great recommendations based on what we were in the mood for. You could tell he really cared about making people have a good experience. The food and coffee were amazing, super flavorful and satisfying without feeling too heavy. It ended up being one of our favorite stops during our trip. Huge thank you to everyone there for making our day so special.

Everything was spotless, calm, and full of genuinely lovely people. The service was so warm I briefly considered asking if I could move in. I ordered a latte, the Caesar tempeh wrap, and a bowl -- and somehow every single bite tasted like it had been blessed by woodland fairies with culinary degrees. Flavor? Absolutely out of this world. But the BEST part? The names of the dishes. "I Am Well," "I Am Grateful," "I Am Light"... and when your server brings your food they lovingly announce: "You are well." Honestly, being affirmed by a stranger while handed organic vegan food healed at least 37% of my problems. I came for lunch and accidentally left spiritually moisturized. If you want delicious fully vegan organic food, positive vibes, and the experience of being gently complimented by your salad, this place is IT.

The cashier was super patient and helpful which I appreciate a ton! The location is on the corner of a lil strip of businesses so a few parking spots which makes a difference. Inside was a small setup but again super cute Here's what we got: 1. The Smokey (10/10) - it's banging! I really wanted to try it specifically because the onion-jalapeño jam got me stuck... and it did not disappoint! 2. The brisket breakfast burrito (9/10) - I asked them to cut both in half since I was gonna share with someone in the streets haha I love burritos, I love vegan breakfast burritos so nom nom nom! 3. Speculoos brownie (10/10) - it's super El Niño so the brownie was hot and ready by the time I landed so it was gooey and delish af I will definitely be back when I can push out to HP to grab refrigerated meets and cheezes! Please come support a vegan business!!

Whether you're vegan (like me), vegetarian or flex (like a lot of the world) this is a spot you should definitely try at least once or at least thrice. Impressive sides, soups, salads, sandwiches (both hot and cold), "meats" and "cheeses"... Not to mention desserts and breakfast items. Love the French Toast!! But that Reuben is a 10/10 and my guilty pleasure. And the meats are plant-based, loaded with flavor and true culinary flare. Maciel herself as well as this eatery combines passions for cuisine, health, nutrition and care all in one in this often thriving vegan-friendly area in Greater Los Angeles. Catch them also at big gathering such as the annual Vegan Street Fair in North Hollywood, Coachella Music and Arts Festival, and Open daily from 8:30 am to 8:30 pm, closed on Mondays. Some parking in their lot, but street recommend if the lot is full on the corner of Aldama St/York Blvd. Gender-neutral restrooms. And open to all.
