Damage done to my dresser by the movers

The good: Movers showed up on time and helped move the heavy items I needed. The so so: One of the movers had a heavy smell of cigarettes to him. Both places smelled pretty bad and had to be aired out. Communication was poor I had to reach out to confirm the times, then I received an email request asking for specifics about the move. The movers seemed to work intentionally slow. It took 3 hour 40 minutes to load one 17 foot uhaul. I myself filled that same uhaul 3 more times in half the time. The bad: I let the movers go without inspecting everything. After they left I noticed a leg broken on an antique mid century modern credenza, a 4 inch chip on a 1800s dresser, and damage to a headboard. As soon as I noticed the damage I contacted the owner via email. He acknowledged the email and said he would call me the following day. No call, so I sent three more emails, no response. I wanted a written record of me trying to contact the owner. Overall I was not happy with the move and did not appreciate the damage to the furniture. I am currently getting a quote for furniture repair.

Damage. Wasn't wrapped, placed on side with no padding below, and shoved in corner.

We received a list of recommended movers from U Haul. We unfortunately couldn't remember the name of the prior moving company we used last time, so we hired The Good Guy Moving Co since they had good reviews. BIG MISTAKE. If you're looking for labors to simply move items from point A to point B this is your company. If you're expecting to work with individuals who know how to wrap, move, tie down, and not damage your items this is not the moving company for you. Two individuals showed up at our door. They were friendly, greeted with firm handshakes, however smelled like pot. Not a deal breaker, but not professional. We did a walk thru on what furniture went in storage pod vs moving truck. I also had written out on a piece of paper which item went where. I showed them the e Straps to use to tie the items down in the storage pod. They began moving a couple of items out of the first room and it seemed like they spent 30 minutes in the truck. I don't know if they were trying to figure out where to put everything or were just slow on the task. We continued doing our work on helping move boxes, and organize areas to make sure it went in the correct location. The email exchange with the company said that three hours would be plenty of time to load up what we had and unload at new location. WRONG. They spent almost the full three hours just loading. They also loaded the incorrect mattress and box springs. Once they finally had 90% of our belongings (heavier items) we decided to go to the address of the correct location. There was a hang up and we couldn't get into the location, so they began moving items up the three story stairs. This was great, however majority of the furniture wasn't wrapped. We could hear words being exchanged when they made a boo boo, and could hear dings against the stair railing. One of the leather chairs has scratch marks on it, since it was moved up the stairs without it wrapped. We ended up paying them two hours over, and I provided them lunch. It was 95 degrees outside and they were working continuously. When I returned to the storage unit I was pretty upset. The stacking and packing of items was horrible. Nothing... NOTHING was tied down. The mirrors and breakables were sat next to items, not in between mattresses, which is what most movers do. I had to take a day off of work, and return there with help to unpack the pod, and repack and securely tie all of my items. When I took out my dresser I was furious. 1. They didn't wrap it. *I had purchased wrap and they even brought their own. 2. They sat it on it's side with nothing underneath it. 3. They shoved it in a corner and it got damaged. My help and I repacked it for two hours. Overall, I am so upset with the amount of money we paid, including the two hours over, and damage made to the furniture. I hope once I unpack the storage pod that I don't find more damage. If you want to have a hassle stress free move, with people who know how to move, and aren't just labors, skip this business and move on to the next. Good: They did work continuously, they were courteous, and they were strong. Bad: They weren't fast, efficient, didn't know how to secure items for long term moving and storage. They did not wrap important items for moving.

Looks like I'll have to file in small claims court. Devon is claiming that they didn't damage our bed. Pretty ridiculous.

That typically means I would be charged more but Devon said since it wasn't my fault he would waive the fee.

So I knew no matter how long the move took and with the long distances, I already knew how much the max cost would be up front with no surprises. And they also offer a discount based on the way you paid them. WINNING! And so, I didn't use Pure Moving just once, but three times this month. The first time, I had to move from Union City to a storage facility in Elk Grove and this past weekend we had two teams going, one from San Jose to Elk Grove and the other from the storage facility to our new home. Pure Moving was perfect in all ways possible. They were professional, prompt, efficient, and super friendly. They handled and wrapped items with care and made you feel at ease that everything was going to be safe and secure. They disassembled furniture as needed and reassembled it on site. One great detail, they laid down plastic protectors everywhere to keep things clean and tidy where they would be stepping. And cleaned up all the plastic wrap/coverings, cardboard and tape they used while packing and unpacking. They literally took care of all the heavy - and even the light - lifting! I just want to say thank you to Paul, Nick, Toha, Dan and Symon for taking care of our move and my Family. Moving is already stressful but they made it Pure-ly AWESOME!

This was for a one-way move from the Bay Area to Nevada, about a 4+ hour drive. Cost: reasonable and better than some other companies which wanted much much more. Fixed price based on what I described we had to move. I conferred w Nancy via phone, text, email. 4% fee if credit card is used. $200 deposit, can pay by cash/check/Venmo or Zelle. I used a cash app. There's no written contract. Moving day: Last month: movers Bao & Deng, don't speak English but seemed to understand us. Owner/supervisor Nancy came to out house to see, a surprise! Their moving truck was clean. Moved items from house and storage facility. They padded and plastic wrapped bigger items like sofa, dresser, desk, etc. They are efficient and know their stuff - what would've taken me and my family 3-4 hours to move they finished in 30 minutes! Nothing broken, nothing damaged. Payment: $200 cash tip each. $2,100 final payment via Cash App. Reliable, efficient movers, would use them again!

Scheduling was easy. The surveyor came out to our property the very next day to set up our move. During the move, the driver hit and disconnected a cable line at our origin, knocking out service and creating additional stress while I was managing work on the backend. Accidents happen, but it set the tone. More concerning was how the bed itself was handled. The movers arrived without tools and used ours to disassemble it. When they reassembled the bed, they failed to properly tighten the screws, and one of the four critical support pieces that hold the bed frame together was missing entirely. I didn't discover this until a few weeks later, when the bed nearly collapsed. I have a baby and a dog at home, and the situation could have ended very badly. If a part was lost or damaged, we would have appreciated transparency. Instead, we were left with an unsafe setup and no communication. We tipped 20% at the time, assuming the job had been done properly, which makes the situation even more disappointing. I reached out to the company afterward and never received a response. Terrible...

Additional there is a min 30 min travel time charge which would be an additional $65 for this move. Not using them! This also appears to be illegal in California "Unfair Competition Law (UCL): Charging for a service not rendered (like fuel not used) can be argued as "unfair or deceptive" under California Business and Professions Code § 17200, especially if the surcharge is used as a hidden profit center rather than a cost recovery tool." Below is a reply and here is my response: The information about the fuel fee was presented to be based on a percentage of the total move time. Not your actual cost, which I would have been okay with. I'm not asking for anything to be waived, just transparency. Your remarks about your family are completely out of line. It's clear you want to change the subject from your questionable practice and make this personal. It is not personal. I don't know you other than how you have presented your business here.
