This place was ok I guess. Took a ride there With my mother after my grandmother had said she had stopped in there the previous week and that their muffins were huge and looked delicious,so being only 9 miles away we took the quick ride on a rainy Wednesday afternoon. My mother and I and my 6 year old son. I barely Got in the door and the girl behind the counter Immediately kinda shouted what can I get you ? I had no idea I hadn't even gotten to look at the case yet I immediately felt rushed so anyways the muffins are in the case but they're not labeled what flavors they are and the girl behind the counter seemed annoyed that I had to ask her what the flavors were and how much it was for half dozen and what not. They also sell some little delicate trinket like things keychains or Christmas ornaments whatever they are my son was over looking at them didn't even touch them my mom was over there with him as well by the way and the girl behind the counter again had to make a comment for my son to be careful in a rude manner. So we stepped away from the display. Hey maybe I would have purchased something had she not made her comment. I bought a honey bran muffin. Incredibly light, more cake than muffin, and nothing like a bran muffin. Very little bran or whole gran flavor, no density at all. I don't get the sense that there is much variation in their skill set: go here for dessert, not breakfast. I assume they do sweet, light "muffins" (more like cupcakes) all around. Unfortunately, the muffin I got was also undercooked, slightly raw in the middle, and therefore inedible. Lack of signs telling customers what flavor the muffins were is also slightly annoying and lazy. It's uncomfortable to ask for more than a couple choices and feel like you are being polite to other customers. Very polite and nice service, however. read more

This weekend was righteous for me. I not only found my favorite pizza(sweet tomatoes) and Ice Cream(JP Licks), but I found the most amazing muffin place in dare I say it the WORLD! This place is soo good it should be illegal. I think the price is right as well. This place is famous for their "muffins", but first lets get one thing straight. They are not muffins, but really cupcakes. Ok, now that we have a clear conscience let me tell you that these cupcakes are really awesome. Probably the best I have ever had. I like almost all of them, but my favorite are the Gingerbread ones. Was there this past weekend as I was in the area and the only regret is that I did not get more of the cupcakes. These used to be our favorite muffins and they still taste good but they seem to have shrank over the past year. Very disappointing that they are doing what all the corporate companies are doing with packaged food products, making them smaller and smaller each year. The best breakfast stop north of the city. The people were very friendly and more importantly the muffins were awesome. I would suggest the Gingerbread Muffin but the Boston Creme runs a close second. It was so good, I stopped on my out of town to get some treats to bring home to my family. I eat-in area was clean and there was parking right out front. My trip up to Boston will def include a run to exit 40 for more muffins and coffee. read more

I had my first GCC muffin two months ago when my company ordered over 400 muffins for the staff. I was shocked at how big the muffins were. I had the carrot cake muffin with cream cheese frosting and it was so good. My boyfriend was sick of hearing me rave about the muffins so we went to the Wakefield store yesterday. We were were only going to order one each, and then take 2 home for my sister and her husband. Well when we stepped inside, that idea was abandoned. I ordered the chocolate dream - SO light and moist and flavorful. Hands down the best one they sell. My boyfriend got the carrot muffin b/c I raved about it and we split the coffeecake muffin. It was good, but my least favorite. I think think the filled muffins are definitely the way to go. We got my sister the chocolate raspberry and a chocolate chip and we took home a banana creme and gingerbread for ourselves. I ate the banana muffin, filled with fresh bananas and a banana cream before dinner and the gingerbread after dinner for dessert. I was obsessed. These things are SO good and well worth the drive. The non-filled muffins are more traditional, but if you make the drive out there, you'll want the filled cupcake-esque ones. And I know a lot of reviewers think the muffins are expensive but at $1.85 for a huge muffin, I find it really inexpensive actually. You'd pay more than that for something half the size elsewhere. read more

I have visited The Gingerbread Construction Company over the past few years when I needed muffins for the office or a special occasion such as a brunch. It has been about 5 years since I last visited, and now I have picked up another naughty habit. ;) I just finished writing a review of my trip to The Farmland a mile or so down Main Street in Wakefield, and happened to stop at The Gingerbread Construction Company on my way back to 128 to head home. This place is still amazing. First off, if you're looking to pick up a quick gift, particularly for a kid they have a wonderful selection of Russ items and other cool stuffed animals. I had to control myself as I almost bought my niece and nephew cute baskets with puppies and kitties in them for Valentine's Day-maybe I'll go back and get them next week. Oh the muffins! The other dozens of reviews describe them, no need for me to rehash the variety and flavors. But I did want to mention that they carry one of my favorite teas as well as a variety of fresh baked coffee cakes. I heard a lady request that her banana bread be sliced and I noticed they had pumpkin bread with cream cheese frosting. It took all my willpower not to buy one of those! They even had Valentine's Gingerbread Houses and Valentine cookies. I stopped in to get a cup of tea, and left with a half dozen of wonderful warm cookies (all with different types of chocolate) and a marble pound cake that I will slice up and freeze for future treats. If I make The Gingerbread Construction Company a new Saturday ritual along with my weekly trip to The Farmland I will never lose those last 20 pounds in 2010! Yum yum. ;) read more

These muffins are dynamite. They are moist, tasty, and look absolutely divine under the fluorescent glow of the pastry case lighting. Perfect for breakfast, snack, and those delicious cream-filled ones make one heck of a dessert. I often stop here on the way out to visit my family to pick up a 1/2 dozen and they drool everytime I bring them to the door. My personal favorite is the carrot cake. It's got vegetables so it's healthy, right? I've never not seen this place busy, but the people working the counter are speedy and efficient. Couple of drawbacks to this place preventing me from issuing five stars: 1) Expensive! Six muffins ran me $11 the other morning. But the quality of the product is worth it. 2) Super small parking lot. I stopped here Mother's Day morning and had to wait at the gas station next door for a spot to open up. I think I actually stole some other woman's spot that she was waiting for. If you're reading this, sorry! 3) The shop is very small, so no matter where you stand you are in someone's way. read more

I have to be honest, the first dozen or so times I drove by the Gingerbread Construction Co, I thought it was just a mail-order (or walk in) place that created gingerbread house and the like. Finally, instead of going to the Honey Dew, I banged a U-turn and pulled into their parking lot. Wow! I was very surprised, and loved the whole atmosphere of the store. There are lots, and lots of goodies to choose from. My one complaint was the peaches-n-cream muffin that was on the board wasn't available yet. Oh well, that's a minor thing to moan about. Don't stare too long at their delicious wares or you will come away with a lot more calories than you thought possible. I ended up getting a coffee cake muffin and an Irish creme coffee. Both were delicious. The service was great. For a place that had a lot of customers, they got to everyone and got their orders out very fast. You got the feeling that they're used to dealing with tons of customers clamoring for muffins and coffee. The prices were great. Just over $4 for 2 muffins and the coffee. You can't beat that. Don't be fooled like I was- stop in and give this place a try! (And, I bet you can buy a gingerbread creation!) read more

High quality baked goods near the Wakefield rotary. A great place to stop after a walk at Lake Quannapowett. Also good for picking up something to take to an office breakfast or a party. The huge "muffin" things are really cupcakes, and mostly are frosted. The gingerbread is excellent (I get it without the frosting), and the Boston Creme and Blueberry are also highly recommended. I like that they don't coat the tops with sugar. They also sell coffee and cookies and loaves. The shop is pretty tiny, but they do manage to cram in a few gift items and seasonal things like Christmas ornaments for sale as well. Service is businesslike and brisk. read more

Incredibly helpful and friendly staff. Over-the-top attentive and no doubt they are there to help you with your selection. We got a few cookies and a muffin. The cookies were phenomenal, and I've had better muffins; it was a bit dry and didn't leave as a great an impression with me as did the cookies. I went here on Saturday and got a pumpkin muffin with cream cheese frosting. It was delicious. My one and only criticism of the muffin was that the frosting had a bit of a sugar graininess to it, but that did not stop me from eating the whole thing. The interior of the muffin was moist and a perfect mix of dense and airy and chock full of juicy raisins. The top was crispy and delicious. I also tried my friend's classic gingerbread muffin and it was delicious as well. The staff was super friendly and awesome! read more

Very consistent & super friendly staff...and...trust me...I've been here way too many times so if there was going to be a bad experience it would have happened at some point!! The delicious gingerbread muffins & loaves are second to none!!! Other muffins are yum yum yummy too but if I ever buy anything but gingerbread the kids (and husband) start fighting over who can swallow the gingerbread muffin whole first...ok I may be exaggerating a little but I now only buy the gingerbread muffins/loaves...they ROCK! The muffins here are insane. I mean literally, they should be locked up and strapped into a straight jacket, confined to a white room with me and a giant glass of milk. I've tried a variety of them and they are all delicious. Gingerbread cookies are really good and surprisingly their chocolate chip cookies are really, really good. In fact, the last few times there I just got a few chocolate chip cookies and I was in heaven. I haven't gotten a gingerbread house or anything crazy like that yet. Maybe if they made a life-size one I would be more interested. Grab a snack and a coffee, park your car up at the lake and enjoy. Oh, they close fairly early I believe. Maybe around 6pm or so.
