This review is for the cake. This is the cake I've been looking for. Their buttercream is Italian buttercream, so it's less sweet. I'm a cake fanatic. To me, the best buttercream should taste like ice cream. This most certainly made the cut. We ordered a cookies n crème buttercream and it was scrumptious. You can taste the little bits of Oreos. We also had the strawberry buttercream which was amazing since they used strawberry purée. The cake itself was moist and soft. The only complaint I had was the cake to buttercream ratio was a little heavy on the buttercream ends. Since I love buttercream, I had no issue. But, the husband prefers a cake with more cake. read more

Josie's Bakery is just what Wilmington needed! Everything here is fantastic, and I keep returning. I ordered a 6 inch custom cake, which turned out beautifully, and was reasonably priced. The ingredients used are quality ingredients. And the buttercream on the cake is to die for. I've also dropped in to pick up various cupcakes and treats for gatherings. Their cupcakes are as pretty as they look. My husband loves their brownies, and I'm a big fan of the lemon squares. I always forget they're closed on Monday, and that's tripped me up a few times. The best thing to happen to Wilmington EVER. Everything I've tried here has been to die for. Cookies. Muffins. Yummy. As if that weren't enough, their cakes are works of art. My best friend came here to get me a birthday cake. But not any old cake. Nope. She asked them to make a cake resembling an icon of autocross (an amateur Motorsport where you drive your car around traffic cones as quickly as possible without hitting the cones, usually done in a parking lot). They did an amazing job for my sister's baby shower. They were very quick to respond to my email and really outdid themselves with matching our theme of a fiesta party. They made cupcakes decorated with "nachos and cheese", "guac", and "tacos" and everyone at the party were very impressed! read more

Stopped today around 10:30 to get cinnamon rolls and some other treats. Tried to ask the 2 young ladies behind the counter for suggestion "something chocolaty" and they threw a chocolate pizzelle in a bag and went back to gossiping. I was thinking brownie or something like that but ok, I don't want to interrupt. The cinnamon rolls were ok... raw in the middle and seemingly small, but the cooked parts were tasty. The lemon bar was dry and seemed like yesterdays baking afterthoughts. The pecan bar was good... drizzled with chocolate. The cinnamon rolls were reviewed on Phantom Gourmet. I really enjoy this bakery. My favorite thing about this place is how they do chocolate items. Their red velvet cheese cake brownies and regular brownies are fantastic. I visit when ever I am in the area and take these where ever I can. They are also well known for their cinnamon buns, but the brownies and mocha crinkle cookies take the cake, the just do coco right. I would recommend stopping in if you get a chance. They are very friendly. They have breads, cakes, cookies and all sorts of other treats. read more

After reaching out to the bakery with an absence of response, I'd figured I should write a review instead. The cake was nothing that I had asked for, down to the look, theme, writing, and material.The cake looked like an exact replica of a previous cake which I stated was not what I wanted. The cost of $167 to receive nothing close to my order is just really disappointing. I also supplied the figurines, leaving the cake to look like two frosted cakes stacked. I just had to let others know after no response from Josies how awful the cake did not meet my expectations and the disappointment of an $167 cost. The customer service in ordering the cake was also atrocious, as I waited an hour, as customers were coming in and I was consistently left for them to be serviced. I'd recommend going elsewhere. read more

Visited for the first time a few weeks ago when I stopped in on a Saturday mid morning to pick up pastries for a family party. Maybe I should have called ahead because the selection of pastries was really not that diverse/large. I need a couple boxes of pastries or cookies-- not outrageous, not a huge quantity. However, there was was not a lot to choose from. It seems like more of a cake place, order ahead type of place. We've been regular customers since Josie's opened. In addition to random cookie purchases, we've ordered several custom cakes that my wife worked closely with the staff to customize. I think two are now in the store's cake book. I've also ordered two gluten-free cakes. Overall we've had great experiences. The most recent cake for my mother-in-law's birthday (that included real flowers) prompted my mother-in-law to declare "that's the most beautiful cake I have ever seen". I think their prices are fair and I think they continue to deliver ever more sophisticated cake designs. If I had one gripe it would be that there is one employee that I find "abrupt". I suspect that another reviewer that had a negative experience probably had that employee assist them, I don't think her comment is inappropriate but I don't think it's a proper reflection of the rest of the team... read more
