So, full disclosure. I really, really had to find a bathroom on the way to my destination in Tewksbury. I got onto Main Street and thought there would be a Dunkin's, but nope. So I saw Donna's Donuts and immediately pulled in as I figured, what the heck, I will buy a donut and then use the bathroom. OHMYGOD, the donuts, the muffins, the everything else there! I ordered a chocolate muffin and a glazed donut, and yes, I used the bathroom. I then got in my car and took out the glazed donut. The thing was like a double donut, melted in my mouth. And the chocolate muffin that I just ate now. I am in muffin Heaven. I will, from now on, on my way to my Tewksbury destination, stop in at Donna's Donuts. After an event at NDB Fitness, I decided to swing by Donna's Donuts for a simple breakfast to hold me over for a bit. So yeah, I ended with 2 muffins, 2 donuts and 1 GIANT donut with sprinkles. I stood in line too long with my friends and knew I wanted that giant donut. Took me a few days, but man, it was delicious and worth every bite! Donna's retro donut shop but it's got new age prices. Mismatched tables, built in 70's table/chairs out front. Nothing has been updated in a long time. I love it! Teenagers working the Saturday morning shift. Working hard. They got me in and out quickly and I ordered 2 breakfast sandwiches. The melted cheese was the win here but I am guessing it was microwaved bacon (not my favorite.) The croissant was a perfect match. My husband got his on a jalapeno cheddar bagel. How was this my first time here?! I gave my nephew a coupon book for Christmas, our January activity was "donuts and hot cocoa." I asked a friend to recommend a place and she emphatically said DONNAS DONUT! First, huge parking lot! Which is perfect! Second, the people behind the counter...AMAZING! They were so kind! We went in wanting strawberry frosted donuts and honestly I dont even know if that was an option...the second we saw the giant donut...we knew it would be ours! Talk about delicious! Today I stopped in with the kiddos for some tasty donuts. We do this maybe once a month. I came in around noon and they still had my favorite donut options available. They must have been busy because their shelfs were partially emptied out. I was able to get my hands on the chocolate glazed donut, graham cracker donut, and a cinnamon donut (not in my pictures as it was already gone!). The donuts are flavorful, crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside. My absolute favorite is the graham cracker. The prices are low, the staff members are sweet, and the donuts are too good. Inside is cute with a bunch of seating options, in the case that you can't wait until your car to devour your goodies. They have a drive-thru option and additional parking to the right of their shop, which I needed to use today since people are catching on to this hidden gem. The service was poor. I just spent 12 minutes waiting in the drive thru behind one car! It was not worth the wait.

These donuts are big, full of flavor and often heavy, the way donuts used to be. Unlike that other double-D, the dreaded chain whose catch phrase was "Time to make the donuts" but now means "Time to unload the already-old factory made donuts from the truck," Donna's Donuts cuts and cooks their donuts by hand, on site, in small batches. This ensures fresh product throughout the day and hot product if you're lucky enough to time it right. Honey Dipped: Giant but light, with a bouncy texture that'll stay bouncy and fresh for a couple days, but try to get 'em while they're hot, which is a near guarantee first thing in the morning and a decent possibility (more likely than anywhere else) later in the morning. The coating tends to be melty early on and flaky later on, with a strong sugar component. Raised frosted: Yeast donuts similar to the honey dipped, but with a ring of chocolate instead of the glaze. First thing in the morning that coating is wet and hot (which gets ME wet and hot, but that's another story for another website). Nothing special about the chocolate here other than the freshness. Boston Creme: Another yeast donut with a generous filling of thick, loose vanilla pudding and an equally generous coating of chocolate outside. Another one to get early when it's still wet and a little wobbly. Apple: The unsung hero among the Donna's roster, this is a square donut with chunky, sweet/tart apple filling that tastes a little like a McDonald's apple pie, but has the feel of the soft honey dipped. They come out a little later in the morning than the honey dipped, so this is a smart move. Plain: Donna's is old school, but sometimes you gotta go REALLY old school, and their plain donut does that nicely. This crispy crust with a fluffy interior and a pleasing taste without as much aftertaste as most donuts of this kind. I'm a fan of Donna's, but I'm not gonna lie: their toppings won't match the artisanal donut shops like Union Square and SOME others that are popping up. But the flavor of the underlying donut is second to none (and Union Square's Achilles heel is the underlying donut). Throw in superior execution and a mostly-friendly staff (a few of the weekday folk are an acquired taste), and you've got an easy five-star donut joint and my favorite in greater Boston. These are donuts the way they used to be and the way all donuts ought to be now, so get over there for a take-me-back experience. If you get there early you might just have a religious experience. read more

Highly recommended by a local we were glad to make the half hour drive to a crowded 10-15 minute wait but worth it! Good drive through and plenty of parking in lot next door. Pros: -Inexpensive -Great service -Dough is super soft/fresh -Apparently they sometimes have Boston Cream donut holes (per the staff person who helped us), which is pretty cool! Cons: -Crowded on weekends -Counter is a little confusing--there's one register on the right and pickup is on the left. We waited a bit on the left thinking those people were in line before realizing. -Glaze is on the sweet side -- $3.36 for 1 donut and 4 donut holes Honey Dip Donut Hole Yeast glazed donut. Very fresh, though glaze is slightly too sweet. Chocolate Honey Dip Donut Hole Chocolate cake donut hole coated in glaze. This was still warm! My sister brought me a variety of donuts and I am fairly confident I have now had the best donuts on earth. I've so far sampled the chocolate glazed donut, the chocolate covered, and the jelly stick. Let's talk about freshness. The donuts made a couple hour journey, sat in the car while we took in a hockey game, and still tasted like they were baked in the trunk. Now, about the quality. The chocolate on the donut tasted delicious; flavorful without dominating, the texture was smooth, and it sat on a perfectly fluffy raiser donut. The filling of the jelly stick was also perfectly textured, and it was appropriately the star of the show, but the cake donut around it was perfectly crispy on the outside with an amazingly soft inside. The chocolate cake donut was moist, and broke apart easy enough without being crumbly and falling apart in your hands. The donuts were all also giant in size (there are some National brands that could take some notes, as theirs are embarrassingly small by comparison). While I could've been satisfied by half or a quarter at a time, I've been unable to stop at just that point. So their numbers are dwindling in the box at an alarming rate. Hats off.
