The Farmland market in Wakefield has everything you need just about anywhere the fruit and vegetables are fresh and delicious blueberries strawberries watermelon and oranges bananas and apples vegetables are also very healthy and good the store carries other foods as well. Breads eggs bacon cold cuts and milk and other drinks you can get steaks pork chops and chicken breast and wings Italian food sauce and spaghettis and other items they have soup and premade meals ready to eat but they have a great deli you can get hot subs and cold subs I got a large Roast beef with cheese and other fixings let me tell you it was the best I have nice and tasty delicious with the juices and the meatball sub is pretty good as well the Italian is huge chicken Parmesan everything. Then you can head over to the bakery and get yourself some of your favorite sweets the service is excellent. The ambience is very friendly good place for shopping. read more

There are several things I love about this store. Their produce is great. Good selections of salads, pastas and some cold deli. Everything I buy tastes good. This place has expensive non-perishable goods, but I found some fruits are cheaper than other stores, like apples and watermelon. Really disappointed in their quality of food lately. We have been going to the Farmland for over 20 years and we never had an issue with the food. But we do now. What I have experienced recently is their salads contain old brown lettuce and old tomatoes. Definitely not fresh. They used to have the freshest salads of anywhere around. They are also half the size they used to be. I would rather they keep their salads fresh but charge more money if necessary. Over the past dozen years since moving here I've come to Farmland for bakery items, deli items, and occasional produce. I have noticed over the past year they've been on a downward spiral, and this weekend will definitely be my last visit. On Saturday, July 6, late afternoon, I went in and purchased a pound of cole slaw, a pound of orzo salad, a bucket of 'fresh cut' fruit salad, a bunch of bananas that still seemed to have some green on them, and some cherry tomatoes. In addition, I purchased hot dog ad hamburger rolls and two bottles of Diet Coke. I'll give credit where credit is due...the deli salads were delicious. This is what warranted one star. HOWEVER... Yesterday I opened the fruit salad. it was COMPLETELY inedible. The melons were slimy with a horrible, disgusting, milky film all over them, the strawberries inside were completely rotted, and the pungent smell of fermented fruit made me nauseous. In the garbage it went...I should have checked the rest of the stuff at that point, because... This morning I went to grab one of the bananas to go with my cereal. The entire bunch was already rotting! Not just ripe...but the peels had split and the bananas were liquefying! It was awful! In the trash all the fruit went (I hadn't opened the tomatoes but didn't trust them at this point)...all $20 worth. Oh...the hot dog rolls were smushed because I didn't pay close enough attention and the cashier put them in the same bag as the Diet Coke. I'll stick with Shaw's...their prices are astronomical but at least the food is edible. Sorry Farmland, you've created a (completely disgusted) FORMER customer. read more

I am glad to have a small independent grocery store near my house, BUT, the cashiers are borderline hostile. No smile, no hello, no thank you. And throwing my food into the bag doesn't help either. Does management care? I'm guessing they are all family so they either look the other way or don't see it as a problem, but they seem determined to drive customers away. I love local grocers. It will be sad when they are all gone. -What I appreciate about farmland...veggie salads, basil and peppers plus pasta & bread in back. Good stuff. The deli guys are either super nice or super not nice. Then again, people waiting in deli lines are mostly awful so I give them an A+ for patience. The pastry ladies always nice despite the madness on weekends. -Just try to avoid buying a jar of Mayo here because it will cost you a small fortune. Either way, long live Farmland! That's why I was given one and confirmed. The Mgr walked away & seemed to careless. Nice!!!!! They did my daughters 18th cake & royally messed up on it & it looked horrible. Even with a fax, called in & went over the order they didnt do it!!! Scrapped part of the top & messy looking. They offered make another one/deliver but there was really no time & actaully they were going to scrap the whole cake. REALLY not thanks, I'll go elsewhere for EVERYTHING!!! Breakfast on the rush, we happened to see Farmland right across the street and saw a bakery sign, so we were like, meah, give it a try. It was the RIGHT PLACE TO GO! Grocery store itself was nothing too special, but the deli counter was so large and emerged into your face, you can not miss it. Sadly, the bakery was hiding behind the deli counter, a little lonely. It was early though I suppose. The moment I saw the display area, I was instantly in heaven! Soo many varieties of pastries, I was literally trying to get every single piece. They ain't exactly cheap, but worth the penny you put down. Legit, real, fluffy cream and puffs, fresh fruit. It was like a pastry porn. Lady behind the counter was grouchy looking and had a very heavy Italian accent. I guess it's just a european thing...Reminded me of one of my favorite local French place owned by a French lady. Quality of food has gotten progressively worse over the years but somehow, the prices remain consistent with competition. Staff (from cashiers to deli workers) are always rude and unpleasant. LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. I stopped getting Italian cold cuts anywhere else years ago. All the groceries are slightly priced higher, but who gives a shit. You don't go there for just cereal, diary, etc. This place is meant for purveyors of delicious delicatessen, pastries, fresh bread, veggies, and whatever the hell else I'm forgetting. Farmland has it covered. I always order the salami, prosciutto, mozzarella, calamari salad, fresh hamburger and seafood. The lines can be a little crazy and confusing, but no one dares cut someone lest they get their ass shanked in line. Hahahaha. I now have a favorite Saturday ritual. Since I am taking a class off 128 on Saturday mornings for the next few months, I will no doubt be spending every Saturday afternoon at The Farmland. I knew of the business because my sisters live locally and have brought their calzone to family parties, but until I spoke with the folks at Earth & Vine Provisions in California, I had no idea that The Farmland carried such a selection of food. Since I have a very busy schedule these days, I have been stockpiling provisions like Armageddon is approaching! That said, I only buy good quality food and products (with the exception of buying brand name cleaning products and office supplies in the dollar store). I frequently shop at the Butcher Boy in North Andover, McKinnon's Meat Market in Salem, NH or one of the NH Meat House Stores. They all carry excellent quality meat, breads, some ready made foods and gourmet products. Through one of these stores I got hooked on Earth & Vine Provision products, which they abruptly stopped carrying. I needed a serious fix since I was out E&V Mandarin Pumpkin Marmalade (an addiction) but am too frugal to pay the shipping charges to have it sent in from California. I called Earth & Vine yesterday who led me to The Farmland, and now I am hooked! First off, I bought a variety of Earth & Vine Products that I cannot wait to try, and secondly I am still in shock over the great quality and prices at The Farmland. Even the E&V products were $2 less than the web site price and what I had paid at other markets, so I could afford to take a chance on trying some of their chutney, relish and mustard in addition to another type jam. Since I was starving after class, I had them make me a good old Italian Sub, which was on a large fresh roll stuffed with fresh veggies and imported Italian cold cuts and only $5.00! (And people actually eat those horrible fat ridden $5 footlongs at you know where?) I still have half of it left over. I haven't had an Italian sub in years and I'm glad I chose to indulge at The Farmland since all the ingredients are A+. I came home with some amazing food and the best part is as I was cringing at the cash register the bill rang up at just a fraction of my usual grocery bill. :) Woohoo! A sampling of what I bought: Chicken salad (home made and awesome looking-well reviewed) Baby mozzarella balls with basil in imported olive oil Half a mushroom, spinach and cheese calzone Sirloin burgers to freeze Pound of ground sirloin Freshly made Orzo salad Bakery items: some square pizza, a spinach croissant and 4 other decadent items including mini rum baba and a half moon. Marinated turkey and pork tips A pound of sea scallops-pink and fresh at $7.99 a pound! Cold cuts: 1/3 lb of 2 imported cheeses and a selection of Italian cold cuts including imported Mortadella with pistachios. Chicken and broccoli ziti & amazing fruit including large packages of sliced papaya, mango and raspberries all under $3 each. I know I'm missing a few items, but without the Earth & Vine products my food bill totaled about $50! This same selection of less quality food would have cost me $80-$100 elsewhere. The turkey tips (6 large ones) rang up under $4 as did the ground sirloin and pork tips. Now I have a new exciting place to stop on my way home from class on Saturdays. And the class is turning out to be very cool too, so all in all it's not so bad waking up early on a Saturday morning. The Farmland also does catering for parties and has an amazing selection of gourmet cakes and even Italian pastries. No need to make a trip into the North End or Haymarket Square because great produce and other foods you love can be found right off Route 128 in Wakefield. If you live in the Boston area and haven't discovered The Farmland, check it out! Eat better, and save money. Life is too short to eat anything but the best food. read more

This is like the North Shore Cousin of Russo's, only without the killer produce section. And, the huge cheese section. What it DOES have is a huge bakery section, and a massive wonderful Butcher's Counter. Man, I was kvelling at what they had, and the prices. Unfortunately, I was working, and couldn't buy much. Having meat sitting in my saddlebags all day, would not be a great idea. However, I did get a "French Long Loaf" right out of the oven. Heaven! I also got a couple of ginormous Chocolate Whoopie Pies. The cake was kind of dry, and chalky, but the filling was wonderful. Kind of like a combo of marshmallow fluff, and a mousse.
