Overall better than expected. Nice atmosphere the specialty drinks are distinctive and the wings and nachos we tried were good. A bit disappointed when check arrived with full pricing for items listed on the menu as happy hour item M-F until 7pm...was told they discontinued Happy hour on Friday...sort of the wrong time to provide that tidbit. read more

Good food! We've gone many times and loved it! I love the chicken fried steak the most! (: It's really big though! My mom and sister just love the ribs there on Saturday night! They are the fall off the bone type which makes them really good! They both also like the chocolate fudge cake! They both say that it is very moist and scrumptious! Finally went back to Cotton Gin...took our family of 4 there for breakfast this time. I cannot believe I have not tried breakfast there before. Everything was great...I had the Huevos Rancheros but everything was excellent. I am still not a huge fan of so much fried food for lunch or dinner but this will now be a regular stop for breakfast. If you are around down town Prosper you should give it a try. Staff was very friendly and the restaurant was clean. read more

Edited: My family and I used to go here all the time with other church families when I was younger. The food isn't the best tasting but it certainly doesn't leave you hungry. Texas sized portions and friendly staff. read more

Food was delicious home cooked feel, ample portions, friendly staff. Very reasonable prices. Most patrons appeared to be locals. Kinda tucked away from the main flow of traffic in town. We will visit again and try some more offerings from the menu. read more

Stopped in for an unexpected late lunch and a couple of drinks on Monday. Glad I did. Several years back stopped at the old breakfast place and it was just ok. Love the new place. Finally a place that has a little character on the far north side. It was shift change so I was not expecting a lot. I was wrong as no staff member skipped a beat. Beers were spot on time and fresh with frosty glasses. When other peoples food came out you couldn't help but stare. Everything looked and smelled awesome. I had dinner plans so decided to ordered the sweet Thai chili wings. I am somewhat of wing expert so trust me when I say they were delicious. Big and thick and cooked perfectly. Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Not a chain wing for sure. As I said it was shift change and the bartender that took over was amazing. I think her name was Cassie. Very friendly and although she was busy building the bar for the next shift she never missed a beat with me or the others. She's top notch. Can't wait to return. They have a great patio out back and I hear the pizza is amazing. Can't wait to try it. The place was spotless clean sanitizing surfaces between customers. This was the first time my girlfriends and I have been to this cafe. We really liked the atmosphere and location. The food was good for the price and it was nice to order and pay upfront. Overall the service was ok, we couldn't help but notice this one worker, possible owner, she (heavy set white woman) was pretty short to customers on the phone and face to face. Gave us a bad taste of who was serving us....Nonetheless, we may come back again to get out of Frisco. read more

Eating at the Cotton Gin Café is like stepping back in time, it is what a small café use to be. The staff is friendly. The sandwiches and burgers are good as are the fries. The deserts are home-made large and tasty but their sandwiches and burger serving size is large enough that you may not have room for it. They also have a good breakfast if you're up that early. The only down side is it gets busy around noon so you may have to wait for a table. When my mother-in-law comes to visit she always want to go there for lunch. read more

The Gin has a great spot and a great vibe. I've visited only in the late afternoon,l/early evening, and I've never been disappointed. The location is great - right "downtown" in Prosper - the staff are universally friendly, and the food and drink is right on target, with a solid beer and wine selection. The indoor/outdoor patio is awesome, with a large fireplace and real fire on cool days, and some shelter on warmer ones. Plenty of TVs, and the customers are friendly folks too. This isn't a bad place to eat but it's one of the only places to eat in Prosper. It could be a little cleaner and the employees could use a nice bath. Seating is limited so if you want to sit down during lunch you will have to sit outside. While sitting out side you will spend most of your time swatting flies away from your food, as the patio they have is right next to their dumpsters. read more

I have been here 3 times and the first time the food was cold and bad tasting. But I let a friend talk me into going back for appetizers and that was better. So I go today thinking I will give it a try again. Will big mistake!! First I place my order of cheese burger and curly fries with burger well done cashier rudely said they are all cook that way. Went sat down at table friends food came out just waited and 20 minutes now gone by everybody has their food that came in after me. So I ask where is my hamburger and the waitress goes to kitchen after a few more minutes comes back with a hamburger and fries. I order cheese burger so I gave it back to her she walk to kitchen they put cold piece of cheese on this and gave it back to me. So then I notice the fries were regular fries not curly which I paid for. By now my lunch break is over and I am starving so I just ask for my money back. Wow you would have thought I was the one who did something wrong. The same rude cashier just gave me back the money for burger and fries. I ask where was the rest of my money and she said it was for the drink. Wow really you couldn't even give me the drink for the inconvenience?!! Poor poor service..... read more

This is the only restaurant we found in old downtown Prosper. It appears to be a combination of two old buildings with some new construction taking place on the back side of one of the sections. It was packed when we arrived. The air conditioning was working great as it was cool inside and in the high nineties outside. You order from the counter and we noted a special of the day was listed a brisket bar b q on a bun with a side for $5.99. We chose the brisket bar b q sandwich and the home made potato chips. We were given drink cup (extra charge) and got our own tea. The food was delivered to the table a few minutes alter. The potato chips were good, however the ranch dressing that came with them was so watered down it would not stay on the chips. The bar b q sandwich which we thought would be slices of brisket turned out to be almost ground beef with a ton of sauce on it. The sauce on the meat was huge. We liked the potato chips. There were also a couple of rings of onions and three pieces of pickles slices in the bottom of the tray. There was more than ample meat on the bun and due to the amount of sauce the sauce leaked through the bun making everything soggy. I must have used a dozen paper napkins. This is truly a "hole in the wall" restaurant and after eating we not at all sorry that we came. The crowd appeared to be just about all-local folks who seemed to enjoy their food. In all fairness we cannot give this place more than three stars and that is due to the food. The old building has a lot of charm and had the food been better we would have raised the rating at least one star. read more

I love going to this no non-sense cafe. I love that it's full of locals and coffee cost $.97 cup. Try the cheeseburger with fries for lunch. Get here early for breakfast, the place packs up quick. Breakfast is a great deal - taste great and at reasonable prices. read more

Great place. Wait staff needs to be more attentive. Wait staff also should not be dipping and spitting in trash where people can see them. Patio/ Dirt area needs lighting. Corn hole should be located on the side with lighting so people can play when there is a band. Overall not a bad place just have to work some kinks out. read more

My dad and daughter went for breakfast on 5/6/17. My dad who is older and has difficulties walking/standing for long periods of time sat down at an open table, he was told to get up and stand in line to order by a very rude woman working the register. My daughter was angry and wrote on the back of her receipt that the owners were a-holes and the cashier was a b--ch. I called the cafe to ask why and the manager was more concerned about the note than the extremely poor customer service. He said that my dad was offered another table, why? and both my dad and daughter said this didn't happen. Unfortunately this business is allowed to operate like this. The manager is right we don't have to come back and we will not, nor will we ever recommend this cafe to anyone. read more

This is a great place to eat - feels cozy and like home! The food is delicious - great place to go for home-cookin'! The owners and the employees are all so nice! Be sure to place your tip in the tip jar at the counter - the employees do everything a waitress/waiter does. They take the orders, make sure it's correct, bring it to you, and clean up afterwards - all with a wonderful attitude. They will customize anything for you! Everything you expect from a small town cafe. I recommend the Chicken Fried Steak with green beans and okra. Next time I go I want to check out some of the other items. Fried pickles were tasty as well. Prices and quality will definitely warrant another trip. read more
