Only half of the staff were wearing masks and no one was wearing it properly. The bartenders weren't wearing masks at all and there was no social distancing. We turned around and left. I was disappointing because this was our first time going out since covid and there were no precautions. The Gin is close for me to go to, but if we decide to venture out again we will go somewhere further away that has safety measures in place. We really liked this place pre-covid. read more

We have eaten lunch here, which was fantastic. So we can for breakfast. The biscuits are AWESOME. The eggs were cooked perfect. Bacon was really good. Hash browns were average. Had to deduct one star for not having a pork sausage patty option and only two options for jelly. The prices are really good, $8 for full breakfast. Coffee is smooth. This place could be exceptional with a little imagination on the hash browns (onion, pico). Definitely will come back. I want to try the gravy. So I used to love this place, I came in tonight with my husband we took a seat at one of the tables, waited 15-20 mins before my husband went to the bar to get our drinks since noone came over, 20 mins later still no drinks guy at the bar said he'd bring them right over to us.. nope, so we saw a waitress heading our way long dirty blonde hair didn't say one word to us decided to clean the table behind us, again no words. Have been three times - staff is super friendly, atmosphere is casual but fun. However, food is mediocre and all three times we had to wait around 45 minutes to get a simple meal. Way too long of a wait for average food, especially the one time we were there with young kids. 1) The manager did come to talk to us about our experience, but that doesn't improve the stars (we don't post reviews to get offers of free stuff). 2) The personality/attitude of our waitress was not the problem, it was just service level over all. The manager had a misconception that our food was the problem - no, pizza was just fine. The problem was other (more obvious money folk) tables being served first - and us often being forgotten about. I had to use tissues out of my purse as napkins. Never got red pepper. Drinks took longer than the other tables we watched getting served on the reg. I felt like I should have brought a more expensive purse, my paycheck stub and proof of ownership of the property I own to compete for service. This is the third time I've been here for breakfast. First time, the girl at the counter seemed very put out we had the audacity to order any food and completely irritated when I asked for no green peppers in my omelette. Second time, there was a large black hair hiding under my pancake. When told about it, girl at counter rolled her eyes. No "I'm sorry". The owner (I think?) gave me a cinnamon bun after I returned my plate but only after about 2 min of "gee, sorry about that". Third time, this morning. You have to wait in line to order, then get your table--which is exactly what we did. My husband was signing the credit card receipt, I got the cups for our drinks and sat down. Immediately, I was confronted by some lady who very rudely and loudly (without a 'good morning' or 'excuse me') said "you can't sit till you order)--EVEN THOUGH I HAD THE DRINK CUPS YOU GET AFTER ORDERING AND PAYING. I said I knew the rules and I have the cups. She just said sorry and walked away. I'll tell you, the food is ok but not good enough to warrant rude behavior and hair in my food. read more

We met my parents here for lunch and enjoyed our food. It is a solid American food restaurant with no frills. But what stands out is the service! I am very new to the Prosper area and my mom and I came across this Restaurant called The Gin! Manager Ricky, was so wonderful and helpful, along with all the staff. The menu has reasonable pricing on everything and all the food looked A1! Everything is Cleaned and once customers we're done eating, their plates got removed fastly so it wouldn't crowd them. I loved the atmosphere of the place as well as the live music. I think place would be better when it gets a little warmer, so you can sit outside. Finding a table was hard because the place is small. The food was good. We had sliders, pizza, quesadillas, and the Gin Sliced Beef. The burgers and pizza were better than the sliced beef and quesadillas, but the weird thing is the timing of the food. Some of the food is cooked in the inside kitchen, and some is cooked outside in a food truck. So some of the party received their food while half the party had to wait up to 20 more minutes for their food. We tried waiting for everyone to get their food before we started eating, but the food that was already served was getting cold. Most everyone finished their food when the last person received their pizza. It was awkward, and should be worked on. We did enjoy our experience,and will try the place again; hopefully, we can all eat together next time. read more

Went to The Gin last night (Wed. 5-11) for my birthday. Fortunately, the food was very good, as it normally is. However, the service was so terrible I was embarrassed I chose to go there. We sat on the patio (8 people) due to the nice whether and were swarmed by flies. This problem was compounded by the fact not one person ever bussed our table. Not even once. We eventually had to move our dirty dishes to the bench behind us to try and clear the flies. The dishes were never picked up from the bench either. Our server was not attentive and seemed more interested in taking a quick order and moving on. She didn't realize more than one person at our table wanted something so we had to stop her to take additional requests before she left, disappearing for long periods of time. Our food came out staggered rather than all at once which is always awkward, not to mention we were not given enough utensils so we were trying to share because, again, our server was MIA. We didn't end up ordering dessert because we were all tired of fighting flies and the bad service. I just told our server we were full so we could get our check and leave. Outside of the food, the experience was very disappointing. We won't go back there again for a group event. We will sit at the bar where service is normally pretty good. read more

The town of Prosper is a hidden gem in itself, and the Cotton Gin, or "Gin" is worth discovering. As the Wuhan virus recedes, it is good to see diners relaxing in The Gin and enjoying the bar drinks and menu items. This is good honest Southern comfort food with generous portions. They don't skimp on the meat, and the sides are substantial. The wine list is adequate and the bar service up to par. Table service was provided by cheerful, pleasant and helpful servers, although it seemed no-one could find Tabasco (I got up and got it). My party was pleased, and we'll go back. read more
