Bad service and horrible food. Lots of waitresses standing around doing next to nothing .

My wife and I stopped as we were passing through. Definitely worth the stop. My Philly Cheesesteak was very good and my wife's Grilled Chicken Salad looked delicious. Very charming atmosphere. We were really excited to try this place - what a let down. It was a not so very busy Thursday. We sat outside and after over 10 minutes of sitting and nobody coming to our table we decided to get up and leave. The straw that broke the camel's back was a couple sat at the table immediately in front of us and before they could even sit down the waitress came up to them and asked them what she could get them to drink - all while we had been there waiting. This was my first time at The Gin. It's very family friendly and they have a decent menu. I ordered the fish and chips which was good and not greasy at all. The fries were a lemon spice flavor which was interesting but just as good. I also ordered the smash which is one of their signature cocktails. It's fruity and refreshing. It looks like they have a great patio area but I was not able to go out there due to the weather but once it warms up I will definitely be back to check it out. read more

Our family discovered The Cotton Gin upon moving here several years back & loved the place. They then opened the Gin next door and my wife & I go there frequently with friends. We were very excited that the restaurant side had opened back up after a renovation and went for dinner. Most of the menu was gone. Not that it was bad, but I am comparing it to it's previous self that all the locals loved. I want to eat comfort food, not a plate from someone who watches too much Robert Irvine. Unless you want pizza, my suggestion would be to just go to a regular restaurant. If you want to spend $20 on a country fried steak go to a steak house. We will continue going to the bar and even eat their food if it too doesn't change, but sad they took a local legend that was so popular and forgot why it was read more

Over priced, tough meat, poor service, terrible ambiance. We left there very unsatisfied minus $100 for myself and 2 kids- no alcohol.

I heard they just opened from a new remodel. My daughter has cheer lessons next door so I decided to stop in for coffee and check it out. I'm glad I did! I ended up staying for breakfast. Food was timely and tasty. Staff was friendly and welcoming, great service! I'll be back again. Looking forward to checking out the bar and the backyard this summer with live music! Very disappointed. Went to try this place for the first time. Was seated and given a menu. After 15min of nobody coming to even take a drink order, and at least 5 employees walking by including the owner, we left. There was hardly anybody there and it wasn't like we were hidden in the corner. Sad that nice looking place had such bad service. Likely not recommending this place. read more

Been meaning to come and delete my original 2-star review because, after all I live not far and I don't want it going out of business. Plus, I thought being a small privately, locally owned place the owners would see my review and make a minor adjustment. Well they didn't. Was back on a weekend night for a private event on the patio. There was band there, not part hired for the private event. Again, playing country music as loud as a rock band at Trees. Couldn't talk to others at the event. This place just doesn't get that most of us want a gathering place to drink good beer, socialize with friends and neighbors and enjoy some country music as the backdrops to our local place. Unfortunately not a good experience at The Gin this evening. The young man seating people was carrying his mask in his hand (pretty sure it doesn't offer much protection there) At least 90% of the staff were not wearing masks and they were serving food and walking around like this. They also allow people to walk in not wearing masks. Only reason we stayed was because our server was wearing a mask the whole time. This is the second time in a row that we have experienced these conditions at The Gin, I guess they just don't get it. The person that I think might be the manager was also walking around with no mask and I did observe him putting it on as he approached people that had just come in the door. As an aside the food was also not anywhere near as good as it used to be. Especially the pizza which used to be excellent is now tasteless crust and very disappointing. We will not return and that is a shame because it is the only thing going on in downtown Prosper. read more

Server left it on the table and it was room temperature. At the insistence of a friend placed an order for take out this afternoon. 3 items that will be ready in 15 minutes. Arrived 20 minutes later to discover they lost the order..no record of the order and the man who took the call was no where to be found. This place is very country, very good 'ol boy! Anti-mask in the middle of Covid (pre vaccine). Their elote-style corn was probably the worst corn I've ever had in my life, and that is no exaggeration! Canned corn may have honestly had them beat! The food was extremely underwhelming, and I was amazed at how much they messed up a margarita pizza. Definitely do not recommend, especially at their price point! read more

I love the Gin! Great food and ambiance. I love the Cobb salad. They have live music and different events. It really is the best place to go in Prosper where there aren't a lot of great choices. I do wish they had a longer bar and bigger bar area. The staff is friendly and good at their jobs. read more

The Cotton Gin has open its doors under the new name The Gin. I went there today for lunch and was not happy with what I got. I got the Chili Cheese Dog. It is an open face sandwich that you eat with fork and knife. There is no way to pick it up. I only ate half of it. The menu should say it's open face. The menu is very limited now and the prices have skyrocketed. They now have a hostess an Waite staff. They went fufu to keep up with other Resturants in the area I guess. A chicken fried steak is now $20.00 see the menu.... the service is good. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. I may go back an try a different menu item. read more

Time to reboot- What a joy to find Perky happy Joey behind the counter (order first here then seat yourself) ready to explain advise and suggest all various and sundry parts of the Cotton Gin's soul stickin' menu. Salad? 9 choices here all recognizable from any church covered dish summer supper. Sandwhich? I suspect all Norman Rockwell's favs from the diner often drawn by him are represented here too. Breakfast? Worth being here at 7am sharp for (door opens)- check out the cinnamon rolls. Now back to Joey and my odd time visit (2:30pm on a Thursday watch that by the way as M-W they close at 3) - I ordered coffee and a slice of Mandarin Orange Cake. I was handed a mug to self fill and my generous slice of cake. Joey offered to make a fresh pot as he suspected what was there I may find old. I poured and tasted and said no it's just fine. 8mins later Joey comes over w a fresh mug- "now try this" - he was right there was a difference. Thanks!! That cake I mentioned?!? Wow it ranks high in my personal is it worth the sit ups and push ups sugar meter. Ambiance? A nearly 100yr old cowboy was my coffee companion. We discussed the new road expansion on Coleman. The Cotton Gin Cafe is a neat place on the square in the historic part of Prosper. It seems like it may be one of the few places to go in Prosper but I am sure in a couple years there will be McDonalds and Chilis on every corner. The food isn't amazing and the service is fine but nothing amazing either but the feel is great and unique. It feels like you are in Mayberry and Aunt B is going to walk in any minute looking for you. One of the other reviewers wrote "it is exactly what a small town cafe should be" and I completely agree. They also have a back patio area that is nice and part of it is an enclosed porch which is also nice when you want to be outside but not eaten alive by mosquitos. If you are in the area, I would recommend you give the Cotton Gin Cafe a try. It also has really good prices. read more
