My wife and I "happened" on this place for late lunch. We were apprehensive about trying the place; however, when we began seeing the food coming out to the tables, we were impressed! Everything looked delicious--and generous. I had the blacked grilled salmon tacos and my wife had a hot dog--with bottomless fries. We don't eat fries often, so we're picky about how they're served. These were the best fries I've ever had! The tacos were outstanding, and the hot dog my wife ordered has me thinking I may get one next time in--and there will be a "next time." Love this place sit outside on the deck is worth the wait not a long wait for us just 20 min for lunch on 4th of July week so that's not bad. Food was amazing try mussels for a appetizer if you like them perfect here. I had Malibu chicken tacos that were perfection filled me up to cuz I'm always getting burgers for lunch so I'm glad I tried something new. Last Friday night, 10/21/16 we had 36 people in for a wedding rehearsal dinner out on the deck. Upon arrival, they were ready and Jackie and Becky made us feel like we were a party of 4. The service and food were first class. Christian, the Chef came out to confirm that all was well which was also a great touch. I couldn't be happier. Gateway tavern is great! The food is standard pub menu with some traditional New England favorites. The drinks are a little weak though. Service is hit or miss but the portions are pretty generous. I like the option of sides for sandwiches or burgers and typically get the sweet potato fries! The half off appetizers special though is ONLY if you sit at the bar, not in the bar area which is crap especially since the bar is always full with local regulars who park there with one drink! I always recommend this place to my friends, especially over The Wave which is just the next town over for the same type of food but blows them out of the water! It is a bit pricy for pub food but the portions are generous. read more

One of my favorite places to meet my friends for dinner. I can always count on a great meal and friendly waitstaff. The tuna is my favorite but the wedge salad is a very close second. There is a lively atmosphere which always makes for a great night out. Also, the daily specials makes it hard to decide what have because the list is so long. We love it here. The food is always consistent and you can tell they are proud of what they are putting on a plate. We've never had bad service either, and consistently see the same waitstaff and bartenders which tells me people like their jobs. We frequent here for a reason, whether it's date night, girls night, or a family dinner you never disappoint. Good food, the buffalo macaroni is too spicy and not cheesy enough (it tasted like they dumped half a bottle of Frank's Red Hot in there), but other than that no complaints. I can't rave enough about this place. I have been coming here for years and have never had bad service. The food is to die for and always large portions. The wait staff is so friendly and attentive. The Portuguese Fish is one of my favorite but all the meals are super good. Also love the soft pretzels, the nachos are huge for apps. We like to sit at the bar sometimes and the cocktails are well made. Our favorite waitress is Jo Ann she is a hoot. Predictable pub fare, very well prepared, large portions. Diverse menu. Vegans will be challenged. We got fish and chips, broiled fish, steak, nachos, quesadillas, chili, Mac and cheese, and side veggies. All proteins and carbs were really good. We all took food home. Went to the Gateway Tavern Saturday night 08/24/2013 for the first time in close to a year. Last time wasn't all that satisfying this time wasn't much better. Started with the nachos, ok but nothing special, actually rather tasteless. Next I ordered turkey tips with sweet potato fries and cole slaw, my dinner was excellent. The Mrs. ordered fried seafood fish & scallops not good at all. Batter was far beyond crispy, there's crispy then there's burnt, hers was burnt. We finished the meal with fried cheesecake, which was suppose to have a side of vanilla ice cream, if it had a side it was invisible. My trip to Gateway is about a 30 mile drive. Have been there numerous times in the past, always satisfied until the last two trips. Love the location, sitting on the deck at sunset in the summer. Enjoy the variety of the menu and service has always been good. However to drive 30 miles to a "seafood" restaurant that can't even fry fish and obviously have very poor quality control is f'n unreal. My wife pissed me off asking me not to complain. But the kitchen isn't the only issue, the waitress should have seen the fish was unacceptable and if she didn't notice when she bought the plate to the table. She should have noticed when all the batter was peeled off the small portion that was eaten and the rest was being taken home to the dogs. I can say that this place has always been one of my favorite places to eat but tonight sucked! I went with a friend of mine after telling him how great it was. And it wasn't the food that was bad it was the service after a drink my friend and I ate some apps we wanted to have another drink but the server was no where to be found. I ask another server and they ignored me then asked another and they said they can't do anything cause there not my server after that I looked for the hostess but she was missing as well then attempted to ask a waitress for a manger and she just told me that there not here.Then after all of that our waitresses finally shows up and of all things places the check down when we were not even done with our second beer . I can say that there servers have no manners there is no dress code they wear whatever they want with there hair down all over the food. The only complaint I can ever come up with is that between the two food specials offered every day (lunch and dinner), there's too many great choices to choose from. I had the steak and cheese eggrolls that where so good and come with onion rings on top that were delicious. I also ordered a order of chicken and waffles(waffles fries) also super delicious. The portions here are great and I left over full and had leftover food so I was very happy. The prices seem high looking at the menu but when the food comes out and you see the portion size and taste the food you'll know it's very fair. This is a bar/pub but the food is of very good quality. The portions are huge. The haddock was two full filets and the Lobster Mac and Cheese contained a full lobster. The price was great as well. I have been visiting this restaurant for over 10 years and now it is time to let the world know! The Gateway has a sports bar/speakeasy décor/motif. Clean, just lit perfectly and the friendliest people on earth as well as the most attentive (NOT overly attentive that you want to ask them to leave you alone!) waitresses ever! Morgan, Veronica, and all are just superb! The menu is large, however, there is something for everyone. Specials daily for lunch and dinner, and all are quality, home made from the GT kitchen, with a little twist that makes them unique. I have NEVER had a poor or even HO HUM meal! All have been good, great or excellent. Portions are huge and prices are fair. The drinks?? NO problem! Always full pours and hearty! No watered down ones here! I have been here at least three times and this is close to a 4.5. It isn't obvious, but there is a really nice view of the salt marsh out the back of the restaurant. There is an active bar scene and the restaurant always seems crowded. The food is stick to your ribs type food, so if you like light food, the GT would not be a good fit. The food is pub food, so don't go expecting a fancy bistro type cuisine. The portions are HUGE and everything is really tasty. It seems like they use fresh and high quality ingredients. The last time we went we had another meal from the leftovers. The only negative is that the place seems like it needs a good scrubbing. It isn't filthy and, yes, I am kind of a neat freak. read more

Recently revisited the Gateway, which I do whenever in the area. Had a great dining experience overall with my kids. Wonderful service and food was delish!! Started with the fried dill pickles -- we all LOVED them! My kids then split the steak tips and quesadilla kid meals -- nice healthier options for them! I had the Sesame Tuna, which was cooked to perfection! Great variety of meal options for the whole family. Service was courteous and timely. And eating out on the deck on a beautiful day was just what we were looking for! Wish we were down that way more often!! read more
