My friend who owns a business just up the street suggested we meet there for dinner tonight and boy am I glad she did! The food! Every thing I tasted was a delight. There were so many amazing flavor, combinations, and spices and sauces that complemented each dish. We ordered five items and all of them were excellent. We've been to Cast many times and were so excited to bring friends visiting and have always appreciated having a place like this in town. We genuinely love Marion and were so excited when Cast opened--it's been our go-to for a quick date night with great ambiance. But sadly, this visit was a big disappointment. We ordered the chicken tacos, which are supposed to be pulled chicken, but they came out soggy with tiny bits of flavorless roasted chicken--definitely not what we expected. I couldn't even eat the second one and left hungry. We also got the hot crab dip. The dip itself was good, but the crackers were super greasy. We tried a few different drinks, but none really stood out. Don't walk, run to Cast! There are a few good restaurants but there aren't many amazing restaurants in the beach towns around this area. I came here twice on my week long vacation, it is that good! The Nautor's Swan beverage is delicious and went dow easy. the oyster happy hour ($2 shucks) was perfect and that brine it is served with was tangy with a hint of grapefruit. A few other highlights were the fish tacos (2 tacos per order), corn, and tuna crudo. I can't wait to visit again! read more

I hate to do negative reviews, especially for new businesses, but I was very disappointed with Cast Seaside. I want to start off by saying that the staff and atmosphere were wonderful. Our waitress was so kind and it was an adorable place to eat. Unfortunately, the prices for the food and what you get is outrageous. I understand this is a tapas restaurant, however, these tapas are the smallest tapas I have ever ordered. Paying over $50 for three small plates, especially with the food being just mediocre, was crazy. Sharing the plates make it even worse because there is hardly enough to share. I guess this is more of a spot for drinking, but I would not come here if I were hungry again. It was our first time, and looking at the reviews online, the food looked much bigger than it actually was. Overall, it was a very underwhelming experience and we will not be returning. read more

I very rarely write Yelp reviews, but my experience at Cast today left me no other choice. Every single detail-- from the food, to the service, to the atmosphere-- was meticulously thought out and perfectly executed to the point where I'm left picking up my jaw from off the floor. Atmosphere: As soon as I walked up to the restaurant, I was greeted by the sound of Stick Figure (a modern reggae band) and the sight of Cast's beautiful patio/terrace seating. Walking in to the dining room, I couldn't help but notice how pristine and bright the space was. While Cast isn't nearly as big as its sister restaurant Ella's, it felt slightly more welcoming and open thanks to the natural sunlight pouring in from all directions. I opted to sit outside to relish the last bits of summer we have left and I was not in the least bit disappointed. Service: Katrina is a rockstar. There's no way around it. Her service was attentive but not over-bearing, informative but not demeaning, friendly but not patronizing. Having worked in restaurants for over ten years, I saw all of the qualities that I believe embody the true spirit of hospitality and she made it seem so effortless. Kudos to you Katrina. Food and drink: I started off with a mocktail that was a modified version of a cocktail on their menu (I'm drawing a blank on the name) with passion fruit, strawberries, jalapeños (?), and a touch of coconut. The perfectly balanced notes of sweet, juicy, tart, and spicy paired perfectly with the breeze and sun on my face. No alcohol needed for that warm, fuzzy feeling we all yearn for in a pre-meal libation. The Mexican Street Corn and the blistered shishito peppers were immaculate. With just a dusting of cotija cheese and a touch of taijin and chipotle aioli, the corn and shishito peppers really were the stars of the show, charred just enough to bring some of those natural sugars front and center. Unlike a lot of other restaurants I've been to, the cooking really spoke for itself instead of having to rely on the condiments that ultimately drown out the flavors of the dish's main component. Though I blame myself for ordering two dishes with similar flavor profiles, they were incredibly flavorful and a perfect segway into my "main" dish (not pictured) which was the baked cana de cabra with maitake mushrooms and blue corn tortillas. The creamy and buttery flavors of the cana de cabra perfectly complemented the unctuous, meaty hen-of-the-woods mushrooms, making these three mini tacos the ultimate umami bombs that paired so nicely with my non-alcoholic pale ale. Finally, we need to talk about the tres leches cake with house-made whipped cream, pineapple, a rum-caramel sauce, and a sprinkling of toasted coconut. This is by far my new favorite dessert. I didn't think it was possible for a cake to be soft and dense at the same time, but I gladly stand corrected. Katrina mentioned how the kitchen had first experimented with strawberries instead of pineapple, and while I'm sure strawberries would have worked well, the pineapple brought everything to the next level. Paired with a freshly brewed cup of coffee, this dessert was both refreshing and filling without being too sweet or needing to be rolled out of the restaurant. Other details: I love seeing more and more restaurants adopting a more equitable pay structure, which is why I am 100% a proponent for the kitchen/administrative fee. Knowing what I know about how restaurants actually work, it's important to recognize that the entire dining experience encompasses the hard work and dedication of both the waitstaff and the kitchen staff, which cannot simply be rectified by "paying your staff more" as I noticed some people mentioned in their reviews. That the owners/management recognize this fact reflects their true love and dedication to their craft. All in all, I'd say that the entire team did a terrific job in every regard and I very much look forward to coming back. read more

We had the pork shank (good), the butternut squash and purple potatoes (fabulous flavor), red quinoa salad (excellent) and Mexican corn (perfect). Also had a reasonably priced bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. Our server was great, just enough attention, not too much, not too little. Loved the octopus theme that was carried throughout and into the bathrooms. The only compliant is the noise level in the restaurant. I was very surprised because ceilings are low, plaster ceiling and room isn't huge but for some reason it was loud. Not too bad, have definitely been in worse volume. We tried 4 plates and each had a drink and the cost was not outrageous at all. We spend the same amount and then some in other places. The hostess and the waitstaff were very attentive and polite! OK, so my wife and I decided to try the new place in Town.... Cast had some interesting menu items, but they seem to neglect the dining experience. Everything about the place screams "we are maximizing revenue". The place was nearly empty but they seated us at a tiny table inches from an occupied table because it was the next table in line. They pack the tables into what is really just an oversized garden shed decorated like "cottage kitsch". The small plates concept is overdone and seems only a way to get you to buy a series of plates until your bill adds up without providing you with enough food. $11 for a draft beer is steep. The 1.5% kitchen appreciation fee was really annoying. They say they will take it off if you don't want to pay it, but that's just emotional manipulation. Pay your staff decently and you don't need to nick everyone for a fee. Both of us decided we won't be back. We give them two, maybe three years only because they have so little competition. read more
