I returned to the Atlantic Bistro a year after my first review. Unfortunately the food seems to have slightly lost its edge. Swordfish with Polenta lacked flavor. The Caesar salad was lackluster. Several items were not delivered after the first request. Most important the noise level of the restaurant was, simply put, very oppressive. I'm not sure what the decibel level is but I'm sure it was higher than a New York subway station. If you want to carry on a meaningful conversation, it would be helpful to be proficient in American Sign Language or perhaps to bring a bullhorn. This is really a shame. There are many cost effective options the restaurant could pursue to cut down on the noise level. For example, quilts could replace the paintings on the wall. This would be in keeping with the Cape/Colonial aesthetic of the restaurant. read more

The food could definitely be upgraded! Ordered French Onion Soup and returned (too salty). Bad Start! Other starter was the Mussels better but average at best. The last item was the Pork Chop dish which I returned as it tasted underdone, and when returned was OK but nothing I would return for. Thus my 2 stars. I have to add that my previous visit was a much better experience. Thus consistency is a problem here I guess. read more

Absolutely delicious. Quaint dining with great menu choices. Had the Brussels Sprout appetizer and crab dip that was crazy delicious. Enjoyed the chicken breast as my entree and my husband had the prime Rib burger both cooked perfectly. Very tasty, plate licking good! Wine and martinis were also good and the desserts!!! Yikes! Enjoyed the lemon tart and a few of the others and none disappointed. Will def be back. read more

We are always trying to get into this place. Chef Owner Extraordinaire. And the gnocchi especially provides a mortal glimpse into the Platonic ideal of the dish. So this review probably isn't needed. But... due to the irresistible enthusiasm of our server Brooke, I ordered the house made strawberry ice cream - hot fudge sundae style. It was like fresh from the garden frozen strawberries suspended in a cloud of frozen fluffy cream, something that I imagine a Gilded Age Andrew Carnegie enjoying as a luxury only the Musks and Bezos of his age could afford. Decided to try a new spot other then my usuals and came to yelp to find a spot. I went in by myself on a Thursday night and the bar was full and two people noticed and let me know they were leaving. It is a small bar and everyone seemed to be regulars and they were very welcoming and friendly. I had a gin martini from the cocktail list that was delicious and ordered a cheese board. It was a perfect little snack and I shared it w a couple next to me who then in return gave me a slice of their duck entree. If I was going to have a full dinner I would have ordered the duck. It was cooked to a perfect medium and so tender. I am looking forward to going back next week as I'll be in the area. read more

Meh. I really wanted to like this place, but it was solidly mid on every level. Went to celebrate a milestone birthday. Best thing about the evening was the table, which was in a lovely spot by a window. Ordered the crab dip app to start and the Caesar salad. Dip was light on the crab and not worth finishing. Cornichons were the best part. Caesar was oily and flavorless, with oxidized romaine I wouldn't serve to my family at home. Entrees were the duck and scallops. Duck was cooked medium with flabby skin. Half was taken home for the pooch. She liked it. Scallops were fresh at least and not overcooked but no care otherwise was taken in their prep. If there's such a thing as a half assed sear that would describe it. Beige? Decided to cut our losses and bail before even looking at the dessert menu to avoid further disappointment. Don't even get me started on the thoroughly underwhelming "wine list". Worst I've encountered in the area by far. Go elsewhere if you're looking for an enjoyable meal and evening. This place is amazing. The staff are friendly and the service is spot-on. Three of us shared the mushroom vol en vent and the gnocci to start. Both were fantastic and flavored nicely. The gnocci was in a cream sauce with peas and ham and reminded me of potatoes au gratin from my childhood. I had the Statler chicken breast for dinner and it came with beautiful veggies, mashed potatoes, and a lovely gravy. The portion was generous. My parents had the haddock and pork chop, both looked delicious, especially the pork which had a cherry demi. For dessert we shared a macchiato ice cream with biscotti. A great way to cap off a lovely dinner! The restaurant also has a small bar that looks like a nice spot to relax. Worth a visit if you are in the Marion/Mattapoisett area! read more

I must say I was very skeptical of the early reviews of this restaurant. In the first 3 months of operation, they racked up 12 5* reviews, but the 12 reviewers had only posted an average of 7 reviews in their tenure on Yelp. 8 of the 12 reviewers had 4 or less reviews to their credit. I waited almost 5 months before going here in hopes that more experienced reviewers would appear. Some did, but not enough for me to trust the overall rating. The prices are on the high side for the atmosphere and what you get, which is why I could not give it 5*s. We had 2 glasses of wine, 2 appetizers, and 2 main dishes. The total (before tip) was $104. I would put the value more like $85. The atmosphere is nothing special, but the food and service were very good. We had the Smoked Cod Chowder soup and the Maison Trois for apps. I really liked the smoky taste to the chowder and would be happy to order it again. La Maison Trois is a sampler of three items they choose daily. All were good especially the crab cake. My personal problem was that there are only 6 main dishes on the menu and I really didn't feel like having any of them. I settled on the Lamb Shank. I am not a really big fan of Lamb Shank, but this was likely the best one I have ever had. My wife got Scallops and thought they were really good. The wines we had were Pinot Noir and Cab. Both were good, but the Pinot was better. It is possible that I might go back, but the lack of variety in main dishes combined with the somewhat high price, makes it less likely. read more

Pricey for the quantity and quality. Bad experience with cappuccinos, which were cold, and with Tawny Port. If you appreciate port you clearly know a tawny from a ruby. When I called the waitress on it she opted to send the rude bartender over with a sub-par bottle of Fonseca 10 year "tawny" which clearly was the minimum necessary to call it a tawny. The bartender was rude and tried to convince me this was a worthy Tawny by telling me her husband was born in Porto, Portugal. Never once did she offer an alternative or concede that maybe their tawny might not be worthy of the area and patrons they serve. Very disappointed. Will not go back! Unfortunate as the food was not bad but not fantastic. read more

1st visit to this recently opened place. Food was delicious, obviously fresh & nicely presented. I started with the asparagus soup w/truffled lobster...they pour it table side, which is nice, the aroma pours out with the soup. Then I wanted to try the soft shell crab, I ordered the sandwich, I didn't actually eat the sandwich...I pulled out the crab & ate it directly. Yes, I'm sure if I asked for a "special" order, they would have accommodated my request, but, I felt it was faster & easier to get the whole sandwich. The house frites with the sandwich were very yummy, remind me of the potato sticks from the can that I use to eat all the time as a kid. Entree was the coriander crusted scallops. Great flavors, Fresh & perfectly cooked. Finished w/strawberry shortcake. It was very tasty, definitely needed to soak some of the pastry in the juices. read more

Disappointing dinner for 4. The cheese board selections were ordinary, accompanied by thick slabs of raisin bread. The salads had barely detectable dressing. The salmon was overcooked and dry, the mussels were also overcooked as well as overwhelmed by too many additional flavors and ingredients. The duck and the scallops entrees were fine. This is a fantastic restaurant that would hold its own in any large city with significant competition. I ate here recently as part of a small group dining for a special occasion, and had to add my 5-stars here. The food and wine list is extremely focused and high quality (some will likely find it to be too short, though these people should stick to Chinese take out), and each and every item I tried was fantastic. The menu changes quite a bit, and on the night of our visit they had a really fun mix of entrees -- you can tell that the chefs love showing you what they can do to elevate flavorful, difficult-to-cook selections like lamb shank or duck leg. I enjoyed the use of local ingredients up and down the menu. The kitchen even goes so far as to make its own graham cracker ice cream for a raspberry torte dessert. It is certainly not inexpensive to dine in for a full meal with drinks and appetizers, but I actually found it to be extremely reasonably priced for the quality of what you're getting. On the way out I got a brief glance in the kitchen -- wish I had been able to watch these folks work more, and would kill for a chefs table! read more

Hands down, the best new restaurant on the South Shore. I've been there twice now and both times were incredible. Both times I had the Mushroom appetizer and once the Steak Fritz and the other the Salmon with Mustard Buerre Blanc as my main courses. Great food and great service with a price that is totally reasonable for what you get. The wine list is also exceptional. I liked the Hendrick's Gin drink with cucumber but thought the lime was unneeded. Still, a delicious quaff. The Atlantic Bistro is great now and it's only a couple of months old, I can't wait to try the menu when Autumn & Winter come along and the Chef and Staff spread their wings! read more

This is our second visit and they did not disappoint! Our waiter was Justin and he was very attentive. Checked on us frequently but not to the point of being annoying. Knew all the specials and offered good suggestions. Started with the charcuterie platter that was out of this world. I had the cassoulet with duck confit and my wife had the caramelized scallops. The cassoulet was the best I have ever tasted. The beans cooked perfectly and the sausage was perfectly spiced. The duck confit on top sent me over the edge. My wife's scallops served over a squash purée were perfectly seared and extremely tender. Finished up with coffee, an assortment of cookies and pistachio biscotti ice cream. Ordered way too much and took 1/2 my cassoulet and almost all of the cookies home. The restaurant was close to capacity tonight with a nice mix of quiet couples enjoying a romantic night out to a group of 12 having the time of their life. We chatted with the owner/chef and told him to keep up the great work. Pretty cute spot! The place was pretty full but we were able to be seated at a 4 person table pretty quickly. We ordered our drinks and the couple next to us at a 2 person table ended up leaving. The hostess kindly asked us to move over to the smaller table which wasn't a problem at all. We ordered the mushroom vol-au-vent to start which was absolutely delicious. I got the scallops as my main meal. I wish the scallops were a bit larger or there were some sides included for the cost. After we finished our entrees the same hostess came over with some house made sorbet to apologize for making us switch tables which wasn't needed but very much appreciated. I would definitely head back to try some other items on the menu if I'm in the area again. read more

The field greens salad was composed of quality ingredients, and large enough to share, with a flavorful shallot vinaigrette. The salad had a mild kick from the honey and cayenne roasted pistachios which served to subtly push a simple salad over the top. The mushroom tartine was equally impressive. The statler chicken was plated beautifully and so moist. The bistro steak was cooked perfectly and delicious. Both meals were accompanied by the freshest most delicious asparagus and quite lovely potatoes. Desserts are made in house and well worth the splurge. I never write Yelp reviews. Having worked in the restaurant industry for over ten years, I've always been kinda wary of yelp. My experience at the Atlantic Bistro is the first restaraunt that gave me a reason to log in and reminisce. I first came here with my parents. Though appearing small on the outside, the inside was spacious and well laid out. We sat at the bar and service was incredible. Before ordering my drink, I surveyed the bottles behind the bar. I knew in an instant that the bartender could make me my favorite drink, a Negroni; and boy was it good. Sean, the bartender, was awesome. Super knowledgeable and down to earth. Our conversation consisted of sports talk and cocktails. I always dread going out to dinner with my parents because I know my mom is super picky about her drinks; he made her cosmopolitan just the way she likes it. I'm not usually one for appetizers, but it was cold out and I ordered the carrot ginger soup. The presentation was awesome; they poured the soup right in front of me and topped it off with a dollop of creme fraiche and a warm cranberry biscotti. My stepdad got the Long Island duck two ways and said it was the best dish he's ever eaten. My mom got the scallops and was equally as happy; I decided to go for the Statler chicken and they did everything perfectly. You'd think that a restaurant like this would be manned by a handful of chefs, but it was just two of them back there. Unreal. The wine list was short but impressive. A well-thought-out selection of whites and reds that pair perfectly with each menu item. I tend to judge a restaurant based on their wine selection and Atlantic Bistro did not disappoint. I went with a glass of Sancerre to go with the chicken and it was perfect. Though I've only been back twice since my first visit, Atlantic Bistro is easily one of the best restaurants in Massachusetts and a true gem in the midst of fried clams and cheap seafood.
