Today we were on a mission to make Christmas magical for the kids! We went all over the area and headed over to Fremont to see Santa for a quick visit then lunch at The Garrison. The lunch was fabulous. My first time with the kids and my boyfriend's been many times. French onion soup was wonderful. It was decorated simple and classic for the holidays. Service was great! The food here is excellent and the space itself is really warm and charming. It's the kind of place you want to love. Unfortunately the service felt very indifferent during our visit. Wednesday night my family and I had dinner at The Garrison in Fremont, Ohio, and it turned into one of those moments we'll never forget. I was wearing my Vietnam Veterans hat, and during our meal someone very kindly paid for our dinner. We never found out who it was, but their generosity meant a lot to us. The food and service at The Garrison were great, but what really stood out tonight was the kindness of a stranger. There is a bartender, Leslie, that makes visiting the bar well worthwhile. Her drinks are always perfection, and her personality is welcoming. Every Friday evening, I bring 6 friends there for dinner and appetizers. It has become our Friday to go. We especially loved the Oct. Wagyu steak special; hope it is brought back soon. The three of us ordered four starters and each had a couple adult beverages at lunchtime on a Friday and they were all delicious. The pulled pork nachos, Brussels, pork schnitzel and kraut balls were all delish and I always love an espresso martini. Our waitress, Sarah, was helpful with recommendations, checked in more than enough, we never had an empty glass, and she was a lot of fun. I'm all about the vibe when looking for a place to eat. I loved the old exposed brick inside and the lighting. The upstairs was equally chill and there was a huge back beer garden patio. Definitely recommend and we will be back soon. read more

We were here off hours on a beautiful Friday afternoon. Patio was lovely. Server was attentive. I had a grilled salmon salad that was simple, very fresh and tasty. The salmon was cooked perfectly. My husband had the roast beef sandwich. He's picky, and he was happy with it. His portion was very generous, so he's looking forward to his leftovers. Had lunch here this week with a group of five traveling on business. A couple of our group had been here previously, but this was my first time. Upon entering, we were greeted immediately and taken to our table. Extremely friendly hostess is always a good start. we did have an appetizer which were a sort of homemade tater tot. That was very good. Ended up getting a half fish sandwich with a cup of chili. Just right for lunch. I did see someone get the four fish sandwich plate and it was huge. we had several various items on the table that were selected and everyone enjoyed their meal. The club sandwich is very large and will fill you up for sure. I can tell they have a good drink selection for evening and dinner, or even the weekends. They do have an outside patio, which would also be welcoming during the warmer months. I will definitely come back when in the area. read more

A family gathering brought us to a central location and we agreed to give The Garrison a try. Due to high ceilings and open foyer, it did get noisy in a hurry. Food selection and pricing was decent. Our server seemed to get lost from time to time, did seem flustered when she did make it to us, and forgot to bring items to the table. Sadly, the desserts were less than to be desired. Having been to The Garrison many times, as it has been a favorite for meeting friends, after tonight I will not return. Although the service was not good, I'm giving our server a break and assume it was because they were busy. It was the fact that my elderly mother (95 years old) called me during dinner, I went in to the empty upstairs meeting room (adjacent to our table) to take the call where I could hear. While I was attempting to speak to my mom, servers came in the room to start cleaning the tables off. At the same time, I was ordered to leave the room by another woman server. As I attempted to tell her I was only going to be a minute, she again told me to get out. I hung up the phone, and being shocked and upset about being treated that way, called to my husband from the doorway of the room, at which time she again yelled at both myself and my husband to leave the room. She also stated that the only thing between the room and patrons entering the room was us! I walked downstairs to go outside to call my mom back, and as they told me at the exit to have a good night, I explained to the two young ladies and a gentleman standing at the exit, that I was not having a good night, and asked for a manager. As one of the girls shook her head no, the gentleman asked what I needed. When I asked him if he was the manager, his response, "why do you think I asked what you needed?" When I told him what happened he said she had an attitude, and he would talk to her. And that's it. No apology. Nothing. When I recommended to our four friends who accompanied us to go to The Garrison for dinner, they were happy to try it. Disrespecting patrons in your facility is not a way to bring back return business. read more

I searched for fine dining in the Fremont, Ohio area, and the Garrison showed up. We went and walked in to a pub. NOT fine dining. Hard tables and chairs. No tablecloths or cloth napkins. Loud/noisy pub. The menu was mostly pub/fried foods. The brisket dinner was sold out--and it wasn't even 5:00 yet on a Saturday. I will say that the food was mostly tasty. However, I wanted to substitute out some sides for a healthier option, and I was told "there is a $2 charge for every side you switch out." Are you kidding me? So if I wanted to switch my two sides, my dinner was going to cost $4 more? We almost walked out. The sides are (I'm sure) right next to each other in the kitchen. I have never heard of such terrible rule. There were no premium sides. So I was just looking for a different option from the regular sides that were listed. Suffice it to say we would never return--based on that rule alone. Our waitress was not the most "present" either, making us long for the waitress at the table next to us. What should have been a lovely Saturday evening out was marred pretty heavily. read more

Visited about 5:30 on a Saturday night, fairly full with a large group in the party room. Very nice ambiance. We were seated upstairs near the bar, and overall, comfortable atmosphere. Terrific selection of microbrews on tap. Had Ohio Weather, a port, which I enjoyed very much. Our server was attentive, but busy. Food was SLOW coming out of the kitchen, and we ordered before the large group. Had the sauerkraut puffs (appetizer), though couldn't taste the sauerkraut in them. Somewhat of a disappointment, and the sauce they were served with was meh. Ordered the prime rib special, and was somewhat disappointed here as well. The house salad was nice, but very small. The prime rib was largely either crunchy-burned or fat. Significantly overcooked from the med-rare I requested as well. Less than half of the prime rib was edible. It was recommended that I get the chef's special seasoning on it, but didn't like it. Pretty sure it was just way too much Lowrey's season salt, yuck. The 'horseradish sauce' appeared to be just a side of sour cream. (Would have asked again for horse radish sauce, but had waited sufficiently long enough for dinner, and it wasn't worth it to wait again IMO). Sadly, the au jus was the best part of the dish. My son had a burger and house-made chips which he enjoyed. He chided me for being too picky, though for that price point, I expected something edible. Overall, a decent place for a microbrew and upscale bar food. Would probably give it another go if we find ourselves in the area, though would lower my expectation, and stick to burgers. read more

I ordered the Sirloin Salad. This came with about 4 oz of steak, cooked to order. I would've probably chose something else if I knew there was such little steak. The candied pecans were really good and added a sweeter profile to the savory steak. The crispy onions were awesome too! The service was pretty slow, but they were nice. Food was decent, but the service was awful. We had reservations. We are taken to our table and it not clean. So the hostess leaves us at the table and says be right back we need to clean this table. We finally get seated and we wait, finally a waitress comes over and says did anybody pick ur table up yet. Nope....ok so I guess I will. We order and place our entire order because it's been so long. Drinks come amazing Summer Breeze drink. Then we wait and typically doesn't your soup and salad come before the entree? Here they bring it all at once. After reminding them that they forgot my wife's soup they looked at me , like I was crazy . Then they comeback all apologetic saying it never got put in on the ticket so the added it. No offer to comp or anything.
