I stopped in the deli for a tri tip sandwich, there was 2 people who were waiting, and when their orders were ready, they grabbed their food and left, so i walked up to the counter, and the asian guy had said that there was 2 people ahead of me, as he was moving something around, so i was like okay.. Then a elderly woman which gave me the impression that she worked there or something because she was waiting on asian guy for medication bottles to give him , she asked Bob , who was wrapping tri tip.. She asked how his day was going, and he stated that its been busy and he stated " we been getting our asses handed to us, and haven't been able to get the day started" so he finally asked me for my order and i asked if the Tri tip sandwich was sliced thin, or shredded, he said rudely that it was sliced" said it like i was supposed to know, first time here, so i said okay.. He handed me a paper, so i waited a few minutes and he approached the counter i was Ready to pay and he was like, "You haven't paid yet" I explained to him that i wasnt instructed on how to pay, he rudely again says to pay cashier, Thats when I finally had enough of Bobs service, and told him his customer service was a BIG ZERO.. And since the minute i approched the deli its been horrible, I told him i waa going to Yelp this experience, i asked for his name, and told him tonight i was going to rate my experience.. And i told him as i set the sandwich back on the counter, Thats when he threw the sandwich... Everyone was like whats going on, he took off hiding while cashier and Asian guy were apologizing, i spoke with angela in management with a ph call, She did handle the situation in a Huge professional manner.. She also sent me 2 free Sandwiches on a gift card.. I definitely will go back.. But hopefully it doesn't get sideways again... read more

I had heard of this place for years, but I had only been here to buy fruits & vegetables. This time we were there to check out the restaurant. It was rather busy, but our wait wasn't too long. We had an excellent waitress. We had the prime rib. I visited the salad bar & ordered the largest prime rib. It was cooked medium rare to perfection. It was almond too large, but I polished it off. We'll return. read more

The food was disgusting. After coming here multiple times and it being good, then looking forward to coming for a great meal and getting absolute garbage in return, was a big disappointment. My father ordered a glass of milk and it was ROTTEN AND CHUNKY. I got a peppercorn steak as did my sister, and the peppercorn sauce was expired or just made completely wrong because it was disgusting. After my father getting the rotten milk it made all of us sick. Absolutely disgusting, won't ever be going back. My serving of steak was badly displayed on the plate as well. It was so gross. The salad bar also tasted like it had been sitting for days.. as it tasted like vinegar and mush. read more

Food was really good, but the staff rubbed me the wrong way. When I entered the restaurant with my family I was not greeted nor was I able to give my party's name or size for the wait list. The employee behind the counter looked at me ignored my request to add my name to the wait list and instead addressed the 2 parties following me into the restaurant and took their information for the list. I waited for another 10 minutes before she greeted me and took my information. read more

We love the Fruit Yard Restaurant. I should say we love their salad bar. Lots of choices at the salad bar. We usually order sandwiches and add the salad bar. French dip, club, prime rib sammich, tri-tip just to name a few. They have decent dinners too! We want to try their seafood buffet and their brunch after all this covid bullshit is over. read more

This is one of those I should have known better instances. I took my Valentine to The Fruit Yard for the Valentines Day Buffet without a reservation. The wait to be seated was 45 minutes. We were seated in a small upstairs dining room and the buffet was downstairs. The remainder of the meal was excellent. Most buffets are loaded with low cost food, to fill you up, and a few really good items. Everything in this buffet was very good with very little cheap stuff. Let's see if I can remember everything we ate: pineapple, cantaloupe, peel and eat shrimp, lamb chops, beef medallions, stuffed chicken, turkey, prime rib, and a dessert bar to die for. I made three trips to the dessert bar because everything looked and tasted so good. I did not avoid the salad bar but that was because I started with main dishes. I did avoid the crab because I did not want to work that had for my food. We will return to The Fruit Yard for the Tuesday Buffet before heading over to John Thurmond Field to catch a minor league baseball game. read more

First trip to this restaurant. We were very satisfied with our dinner. Huge portions and great salad bar!

I'm updating my review Girlfriend and I went in on Sunday November 26th 2017 We had the Salad bar and all you can eat beef ribs Everything was good service was good. I'm just seeing a kind of a trend I think it's kind a hit and miss on the food sometimes that being said I'm going to update my review and give them three stars. This was our third time trying the fruit yard My mom told me it's gotten better so we all went last night and it was the worst food I've ever had the potato seem like they came from a box The steak was tough and the shrimp look like it was frozen from a bag and tasted like it the only thing that was OK what is their salad bar. On top of the bad food the service was the worst I've ever seen it took us forever to get served and there was not that many people in the restaurant.I will never go back I don't even know why we tried the place again read more

Food was horrible no flavor at all so bland also the service was just horrible ambiance everything was just horrible and disgusted

The Fruit Yard Market is one of the best country fruit stand, convenience stores, gas station in the area has been around forever. Love the country feel of the place with roosters walking around like they own the place! The Fruit Yard restaurant next to it needs it's own great review. Great place to eat! read more

Easter Brunch Review I'm giving them a solid 4 Just a little more effort they could easily be A five. Had never been here before nor ever heard of it It's a rustic older restaurant are server had a little attitude not sure why. Selection of buffet was large just about anything you can think of including carving station and omelette bar. Seafood bar fresh crab but they didn't crack it Jumbo shrimp not peeled Dessert bar actually was poor Overall you get a lot of selection for $40 More food than you could possibly eat. read more

We had a late lunch early dinner there today, 12/29/22. Our food was very good, but the customer service has a lot to be desired. We had to wait to be seated while the waitresses were chatting at the counter. When we were seated it was another 15 min before she came back to take our order. When she dropped our food, she was polite but seemed distracted. The reason for this review is that they were very slow in seating people, they made people wait at the cash register so they could pay their bills and the worst part was the phone would ring and ring and ring and nobody answered it. That is very annoying to customers that have to listen to it ringing. They really need to work on the customer service. read more

Our Thanksgiving was small this year and we decided to bypass the cooking and clean up. We did make a reservation, and am I glad we did! There were many people waiting and it was about 15 minutes past our reservation time (not bad at all considering the number of people waiting) when we were seated. I'm not a buffet person but I've been here before. I wasn't really sure what to expect. All I can say is...WOW! There was a carving station for prime rib, coconut shrimp, leg of lamb, stuffed chicken breast, crab legs, a peppercorn steak dish...oh, and of course turkey! Each dish had all the fixings like candied yams, stuffing, potatoes and green beans...mint jelly for the lamb and horseradish for the prime rib...you name it, it was there. Not to mention the amazing salad bar and a dessert table. I just can't say enough - I highly recommend and will absolutely do it again! read more

Came here to meet up with old friends and their families. We were seated fairly quickly. We came to enjoy the brunch. I was a bit disappointed by the lack of regular scrambled eggs but the omelette made up for the lack of regular scrambled eggs. My daughter and son like scrambled eggs. The issue was only one person making omelettes using only one pan and one burner. The line can get backed up. I did like the fried chicken. The French toast sticks, well not so great. My friend didn't like his food but he can talk about it through his own Yelp. Overall the food was ok. I can see myself returning but not anytime soon. read more

POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE COMES STANDARD!!! If I were lucky enough to only review the food, I'd give it 3 stars. It's not bad, but it's not anything special. The BIG problem is the management and it appears that most of the other 1 star reviews have had the same experience. My family has been out many times for the brunch buffet. It's normally $25 and nearly worth the price. We called ahead to ask if reservations were available for Father's Day and we were told that due to customer volume, it was first come first serve. Having worked in a restaurant for 5 years, this is not surprising. I made sure to ask if they were offering Father's Day special or any changes to the menu. I was told everything was operating as normal, it was just going to be busy. We showed up on Fathers Day to a packed house. We were told if we would like to sit up stairs, it would be just a few minutes. We were seated an hour later. We were annoyed but shrugged it off due to how busy they were. We ate our meal with no major complaints about the food but then we got the bill. Since we had been told on the phone the day before there were no changes, we were astounded when the price came out to $45 per person instead of $25. For a table of 5, this is a considerable difference! We waited to speak with the manager about the surprise bill. He let us know that the price was for the day was listed on their handwritten menu board in the lobby. This is the same lobby that had 40+ people waiting and completely obstructing the menu board. I let him know that I called the day before and was told that there were no changes to the brunch buffet. He said that if that were the case, I had to have been given incorrect information. I asked why they didn't use table top notifications like other restaurants and he said that the hostesses and servers would were supposed to tell every party about the price change. SPOILER ALERT: No one ever told us anything. The managers reaction to the justified grievance we had with their business practices was "we can address that at our next management meeting." I don't think this will happen for a second. Other people have lodged this SAME EXACT COMPLAINT from Mother's Day and Easter this year. This tells me there has been a change in ownership or management and that they simply don't care. Customers are only numbers. As a result, I will never do business with the fruit yard again. I will not attend events, get gas, or dine at their establishment. I would be willing to amend this post if a member of management would like to contact me with the results of their "management meeting" and the solution that was formulated to insure that future customers won't be lied to, taken advantage of, or legally robbed blind! read more

Can I not leave zero stars? That is too bad! The ribs I ordered tasted like warm wet poop. I've never tasted poop, but would think that is what it would taste like. Quick question.... if the waitress comes to bring your bill and looks at your barely touched food and asks if you need a to go box.... and you say no. Should her response be... A. Ok. Then walk away. B. Was there something wrong with your meal? C. Can I get you something instead of the poop? Drive the extra 10 minutes and goto 7 eleven. Horrible!!!! read more

I haven't been shocked by restaurant staff in a very long time. I have been wanting to write about this place for a while but have had a lot of activities going on this summer, which is more important than this but I must review. My husband and I decided to escape for a few hours on Father's Day without the kids and try this place out. Of course, knowing it's been around for years and driving by so many times, he decided to finally try it out. When we walked in, we were semi-greeted, which I brushed off. The wait time wasn't too bad for the occasion. Only about 20 minutes. During the time we waited, I overheard an elderly couple talk to the host (manager I presume) about their special and the man told them there was a $50 Father's Day brunch, which was never mentioned to us. Brushed it off, hoping MAYBE our waitress would mention it to us. We finally got called and were taken to a two seater booth close to the salad bar. I loved how it had the divider that made it a little more intimate. As our waitress came up the steps (about a minute later), I accidentally dropped my fork, which she kindly insisted on picking up for me but instead of taking it away and replacing it with a new one she placed it back on the table right next to me where it originally was. I was shocked and grossed out but said nothing. I continued to watch her and let her do her job as she asked us what drinks we wanted. I asked her what type of cocktails they had and she said she didn't know of any they didn't have cocktails. As this was being said I thought both things that just happened were very odd but went ahead and just asked for a water and my husband asked for a Sprite. As we waited for the drinks and picked up the menus on the side of the table, I noticed a smaller cocktail menu (typical) with a whole list of ales, wines, and guess what? Cocktails! Did the waitress at least mention to look at the cocktail list? Did she mention any Father's Day special? Any special at all? Absolutely not! I showed my husband the menu and we talked about what just happened and just stared at each other. We were in shock. Before the waitress could return to our table with our drinks, we very gladly walked out. I haven't been this disappointed with customer service in a very long time. I'm at awe that there are restaurants that actually really treat people this way. But guess what? I've said it before and I'll say it again. You treat me and my family like this when we go out to spend money on your restaurant, you better bet I'll be Yelping you!! (Funny, huh?) In all seriousness, a restaurant isn't successful for its food it makes but how they treat their customers. read more

Fruit yard is the best place to eat I. All of the Modesto area. A classic, and always perfect.

Service is usually pretty good. Food is probably equivalent to an Outback or Urban Eats. Salad bar is top notch.

Pretty disappointing visit.... This used to be a very dependable place to eat, with great food AND service!! We came here today to celebrate my boyfriend's 50th birthday, expecting the usual great prime rib and great service that used to be the norm here when Theresa was the manager. INSTEAD, we weren't served any bread/butter at all, our water glasses were left dry for about 20 minutes, and our prime rib was more fat than rib :'( Notice that there's no condensation whatsoever on our glasses in the pic. And the fat in the pic almost equaled the amount of edible meat from his prime rib. When we complained to the manager (about lack of fluid only, because he rudely halted any further comments), he acted pretty upset, like we had the audacity to be thirsty. I believe we'll head to Marie Callender's from now on for the old-fashioned hometown diner food and ambience. read more

This is for the Deli/Store. This is my go to place, never disappointed, worth the wait, great and fun to check out while you're waiting. That was until Saturday 02/26/2022. The prices don't surprise me it's cool. Because I know my stuff is the Prize. I ordered my usual, full rack of baby back ribs, just falls off the bone. Red flag#1 it was in an aluminum catering pan. Ok... Red flag#2 the ribs weren't cut right. Ok..... Red flag#3 they didn't fall off the bone. Conclusion,,,,,,,,,, they're not the ribs I ordered........ I ordered Baby Back ribs, and got spare ribs. Big difference, big "DISAPPOINTMENT". BUT everything deserves a second chance. Just remember, when in doubt, check it out read more

Came here for the Father's Day buffet.... while the food was great, we were unaware that on holidays the price is DOUBLED!!! We were not notified upon making our reservation, and didn't find out until our almost THREE HUNDRED dollar check was brought to our table. Once we asked the manager about the price difference, he pointed to a small sign that had the pice adjustment that was blocked by a crowd of guests waiting to be seated. I am especially frustrated by this, because there was absolutely no difference in the food that was served today than when the buffet is regular priced. read more

We paid $200 for tickets and the venue sucks ass..folding chairs and porta potties..I will never be back! I hate being lied to. read more

Excellent service. Our server (from Idaho) was attentive, polite and personable. The salad bar was fresh and reasonably stocked. Nothing bad nor outstanding. We ordered calamari and wings as appetizers. Squid was ordinary and rather forgettable--we make better at home. The wings were LARGE, very dark brown (burnt), super spicy (hot, hot, hot), and a little red in the middle. Dinner included prime rib which was thin and rather bland. Macaroni and cheese with crab dish was not a great marriage. Salmon was frozen, dry and bland, as well. In each case, my beloved makes a far better version at home, which negates the main reason for going out in the first place. If your home cooking is weak and the portions small, you'll enjoy the Fruityard. However, if you eat out often or someone at home knows their way around a kitchen, you may be disappointed. read more

We came here 6/11 for my sons birthday 3 of us had buffet it was very good marinated crab NY steak the best Garlic mashed potatoes a full salad bar a full dessert area and plenty of other options that Is why I gave the 3 stars how ever the other 3 in our party ordered off the menu 2 had chicken Alfredo and 1 had the captains platter it comes with shrimp cod calamari & scallops when my son bit in the scallop it squirted liquid in his mouth so I flagged down a waitress and she said it was just hot oil but you could clearly see it was not so the assistant Manager comes over and I show it to her she agrees under cooked as we are talking the same waitress walks by and says it is just hot oil as she is passing by I think that was so unprofessional what away to keep it classy lady they did how ever remake that portion of my sons meal the wait staff barely refilled our drinks and barely took our buffet plates away the wait time was about 20 mins so not that bad my over all review is about 7 out of 10 so we would come back for the buffet but not from the menu read more

Great Place To Stop Going South To Yosemite We stopped here on the way to the Modesto area, and had never been there before. Been a Modesto resident for 15 years , my first time here . This place was "alright", i ordered the pulled pork with fries and the rest of my family ordered the lunch express . Prices aren't overpriced , your average priced menu if you will , but i enjoyed the pulled pork , the bread wasn't to fresh or good tasting in my experience. The salad bar was great and pretty for the eye, but there aren't choices for soups only the one soup of the day . The place itself is homey and built like a cabin. The servers and host are professional and are quick to deliver , the service was absolutely fine . Aside from food the fruit yard is deforested finely with a memorable pond with fountain spouts, along with ducks . I would recommend it for a family function, all in all i would return for a second visit . read more
