One of the best dining experiences we have had. Not our first time here and it is always good. The wait staff is very friendly & helpful. The food was all delicious. Everything! We get to ride the ferry from Illinois to get there which is fun also. We need to go more often!

Nasty frozen fish batter falling off overcooked more like fish jerky

Just yuck yuck yuck Gave them a second try since I didn't have fish 3 years ago when I tried this place. We had a craving for fish and our favorite place is only open on the weekends so we were starving and excited for the full fish dinner. If you love fish , you won't love this frozen crap. The batter has no flavor and was falling off every time you picked it up. The fish was so over cooked it was like jerky. The fried okra was super greasy and the slaw had hardly any dressing and no flavor. Hushpuppies which are a favorite of mine we're greasy outside and gummy inside. Save your money and your love of fish for a place more deserving We hated it and were starving

The Front Porch was perfect for this evening as my friend and I were on our own. The waitress was very pleasant. Small, quaint place with a good variety on the menu to choose from. I had the country fried steak and she had the ham- there was so much we had to take some home.

We have a place in Cadiz and it was a great day trip for us. Food was good, the location easy and frankly the people are what made it.

They forgot my hush puppies. Beans were not cooked through. They were crunchy in the middle.

Somethings you need to know about Marion Pit BBQ are: Southern Living magazine did a feature on them. They are primary drive-thru but have benches and tables outside to eat on. They do ribs on Wednesday and Saturday and chicken on Sunday and Thursday. But you are going to want the pulled pork because it was a-ma-zing! It was tender, juicy, and seasoned well. I'm so glad I doubled the meat! There are two sauces - a mild and hot. They remind me a lot of Sonny's Mild and Smokin BBQ sauce except with the made fresh aspect. I would rank the Hot as a 6 or 7 on a heat scale. My sides were potato salad and Mac and cheese. The potato salad is a mustard style and had celery in it. The mac ancl cheese was solid. The one thing I wish they would do would be offer fresh-brewed sweet tea. I remembered Marion currently has a water crisis so maybe brewing sweet tea is out of the question. They do have bottled drinks. The pulled pork and sauce alone make Marion Pit a 5 for me

We had been here over the summer, and stopped by with our daughter to share the experience. Service is always good, and some of the food is great. It seemed like the 1 inch porkchop was not as good as the gigantic one I had last time, but I coykd be crazy. My husband woukd say I was crazy, so there is that. My daughter loved her fish. The mashed potatoes with white gravy were so good, I ate those first. Hubby asked for a garden salad with salmon. He got a spinach salad with salmon. Our server brought it out and offered to have it remade, but the salad looked wonderful and he really enjoyed it. Kudos to the chef for standing his ground haha. We were too full for dessert. Highly recommend, for the experience and the cute period clothing. Get reservations though! We have to wait over an hour on our first visit. We made reservations the 2nd time and we're seated within 10 minutes.

I'm finally having a chance to review our visits to Freight House back in November!…read more My husband and I took a little trip to Paducah, and the main reason we chose this location for our vacation was Sara Bradley's restaurant Freight House. We both are fans of "Top Chef" and since her restaurant is within reasonable distance of home, we planned a trip around it. In fact, we made reservations for two nights in a row, to take in as much of the menu as possible! Between the two different days, we tried a number of appetizers, entrees and desserts. If I were to do this again the same way, I would do one day of apps and dessert and one day of entrees, just to spread things out a bit. What we ate: - Fall pickles: I enjoyed this, with the bit of chili heat, especially the cauliflower - Stuffed Mushrooms: I love mushrooms, and these blended creamy, sweet and hot with a filling of cream cheese, berry BBQ sauce and smoked jalapeno - Pistachio and herb chevre cheeseball: a fresh cheese enhanced by nutty and Herby notes - Smoked bologna: my husband's choice; very meaty and there was a lot of it - Spicy beer cheese spread: a very Midwestern feeling appetizer with tasty veggies and crackers Entrees: -Shrimp and grits: my choice: comforting southern food with lots of flavor - Duck fried rice: his choice: rich rice offset by more delicate vegetables - Sticky ribs: my choice: the pumpkin spice and coffee liqueur glaze worked well for a cozy, wintry meal - Braised pork shoulder: his choice; served with beans and cornbread, this was another hearty, comforting meal with a Southern twist. Desserts: - Winter creme brulee: this was my favorite, flavored with mulling spices, orange and pomegranate We also enjoyed a seasonal sorbet and the fall spice cake. We had the same server both nights, Elizabeth, who was good at making recommendations, and also staggering the small plates on our small table so we wouldn't be overloaded. Chef Sara was in house the second night, bringing dishes to tables. The setting is relaxed, not overly loud, with moody lighting. Overall, we would certainly return to Freight House!
