It's literally a stone's throw from Haub's Steakhouse where I've been many times over the past 40 years. My in-laws have been bragging on this place the past couple of years, even saying it is better than the legendary Log Inn located a few miles south. Since the Log Inn is #1 on my list of places to enjoy family-style fried chicken, my wife and I had to check this place out to compare. We had a reservation for 8 and were seated in the cozy stand alone room just inside the entrance to the left. We were greeted by our server Micah who had a wonderful smile and very warm welcome (Midwest, small town, charm). She was friendly, eager to serve, and a great promoter of the place. Having called ahead and notified we were having family-style, our food arrived within 10 minutes of our arrival. We enjoyed the pepper Jack nuggets as our appetizer and they were very tasty. The fried chicken was cooked to perfection with a crispy skin coating. The mashed potatoes and milk gravy were very good as well. We enjoyed corn and green beans as our vegetables and the vinegar Cole slaw was a nice complement to the meal. Giant glasses of sweat tea completed the meal! There's no question we will return again in the future, but feel the Log Inn is a cut above in comparison. In fairness, we have many fond memories of family gatherings and celebrations over the years at the Log Inn and it's a staple when we come to town. Don't sell the Carriage Inn short however. It's history is rich and food is delicious.

The staff could not have been friendlier, the perfect example of southern hospitality! As far as the food... Incredible! It was a tough choice, but my guest and I both ordered the pork chop. Mine the 2 inch and his the 1 inch. These were unique in the best possible way, like a cross between smoked ham and pork chop, likely from their cooking process which I can only ASSUME involves a slow low temp smoke then a quick grill when ordered. Different, but also uniquely delicious. The sides were heavenly. I had the home made white mac and cheese and fries, and my guest had the loaded sweet potato and a salad. As far as appetizer, we received the free fresh bread loaf with sweet STRAWBERRY butter, as well as an order of loaded potato skins that were among the best I've had in recent memory. ...And all of this at an incredible price. I honestly don't know how they do it. Prices for the food we received were more like the early 2000's. Everything you see listed above plus soda/tea drinks was only about $48 with tax (pre tip). So not only was it an incredible meal with top notch service, but the price was about half of what you pay for the same quantity of food in a more populated or touristy area. Bottom line... The Red onion is a fantastic stop if your in the area and I would argue is well worth the drive if your not. They have top notch hospitality and a vast DELICIOUS menu with incredible prices to boot. I simply cannot wait to visit again and explore the menu further. Great Job!

We had been here over the summer, and stopped by with our daughter to share the experience. Service is always good, and some of the food is great. It seemed like the 1 inch porkchop was not as good as the gigantic one I had last time, but I coykd be crazy. My husband woukd say I was crazy, so there is that. My daughter loved her fish. The mashed potatoes with white gravy were so good, I ate those first. Hubby asked for a garden salad with salmon. He got a spinach salad with salmon. Our server brought it out and offered to have it remade, but the salad looked wonderful and he really enjoyed it. Kudos to the chef for standing his ground haha. We were too full for dessert. Highly recommend, for the experience and the cute period clothing. Get reservations though! We have to wait over an hour on our first visit. We made reservations the 2nd time and we're seated within 10 minutes.
