I went semi-light with the chuckwagon salad this past time and it was really good. You can't get a chuckwagon everywhere these days, so it is a nice addition to the menu. For the salad they take what is presumably the same patty they use for the chuckwagon sandwich but slices it into strips and top a full house salad with it, your choice of dressing. We stood at the counter for about 10 minutes, even called out toward the kitchen, but no one ever came out. As we were leaving, we spoke with a gentleman outside, and I noticed another customer go in. Over the 20 minutes we stood there talking, that person was still at the counter as well. I don't know if they had been helped already or not, so I don't want to assume, but from what I saw, there didn't seem to be any staff present. After arriving, I was told they couldn't make one because everything had already been put away. There are plenty of fried food options available, which is great if that's what you want. But for those of us who can't eat fried foods or simply prefer the meat and vegetable plates, it's disappointing to make the trip only to find out they won't prepare what's advertised on the menu. It gives the impression that the staff simply doesn't want to take the time to make those meals that late in the evening. This has happened on multiple occasions, so it doesn't seem like a one-time issue. If the meat and vegetable plates are regularly unavailable before 8:00 p.m., then the restaurant should either update its advertised hours and online ordering or continue serving them until the posted closing time. I watched as they pulled the pre-portioned balls of hamburger from the refrigerator, smack it on the counter, smash it with the spatula, then slap it on the grill. The burger was classic - fresh, good tasting, hot off the grill, greasy goodness dressed to your preference. The chili cheese fries were not exactly as expected since I could see a warmer labeled "cheese sauce". Instead the freshly cooked, small batch of fries were covered in a layer of American cheese slices, then chili, then sprinkled with shredded cheddar. They tasted good, but the burger was definitely the star of the show. The staff were attentive but not super-friendly. No smiles and no chit-chat...these ladies were all business. I definitely recommend this and look forward to returning in the future.
