So disappointing. I've been putting off a review, waiting for things to get better but . . . after 12'ish years of regular shopping here, today is marking the end of my tolerance for consistently slipping service, questionable inventory and overall sadness on the shelves. It didn't used to be this way but the past four or five months the shopping experience here has been steadily declining. Today at noon'ish, the hot foods counter was bare. Absolutely nothing in the trays. The cold foods were full but- tired looking. I no longer get anything from the prepared foods anyway, as I was on the losing end of an interrogation about potato salad last month (. . . and exactly why is it orange?) that was never going to provide an answer from the uninformed employee. Today, I did get prepared chicken salad this trip as it's delicious when it's made to their original recipe (rotisserie chicken, mayo, celery) but not so much when the chef skips the mayo. And celery. It looks like it has everything in it this time, so I'm hoping. Today in Produce, I did find two tomatoes on the vine. Not the delicious, locally-grown ones I found in here last week, but beggars can't be choosers, so I grabbed the last ones. Last week it was scallions. No scallions- why? That day, the helpful employee didn't deny it was odd, he just shrugged and said, "Maybe in a couple of days?". I could maybe excuse the empty shelves and the clueless employees except for the cashiers who know better than the customer. Today was the third visit I asked the employee conducting a painfully slow checkout process not to squash everything in my order into only one of my shopping bags but . . . nah, he knew best. so all went in one bag. Then he backed the cart out of his way into the line of people waiting patiently behind me, (insted of pulling it forward) saying, "You want your cart?" Why do I want that cart? I'm happy to put it back in the cart line without you running some poor woman's foot over with it, but sure, I'll drag the cart around the counter and through the line because I'm standing at the end of the counter emptying half of what's in one of my bags and filling the second bag with it anyways, so . . . I started shopping at TFM for the quality, the variety of unusual items and the pleasant employees who were helpful, doing a job, and trying to do it well. No clue what's happening, but I can't annoy myself here any more. But now I have to find Malted Milk Balls somewhere that even come close to TFM ones, and that's not gonna happen anytime soon! read more

I drive almost an hour to get to this market because they carry a specific item that I want. The staff is so kind and professional and are always willing to help me carry very heavy boxes to my car! A stock boy named Mike was exceptionally kind and helpful. A few months ago , another very kind gentleman helped me carry heavy boxes again. I think his name was John? You do not find good customer service anymore, anywhere these days - so please keep up the good work guys! Markets are a dime a dozen everywhere, but what sets this place apart is the cool selection of items and the warm customer service. I will continue to recommend this place to people :) read more

A while ago, I poked my nose in. It just felt *expensive*, so much so I didn't even do a proper browse. However, a couple days ago my fridge resembled the shelves of bread, eggs, and milk before a nor'easter. Truth be told, I'd actually tried to go to my beloved Trader Joe's, but it was closed on this fine New Year's day. Thus, this fateful day was the one I would give The Fresh Market a second chance. I liked it so much I returned four days later! The Fresh Market has some everyday staples, as well as some speciality and premium/higher end brands and products. They have an impressive bakery as well as meat/seafood department. There is a wide array of cheeses and great assortment of deli salads, sandwiches and heat & eat items. Further, a superb selection of bulk (priced per pound) coffee, nuts (including blends) and candy. All items seemed to be of top freshness and quality. After trying the bacon from their meat department, I may not go back to the prepackaged stuff again! There is also a fair selection of different wines at various price points, a limited selection of liquors, and a cooler with beer. Price-wise, it depends on what you're looking at. Some things aren't *quite* at the Market Basket level, but more-or-less in line with Stop & Shop or Shaws. Other things (I'm looking at you, bulk Jelly Beans) seem like they're a couple bucks over what I'd expect. The store itself is very clean, and all the shelves are stocked nicely. All the staff I've had the pleasure of interacting with have been professional and kind. Finally, the music playing is classical, of all things! Makes you feel fancy so you spend more money? Living in Brookline, Ma, we first started doing our specialty shopping at the Framingham location, but are now having to drive in the other direction to the Hingham location since the Framingham store closed down about 1 year ago. It takes up to an hour on the weekend to get there, but we truly love the tuna steaks and the crab cakes, and it's hard to pass by the bread loaves like the Banana Chocolate Chip or the Lavender Honey without grabbing a couple for dessert. I really appreciate when they offer discounted deals, including those Sushi Grade Tuna Steaks for $10 per pound... Try putting soy sauce on each cut piece of tuna steak, and then add sesame seeds plus Everything But The Bagel from TJ's. Sear the tuna for just a few minutes. We can't get enough of this meal for dinner, and often add the tuna to a blended salad with the tuna on top. Yes, Fresh Market is pretty expensive, but the fish and meat do look better than average! read more

The Store is no longer what it used to be. It used to be a unique experiential market. Now you can get everything they have elsewhere for less money. Recently the store seems understaffed, and the Shelves are not well stocked. It seems they had a Big Turnover recently and a new Manager, and the staff they do have is not well trained. The produce is not as good as it used to be, I have seen rotted product and outdated product on the floor. I used to love to come here to pick up a prepared salad or sandwich and the quality and selections has gone downhill. The other thing I miss is the Meal deals; it seems to be the same over and over again and the quality does not match the price. I would much rather shop at the Trader Joe's, Whole foods and the Fruit center. It is too bad, because there is nothing that sets Fresh Market apart anymore, it has turned into just Another Grocery store. read more

I've been shopping at the fresh market for over 10 years now and only wish they had more locations though am grateful for the location of the only one in the state. The seafood and butcher shop is my favorite feature and what sold me on this market that honestly is not practical for me in terms of necessity grocery items outside of the meat and produce but the quality and prices as well as the friendly staff are more than worth the added trip. It's always fresh and variety is incredible though definitely specific to what is in season at the time, making it a reason for the produce in stock being so fresh and delicious. The deli and cheese collection are also great as well as the bread offerings and prepared meals section which also offers an abundance of options including homemade, comfort foods as well as Italian and Asian offerings ready to cook/eat. The meal deals were often a regular go to depending upon the choice but honestly haven't tried them in several years because of relocating and not shopping there as often for distance reasons. Having shopped there in person recently, I do know they still have them but have also increased in price. The staff is friendly and checking out is usually quick outside of Saturday morning shopping in my experience. The store is quite large and the set up is designed to make sense grouping similar items together opposed to having to travel the entire store to complete your trip. read more

The fresh market is a small selective supermarket. They have end of week meat specials, but you're always good priced quality meats. The rest of the store has the usual groceries but they have an interesting selection of coffees and their produce is very fresh and tasty. I recommend it. read more

Even though I generally buy more things from Trader Joe's and visits here now tend to be window shopping, it's less likely I'll come back for a while. I got a couple of items for purchase and went to check out. I was charged double of what the price was and notified the cashier. The cashier went back to the location where I purchased it and argued that I was wrong. I explained where I got the items but still didn't believe me. I didn't want to get into a shouting match, so I walked away. Even when I bought more items here in the past, this store had a problem with overcharging what the displayed price showed. I would constantly have to tell cashiers that I was overcharged and they would correct it. This past incident was the first time they didn't correct it. Trader Joe's, within a shout from here, can provide what you need and if you need any gourmet products, there are other options around. Not to mention that there are other grocery stores nearby. It's so expensive here and service was getting progressively worse. I went to TJ's right afterward and was greeted quit warmly by an employee in front. On 3/14 I called looking for 2 pieces of the Coconut tower care, I was fortunate enough to have Kevin pick up the phone and check for me, after trying to describe the cake, I said listen I'm traveling from Bourne and my sister is going through treatment and it would make her day to have this cake (only because there were 2 different Coconut cakes) I didn't want the wrong cake. He told me there was one left he'd save and have cut when I got there. When i arrived at the bakery looking for the cake Kevin not only bagged the cake but added a beautiful card wishing her the best from all the employees. This was not expected, it just brought tears to my eyes. I can't thank you enough for your generosity and Thoughtfulness. Unprofessional crazy employee. Within the last week, I've witnessed a woman in produce yelling at the woman who works in floral, in front of customers. This store has gone way down hill. I had planned on buying a lot of food and flower arrangements for an office party, but I'll take my business to Trader Joe's which is in the same shopping area. They say that employees don't leave a job, they leave management. I've seen a lot of employees leave from this store. So based off of this woman acting like she missed her daily psychiatric meds, and the high turnover rate, it seems that employees are being harassed by other employees and management is letting that happen. Or else it's just the management being the problem. I've worked in customer service for 20+ years and I've never witnessed an employee acting like a playground bully to another one. To customers, I suggest Stop and Shop across the street or Trader Joe's if you want but I'll never shop here again. It's a shame, It was a nice store when it first opened but there aren't any other locations in the area. read more

Overpriced, questionable meat and rude employees. Stopped in for a few burgers and was shocked to see all the bacon cheddar patties were extremely brown and didn't look like it was from oxidation. My last visit yesterday was really amazing. Easy parking. First lots of big smiles, well stocked shelves, and clean floors. All employees in clean uniforms. When it came to time to check out Hannah also with a big smile, asked if I found everything, and also if I am a military Veteran. If you complain to Stop & Shop, they issue a credit immediately, AND look into the problem I ordered prosciutto ...@$ 27.00 ./pound. When I went to make our salad that night, I noticed it was green/yellow around the edges, moldy looking black spots, odd scent ....and tasted like spoiled rancid oil. I had to throw it away. I will never , never shop here again. Their veggies are often wilted, there's no one in the store to help you, and things seem less than fresh. This store has been here now for about 18 months or so. It's been a convenient addition to the local food shopping scene particularly for those of us who regularly find ourselves at the Hingham Shipyard. This is a super easy stop after getting off the commuter boat before heading home. Although this store really doesn't as favorably compare to our local market, The Fruit Center, I do find myself coming here more than I originally thought I would when it first opened. While the layout is odd in a circular, non-linear kind of way, causing me to repeat aisles incessantly, I appreciate how relatively uncrowded it is most of the time with virtually no wait at the cashier. Easy in and easy out of stores is often worth higher prices to me and it's one of the reasons I almost always avoid huge supermarkets like Stop and Shop. You have to be a careful shopper since lots of things are pricier than average. However you can also find an array of products that are less than what I'm used to paying at the Fruit Center. One example would be the Mrs. Meyers cleaning products that I love. The dishwashing liquid (I'm a geranium scent fan) is a full dollar less here. When they have sales on produce and fruit, they are often good ones with a nice selection of organic options. You do have to check labels carefully here because despite how lovely everything looks and how often you'll find signs with the word "organic" in them, you could be lulled into a false sense of security about what's actually in some of the other food products. I've been disappointed not to find some things that are standard now in almost any grocery store like at least one brand of peanut butter that is pure peanuts with no sugar. Here, there was nary a jar without it. There is a wine and beer section here with loads of choices. Good sale prices can be found in this area too and change from week to week. I do like the one stop shopping aspect of being able to pick up a few groceries for dinner along with a bottle of wine all in one fell swoop. On weekends, they usually have samples of a couple of featured wines. When this store first opened, you had a tough time taking your own groceries out to your car. They pretty much insisted (in a nice way) that someone had to push the grocery bag filled cart out for you. I really hated this because to me it felt ridiculous to have someone do something that I'm perfectly capable of doing for myself. On top of that most of the time the staff pushing out the carts were quite elderly gentlemen. While I'm sure they were able bodied enough, it just never felt right to me personally to have them to do this for me. I know this is absolutely a great option for some customers however and can appreciate the availability of this service for those who need or want it, but it became a ridiculous point of contention for me to have to so adament that I prefered to do this on my own. Now, they do offer this service as an option and not as a "must do". You will otherwise be left in peace. The cashiers do unload your groceries from the cart for you as they ring things up in the same way they do at Trader Joe's. At the end of the day, Fresh Market is still a chain with stores dotting the east coast, the south, and the mid-west. This place doesn't have the heart nor the local community spirit that the Hingham Fruit Center has, but having said that, I'm glad FM has come to town. Giving our other local markets a little competition is a good thing too. read more

I went into this store this afternoon and got a couple of items. I had never been in this store before but never had the chance to go in there until today. It seemed like a pretty nice store with enough space to carry plenty of items. They have a florist area and a nice deli which were some of the first things I noticed when I entered the store. You can have your deli items gotten for you by the people behind the counter and the people there seemed pretty nice. I noticed that they had a refrigerated case very close to the deli that had some sandwiches that they had made that went for about eight dollars or so. The roast beef sandwiches looked especially delicious and I was very tempted to buy one but I knew I had dinner waiting for me at home and I didn't want to spoil my appetite. I thought about getting one to eat the next day for lunch but I'm kind of picky and I like my sandwiches made the same day so even though the sandwiches were hard to resist I decided against it. Next time I'm there though, I am definitely getting one of those sandwiches. They looked very fresh and the roast beef was cooked rare just the way I like it. They had a self service area with all types of candy bins and you could put together your own bags of bulk candy. I noticed a sign in the area where they had the bags for the candy that said that the different types of candy were all different prices and to please bag each type of candy you are getting individually. Of course they do this so that you don't have all different priced candy in one bag and the checkout process at the register goes smoother. I saw chocolate covered cookies (I believe they were Oreos) there, chocolate covered peanuts with caramel, peanut butter cups and chocolate covered almonds as well among other types of candy they were offering. I ended up with a bag of milk chocolate covered walnuts and also a bag of dark chocolate covered walnuts. Both of these items were ten dollars a pound so I only put very few of each item in each bag. I have tried the milk chocolate ones so far and they are absolutely delicious and have me wanting to return to the store to purchase more of them. They also did have some pre-filled bags next to each bin of candy so you didn't have to be bothered bagging your own and each bag had approximately half a pound in them which made them run for about five bucks per filled bag. The bags are pretty small which I guess could be a good thing in a way. They also have plenty of groceries here and the store did kind of seem almost like a very slightly smaller version of Trader Joe's stores. There were a lot of natural brands of food here and plenty of healthy choices as well as some not so healthy things like the candy I bought LOL! The only thing I did not really like here is that in the florist area the prices were not all clearly marked on the flowers and growing kits and there were no shelf tags on a lot of the items. I may have bought something if the prices were on the items but didn't because there were no prices on the items I was interested in and I didn't want to go to all the trouble of finding someone to get me a price because my time was limited. So next time hopefully they will have it so everything is either marked with a price or there is better signage or some shelf tags. Their produce area seemed pretty decent and well stocked. The help at the front end seemed nice for the most part although the cashier that waited on me seemed a bit harried and stressed out. The store was busy at the time though so I do understand. I will certainly be back for more of the candy, a sandwich and hopefully some items from the florist department next time! read more

**DON'T ORDER HOME DELIVERY** I usually love shopping at the Fresh Market store in Hingham, so I was excited to see them newly available for food delivery via instacart. I ordered delivery last Monday and it did not go well. Many items were out of stock (which I gave a pass because of COVID). The produce was wilted, the fruit was mush after 2 days, the milk expired 4 days later and the deli meat (turkey) was not good. Too many things wrong for one order. Ridiculously expensive ($175) for poor quality. Stick with Whole Foods or Wegman's - they are consistent. read more

Maybe the weekend is not their best day for that The meat case, still very good....they even made up a "meatball mix " for me (ground lamb, pork, and beef) grinding them all fresh, and were very nice about it, After having been there a few times, I have to say I am not a huge fan of the layout of the store...the first step in you are literally right in front of the checkout area, and the open floorplan is a bit crazy when it it busy in there! I'm able to purchase the following: - Gourmet jerky and biltong - Dang Rice Chips - Rombauer Zinfandel - Lillie Q's Hot Pepper Vinegar kettle chips - SUJA cold pressed juice Why I don't totally love Fresh Market! - That list was $60. Granted, the Rombauer was (a very reasonable) $31, but still, this place ain't cheap. Imagine Whole Foods before the Amazon acquisition, and without the no artificial ingredients mandate. I am relatively new to this area. This is the first time I've come to the fresh market so this review is based upon only one experience. I bought just a few things to prepare dinner this evening. Among the things I purchased were spiral cut "zucchini noodles." I brought them home and opened them within hours of purchase to find that they were sour. They smelled bad and were falling apart. I actually turned the package upside down to check the label and see if they were packed in vinegar. They were not. I checked the sell by date (today). They were spoiled when I bought them! I also bought a package of yogurt covered almonds which smelled rancid and were horrible tasting. My impression is that they were stale too. So I'm out $6 for rotten zucchini noodles which I cannot return, and $7 for the almonds which I will try to return tomorrow. Pros: beautiful displays, pretty appearing prepared food in the case, much of the produce looked fresh and of high quality, old fashioned candy in bulk jars, a nice selection of healthy foods Cons: Pricey, selling old or spoiled food (perhaps a few items have slow turnover due to high prices), some items hard to find as aisles don't seem to make much sense. I probably won't come back here much, except for one or two specialty items. Be careful not to buy perishables here. I will update if my return experience is particularly good or bad. read more

Call on Tuesday May 7th to order 3lbs of their filet mignon terriyaki steak tips the meat cutter took my order and say they would be ready on Saturday. Called again on Saturday to make sure they had the order meat cutter again said we have it. Went in Saturday at 5:00pm to pick up my order they were never made. They had no record of my order. Called to see if they carried a certain specialty product and was told they absolutely carry the item I was looking for by a women in the Deli Dept. Well after going there I was told by a Manager that they use to carry that item a while ago but no longer stocked that item. If your looking for something specific dont bother calling them because their employees have no idea what they do or dont have on their shelves. This is called poor management. read more

This market seems like the local version of Whole Foods. Most of the items are definitely on the pricey side, with a few good sales. For example, while most of the cheese prices were on par with Whole Foods, i.e., pricey, we noticed some good deals on Chobani ($1 for the 8 oz container) and their store brand shredded cheeses, a lot of things just seemed really overpriced. The market is really nice and clean and inviting. Also, they sell wine here, which is great considering that the Trader Joe's just across the parking lot doesn't have wine. My main complaint was that there was no express line. I was just buying one cheese but had to wait in a really long line. Let's hope this cheese is worth it. I agree that this is a hybrid between WF and the Fruit Center. I'm not a big fan of the actual lay out. They don't seem to be too keen on creating aisles. The store is set up in a circle. The circle facilitates browsing, but there isn't much order and I found people just kind of wondering around aimlessly. The check out is a little wonky too. I'm sure many parents are going to have it out with their kids as they roll by the candy section in the registers. Some pluses are the ability to by wine, beer and various spirits. They have some great coffees by Counter Culture and Intelligista. It doesn't look like they roast they own bean on site though. I am a big fan of WF, but this is a nice blend of some organic and some conventional and main stream products. I'm not sure if they source some of their fruits, vegetables, meats locally like WF. All in all a good alternative to some other local places. read more

Usually get fish and crab cakes. However I got the pistachio flounder yesterday from the fish counter. I was having friends over for dinner tonight. I was beyond embarrassed when the fish came out smelling like ammonia!! Bad fish Thank God I had some egg rolls in the freezer to substitute. Never again don't think I'll buy fish from there again. What a unique food shopping experience! I agree that this new market seems like a cross between Whole Foods & the Fruit Center. Everything in the store is super fresh and artfully presented. For a second, I felt like I was at a very small Wegman's! The flowers & produce sections are very fresh & colourful. The seafood counter is one of the best I have ever seen, and the meat counter had a wonderful selection of only the best cuts of meat. (I am definitely getting filet mignon from this place!) I also tried the seafood salad at the deli, and it was the best one I have ever had. The seafood was prepared beautifully (shredded, not big chunks), and it was very light on the mayo! I'll be back for that! The only thing that disappointed me here was that they don't have a salad bar. But, if you're in a hurry, they do have a few prepared sandwiches, salads, & sushi at the deli. The pizzas also looked great! Overall, this is a great place to get produce & meat/fish, but you can't do your entire shopping here (which is why I'm giving it 4 stars). You can get everything to make your meal, but you won't find any paper products, or dishwashing liquid, etc... It is strictly a food market. Also remember you won't find any processed foods for the kids here. Instead, they have a great selection of nuts/dried fruits/ trail mixes & candy, and they do sell Coca-Cola products. (The bakery looked good from a distance, but I'm trying to stay away from that section). Another good thing about this store, is they have a great selection of wine! Interestingly, they also have some organic lotions & skin products! Prices are expensive (or normal for Hingham), but you will get what you pay for. Service is friendly. If you are not caucasian the cashiers here make it obvious they dont like you. Ill be third in line and witness the cashier be extremely nice and verbally outgoing with the caucasian customers before me, but when it's my turn it's a whole different story. No hello or how you doing and they dont even tell me what the total is after they ring me up. I make it a point to say hello, how are you and have a nice day to cashiers like this to remind them that I have manners unlike them. They still act like Im some kind of creature that doesnt need to be spoken to. I dont come out here much but this has happened 3x so far. A very nice supermarket that goes for that Whole Foods effect, but I am not sure if they have as many organic and all-natural options or it is more of the chalkboard/wooden sign look. The produce is fresh and good. The meat department has great service and a lot of interesting choices. We were this close to TurDuckIn except it was sold out! They don't usually stock it, but they did during the holidays! Maybe next time... There is a large selection of nuts, mixed nuts, flavored nuts, chocolate/yogurt covered nuts, etc. haha - so if you like nuts mixed with pretzels, etc. this is a great place for you to go - it is all pay by the pound, so buy/try as much as you want! The same goes for a candy "bar" that is pay by the pound as well. There is a good selection of beer/wine as well. If you want a break from Whole Foods or something "Fancier" than Stop & Shop, etc. then check this out. read more
