So I was originally going to Market Basket for a fruit haul but I've always wanted to go to Aldi so when I saw it , you know I had to swing in there and see what it's like. I also wanted to see if they had an air fryer for the low but they didn't have any appliances really. The store is more of an upscale Save-A-Lot, lots of off brand mixed with regular brands. It was very clean and on the smaller side. They didn't have many vegan options but I did get what I came for plus more. It's nice, I may come back for a few select items that I haven't tried yet.

Here's the thing... I've spent some quality time abroad in Europe, with almost 5 months being in Austria (as an exchange student). My visit here reminded me of this adventure. First, let me ask you a question: how do you feel about generic products? If you're like most people, you swear by some brands, but with others don't give a flying fig newton. This store will not have everything you are looking for, this store is a great supplement for your usual grocery, but it is not a replacement. For instance, the generic Doritos are nowhere near the real thing, and I swear by Lea and Perrins Worcestershire sauce. However, there are others where I really couldn't care less. Eggs, milk (which is still fresh after a week and a half), bread crumbs, and other such items. Take the cheese singles (which in fairness I didn't buy), the generic version is 2/3 the cost of the Kraft. In terms of departments, they don't have a meat or deli department, but they do have products typically found in these products, just no one cutting the cheese/meat. It is a similar deal with the bakeshop, they don't bake anything there, but some of the breads they have are amazing! Produce is of excellent quality too. There are some other things of which to be aware: They do not provide any free bags or baggers. There is a counter past the registers (by the window). You can buy bags if you don't have any, but you are expected to bag everything yourself. Carriages have a Euro-lock, which requires a refundable deposit of a quarter to use. Insert the quarter, grab a cart, chain it back, quarter pops out. Store is clean, and people working here are nice! As I've said, this store cannot replace your grocer, but with some trial and error as to generics, you may just save hundreds annually on your grocery bill.

Low stock later in the day. It feels more like a farmers market for the produce. You get what you get.

You can order a deli sandwich to your liking and you can build your own salad at their bountiful salad bar. The salad bar is really nice and is more often than not my main reason for visiting the store. Here you can create your own unique salad with a good variety of salad makings including your basic lettuce, tomatoes and cucumbers plus potato salads, fruits and a great variety of other salad toppings, vegetables and dressings. They have a good hot food bar too with various meat dishes, chicken and so forth plus pasta dishes, potatoes, vegetables and more. You'll also find some nice treats in their bakery area such as muffins and cookies. Their deli carries Boar's Head deli meats which is a very good meat company and their cheeses are excellent as well. If you're looking to buy groceries here they do carry quite a few of the essentials. They have a good sized produce area here as well for your fruits and veggies. It is a busy store but the cashiers keep the lines going at a pretty good clip. The atmosphere is nice and it's always a clean store which makes for a pleasant shopping experience. When I am passing through the area I always make it a point to stop by and see what they have to offer.

From Boston, it's a scenic drive out to Stow. I couldn't stop gushing over the foliage on the way there - I've turned into a total leaf peeper. Carver Hill is absolutely stunning in the fall, definitely worth a trip. Pleasantly surprised to find the lot half-empty when we arrived on the later side of a Saturday but then it filled up by the time we left around 3. To your right, as soon as you drive in, you'll see an area with pumpkins and the farm store - this is also where you get PYO fruit/veggies if you're paying with credit. If you have cash on hand, you can pay for a bag at the little stand right in front of the orchard. A peck (the smaller bag) was $25. I was a little skeptical at the size but it's a good deal if you really pack your apples in there. From there, the apple orchard. Not the biggest I've been to and the selection was understandably limited. We missed the sign to download the QR code for a map of the orchard and so had to rely on a photo of a thin pole with all the names/colors wrapped around it. Don't forget to stop at the store before you leave. I grabbed some pumpkin pie, jam, and an apple cider donut - they also have apple cider slushies and multiple flavors of ice cream. The donut was THE BEST, made fresh, almost falling apart, thick and generous coating of cinnamon and sugar (also tasted nutmeg and allspice in the coating). Absolutely worth waiting in the line for, but make sure to pay first and get a little yellow receipt/tag from the register before you get in line for the donuts.

Tree Berry Farm is near my in-laws, so it was a quick trip down the road. Thankfully, parking is in a grass lot off the main road, and you aren't expect to play Frogger with fast-moving cars on RR 123. There's lots of signage showing you where to park, where to pick up a bucket, and which sections are open for picking. Even at the height of blueberry picking, with lots of families around, there was still plenty of space to spread out, and lots of blueberries to go around! Jamie and I picked for about 15-20 minutes. If you're going to be there longer (i.e., if you have small kids), bring sunscreen and water! You pay at the same place you pick up (and return) your bucket. At $4 a pound, it can't be beat! We got about 2 pints worth of blueberries for that price. And the wonderful thing is, the flavor is far superior to that of the produce department at your local grocery store. They lasted a long time, too! For tourists and locals alike, blueberry picking is a must, and I can't recommend any place other than Tree Berry on the South Shore. It's the most organized and has the best blueberries anywhere!
