Loved the service and the ambiance. Sitting outside on a lovely evening surrounded by mountains was lovely. The food...well...there is always room for improvement. The menu seems to be all over the place. I wouldn't call the cuisine any particular genre since there were items that categorically fall under "Mediterranean" as well as "Asian-fusion". Two things in particular that didn't make sense to me. The tofu on the Mediterranean bowl. Tofu marinated in soy sauce is not what comes to mind when I'm thinking of any country in the Mediterranean. Also, the tasting menu has an option for an entree choice of veal shank. I was informed there would be an upcharge since it's a pricier menu item, which is totally acceptable. What I was not prepared for was a giant cut of meat (it had to have been 10oz or more) with a huge bone still attached. The portion did not fit with a tasting menu. Been here multiple times over the past maybe 7 years. It's my favorite restaurant in WV by far! Location is unbeatable, atmosphere and feel are perfect. Coming here is always a memorable experience. Never very crowded which I appreciate. When it comes to the food, I know when I come here I will taste tastes I've never tasted before haha. It's a real dinning experience. My favorite restaurant in West Virginia, hands down! Why? 1.) Their service is outstanding 2.) The location is outstanding 3.) Their food is outstanding After years of passing by this place and literally driving up to it a couple of times and wanting to go in, I never did. I don't know why. I guess I was saving it for the special night me and my girlfriend had here. It was an epic night in all-regards. It was a fall evening and we had reservations for 6:30 pm. It was a perfect time as the sun was starting to set and the temps were just right but the pole heater made it that much better. We started off with: - Big Timber IPA (me) - Dandelion Martini (gf) - House Bread and Butter (share) - Spread Plate (share) The beer is always my go to at local restaurants because it pairs well with any food. My girlfriend's martini was super tasty and she enjoyed it a lot. FYI: I love when local restaurants support local businesses like Big Timber. Good for you! The bread was freshly baked and I believe the butter is made in house. Very good! The spread plate consisted of three pates to which all were incredible but the smoked trout was our favorite. The cucumber salad and oils and herbs were very flavorful and paired excellent with the crostini's. I could eat this every day. Highly recommended. Our entrees: - Vegetarian Delight (me) - Striped Bass (gf) The vegetarian delight is one of my favorite dishes at any restaurant. It's the perfect mix of flavors and textures in one dish. The dumplings packed a punch of flavors, the soy garlic chili Korean rice omelet was superb, the aji panco miso was flavorful, the rice and vegetable croquets tasted like a little pocket of heaven, the poblano mayo added even more flavor to each bite I took and the jicama salad was excellent. I highly recommend you get this even if you're not vegetarian, it's that good, trust me! My girlfriend's striped bass was cooked to perfection. The tamarind chili sauce it was cook in was the perfect balance with the light flaky texture of the fish. Add the lemon ginger rice to each bite of fish for an umami explosion. Then add on top of that the garlic chips takes this dish over the top to flavor heaven. She loved it and so did I as I finished the remaining portion she couldn't finish. This place has so much to offer in all-regards to the interior and exterior. It's very clean and the staff are top notch. I wish we could have booked a room upstairs the night we ate here though because that would have made our night that much better, but every room was booked. We ended up stayed at a local place right over the hill because we wanted to celebrate and didn't want to drive far. Sadly the place we stayed at was horrible but this place took away from that experience and made us have a beautiful evening regardless. We are looking forward to coming back in the next couple months for a nice fall evening dinner and exploring your menu(possibly the six course tasting menu) and eating a wide variety of your seasonal appetizers, entrees, and deserts and having drinks on the patio to take in that view or in the bar area to enjoy conversation with locals. The Good: Beautiful setting and a great, high-end cabin/woodsy ambiance. Impressive bar. The service was excellent. Most of the food was solid too--well thought out and crafted--definitely a 5-star style. Made great use of local fare between the fish, mushrooms, etc. The Bad: My wife's pasta was undercooked. The portions were very small. For what it's worth, got 2 drinks, a shallow bowl of soup, two tiny egg rolls, and 2 entrees (with tip) for approximately $155.00. Stayed overnight here and had dinner. A unique place for being in Elkins. The motel style rooms are very simple, nothing fancy but have everything you need at very reasonable price. The food overall is quite good. We did the tasting menu. Everything was at least decent, nothing was bad. They have a decent drink menu, well stocked bourbon selection. The service is excellent, they were not completely booked when we were there, but fairly busy and everything was prompt/on time for us. They change the menu which is also nice, our meal is from the Summer 2024 menu, may be worth being aware of if you're looking for something on older reviews. Prime rib roast is a favorite but not often ordered. Our party of 12 ordered 6 this evening and were globally dissapointed. Am thinking we misunderstood when our server described them as having been partially smoked because what arrived at the table was an overly-grilled piece of ribeye. Based on this supposition; smoked then cooked to served, you cannot get anything below a medium-medium well. Charred when served so it's hot but thin cut so cooked through. Was dissappointed so ate half and stopped. Should've ordered a NY Strip which we know starts raw before it hits the grill. The setting was phenomal, so other than avoiding the Prime Rib, I'll give this a two of five star. read more

It's hard to put my finger on my favorite part of my most recent trip to 'the forks': the view, the food, the bar, and the hosts are all fantastic. A word about the hosts. I chose that word after considerable thought. The folks at the forks aren't servers, bartenders, and greeters. The folks are hosts. They are proud of this place. They want you to enjoy your time here. The view: see the pics. You'll not find a more beautiful view in WV. You'll be sitting on Kelly mountain looking over at Bickell's knob with multiple ridges rolling between. The bar: the cocktails use craft syrups made in house. The lavender blueberry martini And ginger bourbon martini were highlights for us. Also notable is the whiskey selection. It's a bar for the aficionado. I'm sure there are whiskies for the 'Tater hunters' under the bar but what impressed me most were the hard to find bottles that aren't well known, aren't expensive, and are amazing. This is an amazingly well curated collection. The food: everything on the menu is well thought out. The pancetta in the risotto, the use of wild mushrooms that are foraged in the areas around the restaurant, scratch made crackers with the summer green salad. The proteins were universally wonderful. I had the filet and my wife had the morel chicken. Again both dishes featured wild local mushrooms. The deserts were thoughtful and delicious. The peach gratin was classic but the chocolate cheese cake on white cake crust? Come on man! How do you how not over cook the white cake and still have cheese cake set perfectly? I don't know. Realizing Elkins was the last point of civilization on the way from Pittsburgh to snowshoe, we trusted Yelp and gave this spot a try. We were not disappointed. We were there after dark so it was very difficult to find and once there it was very nondescript outside, but inside it had a very cozy vibe. Fireplace was roaring. It is a surprisingly upscale menu. We had the charcuterie board which was just ok for the price, but each of our entrees were awesome. We had pork cutlets, chicken and mushrooms, and the filet. Each were visually appealing and tasted even better. The bar had a number of unique options. We finished with apple strudel and peanut butter cheesecake. Service was attentive. The price is north of what I would think a remote restaurant could support, but the entrees were at the level of the price points. Pretentious. I live in Asheville for six months and six months in Key West,so I know a bit about foodie locations and good restaurants. I also eat out a lot-5 or 6 times a week. The Forks was recommended by a person that made other excellent recommendations so we made reservations last week for a weekday dinner. I thought the setting was very nice,particularly the view from the deck.The servers were responsive but not welcoming or warm.Been there/done that. My concern was the quality and expense of the menu.I had a $15 Caesar salad and a $45 prime rib(no sides included).The salad was mediocre but I ate it.The prime rib looked as if had come out of the fridge and was over cooked.Beer was cheap@$5,but I thought for the meal was less than the price tag and if I find my self in Elkins West Virginia I won't be eating at the Forks. read more

This was the only option around here that didn't fully disturb me. The atmosphere was really nice! I got the vegetarian delight. It was what it's name claims to be....delightful! Although my mind was kinda blown because I feel like I was tasting flavors I've never tasted in my life before. The waiter was so nice she gave us free grapefruit sorbet. And you could tell it was really grapefruit. Take that as you will. ‍ My friend got the Spinach Salad with no bacon, and they decided to add in beets for more flavor! She enjoyed it thoroughly. My mother got the Red Snapper she says and I quote; "It was smooth and creamy and it melted in my mouth. The corn cake was delicious" Overall a nice experience very expensive though. My favorite restaurant in Elkins. It's definitely high end and pricier than other restaurants in the area, but the food was so good. My boyfriend and I did the 6 course meal about a month ago, and everything we both got was AMAZING. The price was reasonable for the amount of food and the quality of the food we got. Be forewarned. We came here after a 3-year hiatus. The shock of a lifetime. The food was fine, the atmosphere was really nice. The prices were absurd. My wife got an $18 green salad that measured about 2.5" across. My six-course came with a medallion of beef main course that was tiny ( delicious, but tiny). All in all, over $300 for 4. Drinks included one glass of house wine, one beer and one cocktail. No dessert. Ridiculous prices even if it were NYC or London. I'm so sorry to leave this review. We've been enjoying The Forks for about a year now, and for Randolph County, it is one of the best restaurants offered. In fact, in terms of service, creative menus and well-prepared (and presented) food, The Forks rivals many, more populated areas finer restaurants. Its ambiance is cozy, casual but sophisticated--appropriate for our area. Enjoy their tasting menu, and their occasional smoked prime rib. Bonus, if you're passing through the area and need a place to stay, they have some honest lodging adjacent to the dining. Their owners are very attentive. Cocktails are nice and well-prepared. The restaurant lends itself to special occasion dining as it has a more open area, more private booths and a wonderful outdoor area, all overlooking the northeastern portion of the county, with spectacular views way beyond. read more

Excellent culinary dining experience. I went to this restaurant based on the 5 star reviews only. Please note- reservations are a must. Don't make the same mistake my party did where we walked in and stood at the front awkwardly wondering why nobody was greeting us at 745 pm. Eventually, someone asked us if we had reservations - no. But they were able to accommodate us that night - thankfully! This is a fancy restaurant ; probably wasn't wearing the right attire since we just came from hiking the Seneca rocks. What a great experience we had though! Portion sizes are small and prices are expensive. But the quality of food is what you pay for! Bread & butter was delicious but no they don't refill so once and done. Morel chicken & trio appetizer was amazing! Excellent choices for people that aren't big "'red meat" eaters. We came here once before and while it wasn't the best it was definitely worth a second try. We came here again tonight with high hopes. Ordered 2 Delmonico steaks rare. After waiting about 45 minutes both steaks came out medium well at best. Asked the waitress to get two more steaks, rare this time. The manager comes out and says, " how much more rare would u like the steaks". I said, being as the steaks u brought out weren't rare at all, we would like rare steaks. Finally, got steaks that were red in the middle. Absolutely no reason for a chef not to know how to prepare a rare steak. My husband and I ate at The Forks Inn on a Friday evening. We didn't make reservations, but they were able to fit us in because a couple ahead of us finished early. We had a spectacular view of the mountains from our table on the outside covered deck. Our waitress was very alert and personable. She helped us with our dinner choices and was really knowledgeable. She even brought out a pair of binoculars so we could look for the Bickle Knob Observation Tower from our table (if you have never been, it's a 360 view of Randolph County). To start we ordered drinks and an appetizer. My husband ordered the Black IPA that was on draft and I ordered a mojito. The mojito was a little on the carbonated side but had a refreshing taste. He said his beer was delicious and ordered another with his meal. We had the trout dip which was very favorable and great, but the portion was a little small. He ordered the pork chops with two sides and thought the sides were great. The sweet potatoes had a rich taste to them. The pork chops were slightly on the dry side but were flavorful. I ordered the lamb and I was not disappointed. It was so juicy and the rice and beans that came with it made the whole meal. The white sauce that was poured over it was delicious. I could not have been happier with my meal choice. I never eat a whole plate, but I did that evening. We decided not to have dessert because we were stuffed, but the options for the day made our mouth water. We can't wait to go back! read more

The Forks Inn does a great job in terms of service, food, and atmosphere. The views from her are amazing. I've only been once but I constantly see photos from my friends who frequent the place. The food selection is good and changes, which I love because who wants to eat the same thing everyday. On the day we went we had steak and mahi mahi. Another special Anniversary dinner at the Forks Inn! It started with the earthy Cream of wild mushroom soup with sour cream, fried shiitakes and crostini. Delicious! Waldorf Salad -Mixed greens tossed with our creamy champagne dressing, apples, celery, English walnuts, fresh herbs and coffee rubbed goat cheese with crostini. Excellent! Ditilini with BBQ turkey breast, wild mushrooms, green onions and peppers in a cilantro cream sauce with asiago cheese. Turkey was so tender! Fresh Pasta Grilled chicken breast lasagna with roasted vegetables, ricotta, asiago and parmesan cheeses. Layered with house made egg pasta sheets, baked and topped with basil cream. My favorite! We are from Elkins, and as wonderful a town as it is, it has been a relative wasteland of fine dining for some time. Enter the Forks! My husband and I were lucky enough to be invited to attend the pre opening tasting, and were pleasantly surprised. We were able to sample just about everything on the menu and found nothing at all that we didn't like. My absolute favorite on the menu is the flank steak. It's perfectly cooked and paired. My husband loves the trout. The beauty of the place, though, is not always on the menu. The chef does a WONDERFUL job of creating specials based on whatever he can find that is frest. We have had fresh oysters (gasp!), foie gras, and fresh fish (gasp again). The prime rib is excelent. Desserts are heavenly. I don't like creme brulee, but I love his signatue dessert of creme brulee with a chocolate base. That beng said, many true creme brulee lovers don't really like it as it is a bit of a twist. The only suggestions I would make to the business as a new restaurant in a small town: 1. Add some sort of chocolate to the dessert offerings. 2. Add another vegetarian dish as vegetarians in town have a tough time eating the same thing over and over (I have heard that the chef makes a mean gourmet mac and cheese....) 3. Offer some of the wines on your list by the glass. The Woodbridge is limiting and not very tasty. Maybe one brand of red and one of white as a nightly special, thus decreasing waste from opened and not finished bottles... Overall, we love the place and it is SOOOO nice to finally have a place to dress up ad go out again in this town. I would put it up against any of the fine dining places I've been to anywhere and can't wait to take my friends from the "city" out for an amazing culinary experience! read more

Huge full disclosure: I've grown up with one of the proprietors and known him for 25 years (I'm 30). A pretty amazing spot to eat with a view to match. Within a couple months has easily lifted itself into the best spot to eat in Elkins (based on Facebook buzz, etc), but you can tell in the food: At least when I went, they had a prix-frixe Sunday Brunch with four courses for $25, which sort of sounds high for a small WV town? But really, it's a great deal and let's you try a ton of different courses. The standouts were the profiteroles (savory dish with cream puffs), spinach soup, chicken pot pie and the crepes desserts (ate with a big group and sampled other's food). The quality and presentation of the food competes with some of the nicer places I've eaten at in DC, NYC, Chicago and Charleston, but with a ridiculous view. Some things to note: it is 'sort' of hard to find. Really on Kelly Mountain Road, which is a couple miles east of downtown (not sure about the address Yelp has noted). I really hope to come back to Elkins (with other's, out-of-towners!!) and have my next meal here. read more

FANTASTIC little find nestled on the highway to Elkins, West Virginia. Perched high on the mountain side, on the valley-facing side of the Inn is one of the best American cookin' restaurants I've ever been to. Great local fare, fresh and thoughtfully prepared, and friendly service. We sat outside on the deck which was lovely, but the inside was super cute too. This is certainly a higher-end restaurant than many of the other spots we stopped in while staying in the area, but by no means was it 'D.C. prices'. My prime-rib (which was expertly smoked and oh-so-tender) was around $24, my boyfriend's DELICIOUS popcorn trout came in around $23 and the insanely savory mushroom sour cream soup was about $6. Beers were also very reasonable with local brews coming in anywhere between $4-$5. Our server Emily was super attentive and kind too. When I wanted to get a photo on the patio (with their Tripadvisor gnome!) Emily proactively came down and took about 15 snaps for us. How awesome is that? read more

We were a bit reluctant to trust the reviews after a miss at El Gran Sabor, but The Forks did not fail to disappoint... Ah, finally! In town to celebrate our second wedding anniversary, we only ventured out twice to Elkins - this place was definitely the highlight! We didn't realize The Forks has only been open since December - no wonder we couldn't find any mention of it in the piles of literature provided where we were staying... strongly recommend getting the word out to local lodging/rental offices. The menu was varied and interesting; our waiter seemed a bit nervous but was very friendly and able to answer all the questions we asked. The smoked trout appetizer was very good. Caprese salad was excellent, I almost licked the plate. We were surprised that they were out of the trout entree since we came at the opening hour of 5pm, but no matter, we selected something else which was just as good (smoked trout with pasta); the one tiny change I'd suggest is to make the delicious sauce slightly thicker so it stays on the rotini - however I used the bread to soak it up instead. Oh the bread... amazing!! Prices were very reasonable. They clearly put a lot of effort into presentation, which was wonderful. Made our special occasion feel special with the beautiful view of the mountains... the one thing to keep in mind however is depending on when you go, the road noise can be somewhat distracting. My husband and I came here to celebrate our anniversary. We stayed at the inn upstairs on our first night in Elkins and ate downstairs at the restaurant. The rooms are pretty standard and what you'd expect for a more upscale rural option, and the views from the back porches are fantastic. It's also a very short drive to Elkins, which was convenient for us. My one complaint is that the info booklet promised muffins in the fridge, but the only thing in our fridge was a previous guest's leftovers - yuck. As for the restaurant, we really enjoyed it. We shared a plate of she-crab soup, which was creamy and had a good crab taste. My husband ordered a flat-iron steak, which he said was great, and I had the vegetarian delight, which was also great (but I don't think I'd order it again given the other options). And I don't have enough nice things to say about our waitress, Leslie - she was kind, attentive, and most importantly, very knowledgeable about the menu. But we each had the Catch of the Day (Minnesota Pike) and it was outstanding. Cooked to perfection, plenty of taste, etc. Just great. The sides were also quite excellent with it. We decided to top it off with dessert. Again, outstanding. Offerings change constantly it seems but ours were out of this world. They also a nice selection of beer and wine. However, if none of this convinces you, the ambience will. We dines on the terrace with a breathtaking view of the mountains. Just an amazing atmosphere for dining. Our server was extremely vigilant and friendly. So, great views, food and service. You can't go wrong.
