All flavors are on point, the view is amazing, & the whole staff are friendly. Every course from the new summer menu was excellent- from the Asian salad to the mint pana cotta! Dined here on a Saturday night. It was fairly quiet and after the rush which was perfect for us. Impeccable service--quick but not rushed, gracious, warm and welcoming but not hovering or pandering. Decent wine list. We sampled the summer menu which our server informed us was new that week: shrimp and grits for and app, a simple salad with excellent homemade dressing, a high quality steak seasoned well and cooked to perfection, and a housemade pasta dish that was creative and tasty. For dessert we very much enjoyed fresh coffees and a simple berry/cream concoction. The impeccable service and stellar food complements the cozy ambience and magnificent mountain view. read more

I've had friends and family stop and have dinner at The Forks, but this is personally my first time in for a drink and a meal. The She-Crab soup, which was a feature and not on the menu, was outstanding. The local Big Timber Brewing Pale Ale went down smoothly, paired nicely with the food and was refreshing. Also, I had the swordfish feature as my entree and it was prepared perfectly. Hard to get good seafood in the mountains, but this was absolutely legit. Our service was solid and the views of Bickle Knob off the back deck where our table was located were fantastic. Great vibe and I'd recommend it to anyone, either locally or if you're passing through. It's arguably the best restaurant in this beautiful part of the West Virginia high country. read more

The Forks is Elkins' upscale dining restaurant. Locals, including myself, think it's pricey. Folks from larger metropolitan area's may think it's fairly priced. Came here for a celebration dinner on Saturday night. We had an awesome table on the porch and our food was excellent. The problem? Jay, our server, was sloooooow. We waited 10-15 minutes for our drinks. Another 15 minutes for the appetizer. An hour for dinner? Slow on refills and never cleared out plates, and yet, apologized for not clearing our plates. I have never had this problem at The Forks before and I will be back but our moods were all slightly dampened by the mediocre service...we figured it was a busy night. read more

Had the pleasure of dining at this lovely establishment twice this past weekend. We were staying at the nearby cabins on Kelly Mountain and a friend recommended we try the Forks. We made a reservation and then went down early to enjoy a cocktail from their amazing cocktail menu at the bar. It is a family-owned establishment and our bar tender was one the sons as was the front of the house the other son. We enjoyed the company of their dad at the bar and learned all about this restaurant. The young men's uncle was the chef. They could not have treated us better and then we returned the next night and again wonderful service and food. The food is a real find. Just delicious!! Had a special with local mushrooms that was wonderful. Both nights the food, atmosphere, and family made the experience and we will return. We mentioned this establishment to everyone we met asking for a place to go. So if you get a chance, give it a try. read more

For our first visit, my wife had seafood pot pie; I had prime rib. We brought a slice of German chocolate cheesecake back to our motel for dessert. The food was excellently prepared: I ordered the prime rib "well done" and it was moist and succulent. We chose the outdoor area with a great view. Emily was our server and provided excellent service including a fresh tea bag when I finished my first cup of tea. She recommended the dessert choice and we were quite pleased. I had selected this venue for my intimate wedding reception do to their good food and beautiful setting. I reached out to the owner, Drew, and outlined my needs and complete budget expectations during our initial conversation. I had a budget of $50 per person, plus the cost of appetizers and drinks for our toast. We would have easily spent over $2000 for our party of 30. After spending over a month in planning and coming to our final menu selections, he decided at that point to tell me that 4 hours was too long for my event and that I'd have to pay an exorbitant $1500 fee for my event to go from 4 pm to 8 pm. This is despite the fact that I had been told that "rental" fees were included in the $50/person price that we had negotiated up front, for food that goes for $17-25 per plate on their retail menu. When I objected to the $1500 fee that I had not been told about during the entire negotiation process, and asked how long would not be too long for my event to run, I was told to take my business elsewhere. I have never been treated more unprofessionally in my life. I had previously enjoyed this restaurant, but after being treated like trash by the owners, I will never support or recommend this business again. Especially for special events. I'm now 80 days from my wedding and have to start my reception planning from scratch. read more

Joined Yelp just to give this place a shout-out! Amazing and really stylishly-prepared food. Kind of a classic menu, with top-notch ingredients and preparation. I don't think you could go wrong with anything on the menu based on what I saw come out of the kitchen, but I went with the trout and it was probably the best I'd ever had. Tasty local beers on tap, too. Maybe a bit pricey, but totally worth it, especially for special occasions. And of course, the view is as advertised. Looking forward to returning. read more

Coming into Elkins, WV every year, we have stayed at several of the 'nicer' inns and hotels in the area. All of them were overpriced, especially during Forest Festival (boo hiss to you Holiday Inn Express!!!) Thank goodness we found The Forks! The rooms are clean, reasonably priced, beautifully decorated, and all have a million dollar views. They have plenty of pillows and extra blankets! We didn't even have to ask. They really think of all of your needs ahead of time. Jill is so accommodating! Then, it's time to eat. Holy smokes!! Their food is outstanding! Probably one of the best meals in the area. My wife had the soup (butternut squash with curried honey and pumpkin seeds) that she talked about all weekend. My filet was delicious. Even the bread is fantastic. Both Julie and Jay are attentive and helpful servers. You don't get personalized service like this in a lot of places. It's the reason that every time we come to town, it's the only places we stay. read more

My best friend and I came to Elkins for my Great Aunt's Birthday this weekend and decided to try The Forks for dinner Friday, December 5, our first night in town. We are foodies and we know GREAT food when we find it. We had read the reviews on line and seen the restaurant's website and decided we had to have dinner here. We were not disappointed. The service was attentive and the food was superlative. Everything was perfectly balanced. Flavors popped but did not overwhelm or linger over long. There were nuances and layers of complexity to each dish. We were so impressed that we made reservations for the next night and took a couple more family members along with us, who were equally impressed. We told everyone we met that they must come to the Forks. We can't wait to come back again with our hubbies. I'll also be back with my mom in the spring, but I really wish I could be there sooner. read more

I absolutely LOVE their restaurant! If I had heard about it earlier I would've tried to stay in one of their rooms too! The first thing that got me hooked was their sweet cream butter. It was so warm and soft that we couldn't stop eating it! We even got a second basket of bread and another plate of butter. Next, we had the mushroom cobbler as our appetizer. It was much smaller than I expected but it was still delicious! The mushrooms were creamy and tender and the cobbler stayed crispy until we finished. For our entrees, I had the steak au poivre vert and my boyfriend had the catch of the day (can't remember what it was) and both were amazing! My steak was cooked perfectly with a pinkish red center (I like my steaks medium rare) and the sauce complimented the steak extremely well. Both of our meals were served with fresh vegetables. Their drinks were also very yummy and cheaply priced! We had the pineapple mojito and the perfect gin and tonic. Wish we had stayed for dessert but we had other plans after dinner :( I also can't forget to mention the gorgeous view! We had dinner on the deck and it was absolutely breath taking. Not expensive. Chef is very experienced - internationally and nationally. Win list can use work, but I understand State of WV limits wine selections. Very good steak/portabella mushroom special. Onion soup good. Dessert was also quite good. Everything made on premises. Definitely going back. Well worth the drive if you are skiing in the Canaan Valley. In October, we had a private party here to celebrate our marriage, which had occurred the previous day. We had about 50 people in attendance, which seemed to be about the perfect number, though they can seat more during times of the year when the weather allows use of the deck. It was an absolutely wonderful experience. We knew the food was fabulous because we have eaten here previously, and the service has always been great. But the owners and staff went above and beyond any of our expectations. The owners took care of all of the details for us, so mostly we just had to send out invitations and show up. They assured us early on that we wouldn't have to worry about a thing, and they were right. For example, we were going to rent propane heaters for the deck, and they said they'd arrange to do that for us. The price they got for them from the local rental company was extremely expensive, so they went ahead and just bought them for the Inn and didn't add any of that charge to our bill. We also had a bonfire after dinner at a large fire circle downslope from the deck ). They started the fire for us, and provided enough pallets to burn throughout the evening as well as pocket-sized flashlights for everyone to make their way to the campfire circle safely. While they were willing to arrange for a DJ for us, we opted for having dancing after dinner without a DJ, which was made possible simply by assembling a play list and hooking a laptop into their audio system. These folks and this place are GREAT. You won't find any restaurant around that has better food and service either for a simple night out or for a full blown party. If you go anywhere else, you're wasting your money and you'll miss out on a fabulous experience. We also rented all of the rooms at the Inn for the weekend for our out of town guests. While we didn't stay at the Inn, everyone who did loved it there. The quality of the rooms and the friendliness of the cleaning staff were great. Each room has a balcony that looks out across a valley and has spectacular views. Since the leaves were near peak color, it was even better. And this is the same view you get from the restaurant and restaurant deck. Take our advice and make this your destination -- you won't be disappointed. read more

For our 30th anniversary we went to The Forks Inn for the weekend . We had no reservation as we could not acquire a phone number anywhere . It was no problem to secure a room . The room was superior with beautiful views of the mountains any time day or night . We had dinner in the restaurant and the food was excellent .Highly recommend lodging or dinner to anyone traveling through the Elkins, W.Va. area . The proprietors were very gracious and accommodating . We are looking forward to returning - possibly for our 31st ! The Forks Inn was exactly the type of place I had told my husband I wanted to go for our anniversary . We recommend The Forks Inn to all our friends . read more
