There was a long line just for people to pay for their order, it took like 5 minutes for each person JUST TO PAY for their order. Being from Boston and regularly have Italian north end pizza available to me, finding an acceptable pizza in fairborne is a bit of a challenge. Flying Pizza is about as close to the pizza I like as one can find in the greater Dayton area. Traditional hand tossed crust is good but some vegetables are canned. Nice, family owned business, super friendly and quick service. They have a two slice lunch special for $9 and change, you can choose from four two topping combinations. Pizza crust was thin, crispy and piping hot. I ordered a single slice of pepperoni and it scratched my pizza itch. Plenty of seating and I overheard the owner say they've been in business 35 years, so can't go wrong with that! Next time I come I want to try the meatball sandwich which looked delish. read more

This place is right by my hotel so I figured I'd give 'em a shot. I ordered delivery to my hotel. The guy taking my order was friendly and helpful. I ordered a medium (they don't have a small) pizza with pepperoni and mushrooms. The delivery went fine so the service here is 4 stars. Now, the pizza. It was mediocre. They are billed as "New York" style. I'm sorry but cutting the pizza into larger slicer doesn't make it "New York" style. It is way to thick to fold and eat. The sauce was ok but a little on the bland side. The toppings were plenty but, I didn't care for the mushrooms. They seemed very moist. A little too moist for my liking. Again, it wasn't bad. We stopped in here for the first time last Saturday for lunch before attending an event at the Nutter Center and was impressed. This is a typically New York style pizza place. When you walk in you walk up to a counter and order. They have whole pizza's, pizza by the slice, sandwiches, and salads as well as drinks. My husband and daughter went with a medium cheese pizza and I choose the pepperoni/sausage lunch combo (2 slices and a drink). We got our drinks, found a place to seat, and waited for our food. It took a little longer then I expected, but it was lunch time and they did make the food fresh so it wasn't terrible. Once we did get our food it came out hot and fresh! The slices were huge, which is typically of New York style pizza. My husband even made the comment that he should have just ordered by the slice because there was no way they were going to finish the medium pizza. My husband was impressed with the cheese pizza, sauce, and crust. He loves pizza and NY style is his favorite. I thought the sausage and pepperoni combo was really good. I would have loved bigger pieces of sausage, but it was still good. Overall really good pizza. I just find them to be a little expensive for pizza. For what we paid I would have rather went to Dewey's and spent a little more to get even better pizza. read more

Here is why I question whether or not Dayton's citizens have tastebuds... We ordered a medium, Neapolitan (so the crust wouldn't be too thick, as a few of the complaints described) pepperoni, sausage, mushroom and black olive pizza. It was the most bland, flavorless and unappealing pizza that we have ever eaten. Even the meat and vegetables were pale in color. I must say that even after having read the comments about the flavorless pizzas, we were shocked at how bad a pizza could actually be. We each ate only one piece and took the rest home to be doctored up and possibly, maybe, consumed later. (Hate to waste money) On the plus side and this is a big plus, the girls behind the counter could not have been more nice or friendly. We give it two stars instead of one because the customer service was outstanding. But we went for good pizza and not necessarily for good service. Flying Pizza is one of my favorite pizza places in the Dayton area. It is the best New York Style pizza in the Dayton area. It's located in a semi-hidden shopping plaza across from The Nutter Center and Wright State, behind Bob Evans. You can grab pizza by the slice, or you can buy a whole pie. All of the pizza toppings are great. Personally, I just love getting cheese her. It is so amazing. You can go in and sit and eat, they have tables and booths. Plenty of space to sit. Or you can order carry out. The prices aren't bad for what you get. You have to remember that these slices are the size of your head. $14 for a 14" or a 16" for $18. What happened? This was one of the best pizza places in Dayton. Pizza was always great. Run by original owners from Italy. We began eating there in the late eighties. On 2/20/2021, I ordered takeout from the Fairborn location. A cheese pizza to go. The bad. 1. A duck could have gone swimming in this pizza pool. It was swimming in oil. My wife used many paper towels to get off as much oil as possible. 2. It was mediocre. The taste wasn't there. Did they switch to lesser quality ingredients? Cheese had no taste. Couldn't taste the tomato I sauce. The okay. 1. The girl made sure the pizza was cooked properly, checking it often. No doughy taste. It wasn't an issue of undercooked pizza. It was cooked fully. 2. I've visited The Flying Pizza MANY times, and can attest to the fact that they do it right. If you know what to order, you'll have a great dining experience and a full stomach. Stick with the pizza "by the slice", and the calzones. They are delicious! I'd not recommend getting toppings on your slices, though. The slices are baked as plain cheese slices, and quickly re-heated as needed. That's not a problem with plain cheese slices, and in fact, works quite well. But if you order toppings, they are added to these 'already baked" slices before re-heating. That does not work very well. And I agree with the previous comment about the drinks. I'm rather surprised that they charge for refills, given that I can't remember any other place that still does that. Fountain soda pop is so cheap these days. I doubt they get too many customers wanting to pay for a refill. But definitely get your drink with no ice, or little ice. Otherwise, you won't have enough. This place is just flat out good. I always have the pepperoni pizza, and it's excellent. It's made right in front of you, you even get to watch the guy flip the dough. Now that's entertaining. It's made pretty fast too, I think I waited 5 minutes tops. They have a good lunch special as well, I think 2 slices of pizza and a drink for around $6. You can get a full pizza, or pizza by the slice. It's a pretty plain establishment, no frills here. But why would you need it? It's the food that matters, they aren't big on ambiance. The only thing lacking is friendly service, I don't think the guy that helped me smiled once. read more
