We did not have a positive experience with the food from Flying Pizza. We ordered carry out and the restaurant was clean and the staff was very nice. We ordered a two topping medium pizza and an order of breadsticks. The total for these items were just under $30 before tip. The breadsticks were so hard, they were impossible to bite, we had to tear them to eat them. The pizza was fine, but it had so much dough. The dough overtook the whole taste of the pizza. Tried this place because several locals have mentioned it being the best NY style pizza in town. I was very disappointed. I ordered ahead due to wanting a calzone and there being a wait time. I also ordered a slice of pizza. The pizza was lack luster and you could tell they added the pepperoni onto a slice of pre-cooked cheese pizza and then re-heated it. Speaking of the pepperoni- it was WEIRD. Tasted more like a salami blend than traditional pepperoni. The calzone was also disappointing. The cheese inside was weirdly runny. How have I not had this pizza before?!?! As advertised, it is a definite 'New York style' pizza. We went with a large sausage, pepperoni, and extra cheese. It was huge! The pizza was cut into 8 large slices. We definitely had leftovers. If you don't want a whole pie, they also sell pizza by the slice. The pizza was yummy. It was generously filled with toppings and bonus...not dripping with grease. The box and paper was almost clean. We also went with some side salads. These seemed fresh and included extra crispy veggies and cheese on top. Plus, the lettuce was a nice, dark spinach, versus the iceberg mix that many restaurants use. I did carry out tonight but the inside definitely had a nice sit down area if you'd rather eat out. The guys at the counter were busy. There were a lot of younger employees learning the 'ropes' but everyone was really nice and patient. I didn't have to wait on my call ahead order. I was a little disappointed there was no diet pop in the cooler to take home but not a huge deal. We will definitely be back! read more

Everything is always top notch. Pizza is THE BEST in Centerville, coming from someone who has grown up with it. I also love that they sell Mikesell's chips, another Dayton classic. I've never had a bad experience with them. Always super friendly, willing to go above and beyond for all customers. Just this last time I was in one of the brothers that runs the place walked a pizza to an elderly man's car unprompted. the price went too high! for just a large cheese pizza. and they just recently, because we haven't been there for quite a few months, changed the red sauce, which has always been a staple of Flying Pizza, that made the flavor so delicious, and now it is Terrible. Definitely my go to pizza spot in Dayton. Me and my friends have been going here since high school and we love coming back to get some when we're in town. We stopped in and my friends 4 year old daughter smashed 2 slices on her own (that shows how good the pizza is!) The pizza is always fresh and cheesy and sprinkling some red pepper flakes on top of it in combination with the Parmesan cheese makes each bite perfect. Not the best and not the worst. Pretty average pizza and calzones. Neapolitan style pizza is meant to be thin and flavorful. They got the thin bubbly crust right, although it tasted like the dough was only all purpose and not double-0 and maybe had some conditioner in it. When we make our Neapolitan dough it's always 00-flour and top shelf ingredients. We also always bast the dough with olive oil and crack salt across the entire thing. Flavor wise everything was pretty bland. The marinara sauce had no flavor at all. Crush tomatoes and season the sauce with salt or something! The pepperoni calzone also flavorless. The spinach and ricotta calzone was tasty but dipped in the flavorless marinara and it all fell apart. For the price, Old Scratch continues to be the best pizza in the area, unless I'm doing my own dough and baking my own pizza. It's as close to the pizzas as we make and learned to make from folks who've traveled through Naples for many years. Flying pizza is okay. Give it a shot, maybe you'll like it. There was a great joint just a few doors down from a bar that a friend owns in NYC. Hard to replicate. So we have been our own search for what we think is great NYC style pizza. This place is nice, great folks working behind the counter, super friendly and helpful. Pizza was good but my usual complaint in places like this is that the mushrooms weren't fresh. I think the NY style pizza would have been really good if it had not been overcooked. So, I might give it another try. This location is far from fancy in decor, but it's clean. The pizza only took about twenty minutes, so our wait was not long. We ordered the smallest New York Style whole pizza, which was three pieces each for two people. It really doesn't sound like a lot, but the slices are huge. We ended up taking half the pizza home - which is always great for lunch the next day.
