I've gone here on dates with my boyfriend turned husband, picked up a slice for road trips, and stopped back by for visits EVERYTIME I'm in town! This local chain is family owned and I love hearing stories about my husband coming in as a kid from the dad and sons! My go to order is one hot slice of pepperoni and sausage pizza (I add red pepper flakes) and a bag of another local item...Mike's Good and Hot chips! The most recent time I visited, the atmosphere was very lively with patrons watching the Ohio State vs Michigan game on the 2 large tvs! I got a slice of the deluxe pizza, veggies with pepperoni. This pizza was also very good. The crust seems to have gotten a bit thicker over the years but the soft fluffy crust with a crunchy bottom is a nice add... just makes it slightly harder to fold in half like I use to but no complaints! We were doing a scavenger hunt in Dayton and were famished. When we walked by Flying Pizza it smelled so good we knew we had to go back. For $34 we got a large 1/2 cheese 1/2 pepperoni and sausage pizza, two garlic sauce cups, and three fountain sodas. There is a sign saying they prefer cash, but they won't turn you away if you need to use a card to pay. We were given silverware, paper plates and our beverages then sent to find a seat. The dining room is small (the pizza was the size of the table lol) and was packed but it was comfortable. They offered bottled beer, salads desserts etc. When the pizza came out hot and fresh from the oven it was STEAMING hot! It is New York style pizza and the sausage was crumbled very small which I prefer. We couldn't wait and didn't care if we burned our mouths. It was delicious! So delicious. The cheese was stringy and snappy and perfect. We literally ate the whole thing. I would eat it again today! And tomorrow. And the next day! Ha Give it a try, you'll love it! read more

We were visiting Dayton on Spring Break and stopped by Flying Pizza with four hungry teenagers. I knew they were the home of HUGE pizzas, and that's what we needed. From start to finish, we had a great experience. We were greeted immediately with a warm welcome. I believe it may have been the owner who took our order, a super friendly guy. We ordered 2 large pizzas, thinking we might need to order another later if the kids downed these. Our kids eat a TON and let me tell you - 2 pizzas were plenty! The slices were huge and cheesy. It's the best NY-style pizza we've had in a while. You can also purchase by the slice, which we saw a lot of people coming in to do. It made more sense for us, as a family of six, to purchase whole pizzas. The prices are affordable. You can tell this is a local favorite, where people know each other. They've been in business for over 50 years and seem to have a faithful community of customers. The owner knew people and their regular orders as they were coming in. It's nice to see that these local restaurants still exist, I seek them out when I travel and love giving them our business. Especially when we are getting some delicious dinner in return! This will be our new go-to family spot in Dayton. And you really can watch them toss the pizza while you are there. read more

Ordered a large cheese pizza crispy/well done. Opened the box and tried a few bites of a slice and it was completely RAW and undercooked. Inside the crust was cold and mush and the bottom was barely done. I brought the pizza back to explain how it was undercooked and not well done, and the owner wanted to find every excuse to use. He said "thats what happens when you shut the top of the pizza box, it gets like that" Ummmm last time I checked closing the top of a pizza box doesn't cause the dough to be cold and raw. Workers then started to question and interrogate me as if I was trying to make something up. I said I didn't want to get sick and the owner chirped back "well that would never happen anyways" I asked if they could make me a fresh new well done pizza like I had originally asked for or just put the undercooked pizza back in. He took a pizza that looked like was made 3+ hours before sitting out and said he would just cook that up. After that I was all set and asked for a credit. Not to mention, $24 for a raw, undercooked cheese pizza that is far from New York style. Outrageous. Felt sick to my stomach all night. Do better. read more

I was born in Staten Island NY in the same year this place was opened. I lived there 26 years and now I travel lots of places NY to LA. I know pizza. There are only a handful of places left in the US that serve CORRECTLY made NY single slice pizza. This is one of them. It's perfectly made. Also the staff is great. As far as the Dayton area is concerned, this is probably one of the best restaurant choices you can make. Not only is the pizza amazing, the staff make you feel as though you are a part of their family! The pizza is authentic, New York style. The slices are large, thin and doughy, just like one would expect in NYC. The offerings can be purchased by the slice or as a whole pie. They also have a Sicilian pizza that has a thick, heavy crust and is cut in squares. I have not yet tried the Sicilian, but I will certainly have a go at some point. It looks and smells epic! We typically go in as a family, so we order a whole pizza. I have to say, this is a much better pizza than by the slice. Usually the slices have been sitting for a bit and the crust tends to get tough after they reheat it in the oven, which never really seems to get it back to piping hot like it should be. Ordering whole, it comes out super soft and blazing hot! The best part is the cheese, which is molten went they bring it to the table. It's a special blend of cheeses and the taste is just outerworldly. I usually end up burning my mouth because I want it so badly. The crust and sauce complement the cheese superbly. You can taste the four decades worth of perfection! As for the establishment its self, it is clean, well lit, with plenty of seating, and easy to get to. Unfortunately parking can be tricky. I hear they have some spaces in the parking garage next door, which they will validate, however we usually visit on Saturdays or late evenings, which is when the garage is not open. Be prepared for a short walk if you are going to visit at off hours or weekends. The family that owns and operates this establishment are nothing but the best. They are always smiling and friendly. They simply love what they do and it show in they interactions with the customers. I cannot say enough kind words about them and their pizza. Well - I would have loved to love this since it's so close to work. But at just under $8 for two slices and a couple of dips, I regret the calories. The thin crust is lovely and crackly, the way I like it (yet not a true NY style) but that's where it stops. The sauce is mildly sweet but has little to no flavor and the cheese also lacks flavor and is industrial. I had green pepper and mushroom on thin crust (a smaller slice to boot than say Late Night Slice in Columbus, or any of the NY slices I've had elsewhere) and a Sicilian thick crust plain cheese. The Sicilian cheese had some garlic in the sauce which lent some flavor and the crust had nice tiny airy pockets in it and was fully risen before the may the pie. Pick from any of the daily baked 'za's and they will warm it up in the oven for you. Want packets of parm? That will cost you extra... as will a side of the pizza sauce and/or garlic sauce. Free shakes of dried oregano and garlic salt help out the pizza a bit, but even with that, and pepper... and salt, I felt like my cash was not wisely spent. One of the staff was commenting on the biggest rat she'd seen... I hope it wasn't there. I won't be returning and will explore other options. The helathcare center kitchen across the way offers fresher ingredients at a better value for now. read more
