When we arrived we had to wait 15mins for a table, which wasn't too bad since it was a Sunday at 1130a so well into brunch time. Once seated we were brought waters quickly and placed our orders for both drinks and our entrees...our drinks were delivered quickly, and my guava mimosa was delicious! It is then when things went downhill as far as service goes, I understand it was a Sunday and that they were busy but between receiving our drinks and getting our food it took over an hour and our waiter was no where to be seen during that wait. There was only 2 of us and we both had ordered the same thing so honestly the over an hour wait was entirely too long to wait. Once our food was delivered we were sad to find out that there was minimal meat found in our triple meat skillet and one of our 2 poached eggs on each plate was over cooked and more liked a hard boiled egg. The tastes was nice though and I'd consider trying them again next time I'm in Bethlehem, but only if I happened to be there and they looked less busy. read more

Had a wonderful brunch date with my wife here in May. The restaurant itself can feel a little claustrophobic due to its size, but the outdoor seating is very nice. It was a beautiful spring day. Our table was far enough from the street that we were comfortable but positioned perfectly to enjoy the ambiance of downtown Bethlehem. We both had omelets that were made to order. Vegan and gluten-free options are listed accordingly. We can't resist the loaded tator tots to start off as an appetizer, it might be one of their specialities because it always comes out perfect with just the right amount of cheese and bacon bits on top! I also appreciate their health conscious approach. For diner vibes and standard fare offerings with the exception of the Dutch Baby, the food isn't greasy, minimal oil is used and there's an impressive emphasis on plant based options. I can't wait to try the vegan macaroni and cheese when it's not sold out! Hehe Everything is on point here food wise, regardless if they have a full staff or may be short staffed. As late, we've noticed some issues where they ran short staffed giving way to longer wait times and awkward but heartfelt apologies from the already hardworking team. They recommend coming on the weekdays, but like most people, we're off on Sundays. I myself am willing to wait for a memorable meal but I can also understand how this can inconvenience someone even on a lazy Sunday. So for our 52nd wedding anniversary, decided to go to Hotel Bethlehem for a late breakfast, in order to celebrate the day. After arriving at the restaurant we were told they would be serving only hotel guests because of a staff shortage...but the restaurant was EMPTY! So we marched next door, to The Flying Egg, thankfully we immediately had a booth and started with a great cup of coffee. Great stuffed french toast and eggs benedict! Have wanted to try the Flying Egg since it opened so we stopped tonight when there was an empty parking lot on a Wednesday night at 7:00, I see now why it was empty. Not impressed at all, servers were preoccupied with their cell phones, and socializing amongst themselves, food was decent but after looking at our bill realized they over charged, billing us for a double drink not asked for and charged $1.95 extra for guacamole not requested nor used for a $19 quesadilla. This is my favorite breakfast spot in the Lehigh Valley. I've never had a bad meal. The ambiance is lovely, the service is always excellent, and the food is incredible. It's busy, but quiet enough that you can talk to your tablemates. My only criticism has been the wait, since it is a small building, but now that take reservations it's no longer an issue. I don't eat meat, but there are so many vegetarian and vegan options available that I've been able to try something new every time. If you're not into breakfast food, there is also a lunch menu available after 11. As one would expect from a millennial, the avocado toast is my favorite dish on the menu. It has a perfectly poached egg (you can specify how you'd like them poached, too!) on some amazing toast. The accompanying salad is a little unnecessary, but it doesn't take away from the joy of the toast. I also love the Veg Benedict and the Greek Omelette. My meat-eating brunch companions typically enjoy the short-rib benedict or the three-meat skillet (topped with an incredible biscuit). The chicken & waffles is also a sight to behold - absolutely perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. The Dutch Baby is touted as being "worth the wait," since it takes quite awhile to prepare, but I've been underwhelmed by it when I've ordered it in the past. This was my 3rd time dining at the Flying Egg, as I think everyone deserves a second chance...or a third. The location and decor is great. It's cute. Rustic. Screams elevated/boozy brunch. I want to like to like this place so badly but every visit has been a disappointment. As others mention the service is incredibly slow. Be prepared to wait 45-50 minutes or more for your meals. The staff is always extremely polite but I'd assume they are probably understaffed. The second visit, we got our meals, but the waitress forgot to give us utensils. It then took another 5-7 mins to flag someone down to get utensils. The entrees are pretty subpar. On my first visit the poached eggs had completely solid yolks and were cold. I got another variety of Eggs Benedict( my favorite) on my second visit and again the eggs were improperly cooked and the dish was bland overall. The French Fries are ok but nothing crazy. I wouldn't recommend the home fries as they tend to be rather anemic, almost boiled rather than fried in any form. My most recent visit I got the "the jersey", a pork-roll and egg sandwich. It was pretty tasty, eggs were cooked properly but certainly not good enough to justify the other issues. I truly believe they could turn it around but I think they are trying to do too much and feed too many than they can accommodate. Go back to basics and go from there. read more

Went here for brunch with a friend yesterday because we were walking along the street and it was one of the first restaurants we saw. After seeing the name of the restaurant I immediately recognized its name from yelp as a 'hot and new' restaurant so we decided to give it a try. The back area has a very different vibe, almost like a NY lounge with its booths and lighting fixtures. They have a decent menu, mostly egg dishes - as one would expect from a place called the flying egg. I was very excited to see gluten free buns available for their sandwiches. I got the flegg a very odd name but a very good sandwich. The chicken was seasoned really well and the egg was cooked perfectly. The tomato and lettuce were fresh. The bacon had s great flavor. The fries were really tasty, perfectly seasoned. This place is open pretty long, 3 during weekdays and 4 on weekends. The only thing I didn't like was the small devices the waiters carried to take orders. What happened to good old pen and paper? It made it slightly uncomfortable the length of time the waitress took to plug in orders while just standing there over our table. I can see this place becoming really popular good quality food, reasonable prices, and a very on trend aesthetic and good service. When this place was suggested for breakfast I wasn't aware they had only been open for a week. I have a general rule about not trying new restaurants until they work out the kinks, and plenty of kinks there were. While the food was pretty good the service was pretty awful. Our server was unable to answer any of the questions we asked and couldn't give a recommendation either. She was unfamiliar with the menu and even asked strange questions like "cold water" when I asked for a water with lemon as my beverage. The servers are using tablets to take orders and along with my general gripes regarding technology, this made for zero interaction. Our server literally never even made eye contact with us because her face was buried in her tablet the whole time, to the point that she was too busy figuring out how to use it to remember we ordered coffee. On top of that, it took 20 minutes to get coffees which is crazy. They also have no beverage station, which I hope is on its way because ice was being brought out from the kitchen and spilling all over the floor and no one bothered to clean it up, I was praying no one would fall and hurt themselves. The food was pretty good. I had the skillet minus the biscuits and it was tasty. My friend enjoyed the ricotta and apple toast and my stepdad liked his chicken and waffles but said the sauce was a bit off putting. The interior is actually quite nice, they did an impressive revamp of the existing space. It is bright, open and modern. We kept asking the waiters about our food and their response is always the same with a shocked face as if this was the first time we asked about the food, "it's on it's way" was the response every time. Was it though? Anyways we got the food, and the avocado toast was worth maybe $1 at most, very disappointing. Egg Benedict and omelette were just okay, definitely not worth the wait. Oh we had to wait another 5 min for the silverware. Throughout this entire experience no manager came to talk to us and one apologized to us or the other tables. We were done with our food and I asked for the check. 20 min later, still no check. I told my gf I'm read to just walk away and not pay but she's a better person than I am so I went inside, made them give me the check right away and I paid and left. TRUE STORY! 7/17/2021I was going to this establishment because my daughter made reservations (9am) for my birthday. I walked across the street through the outside dining customers to the entrance. As I was about to enter a blonde woman was about to enter. Unbeknownst to I she was an employee of the The Flying Egg. Well she enters and I followed. She doesn't even attempt to hold the door for me. So I catch the door and enter. Right when you enter there is a hostess standing there to assist. Well the woman there acts as if she doesn't see me an talks with what I'm assuming is another fellow employee. So I stand there and wait. The door opens up and a older caucasian couple walk in. The female ask me "are you waiting" I politely reply "yes I am". Now I'm still standing in the spot never once did I move. I am clearly in the sight line of this hostess along with any other employees who works for the The Flying Egg. I don't even get a "good morning" "hello welcome to the The Flying Egg may I help you". What I do get is this hostess completely ignoring me and asking to assist the couple who entered after I did. Now as I continue to stand there my blood starts to boil and I wonder wtf is going on here. The hostess literally overlooks me. Ask the couple as I'm still standing there "how many" and proceeds to seat them. Talk about feeling truly insignificant and unwelcome. I then walk out of The Flying Egg and call my daughter. I ask her to come and pick me up. With many many expletives I told her " I ain't eating at a place where muthatruckas can't even acknowledge your existence as a new customer. To overlook I for whatever reason is not acceptable. So I get in the car and start cussing like a sailor about The Flying Egg. Instead of making a scene in The Flying Egg. I called and asked to speak with a manager. I then am assisted by a Jose. I tell him in a very polite manner exactly what I had experienced. He tells me "the girls are young" "we are training them to do better" here's another excuse he made "it starts from home"? Now I'm thinking what the hell this guy is talking about. Making and excuse for the unprofessional behavior of the hostess or the blonde girl who didn't attempt to hold the door as I entered right behind her. "There's know excuse for their behavior" Jose says to me. He then says he will tell a Todd and he will be calling me. Well I have "NEVER" heard from this Todd (and still to this day haven't). It will be almost a "MONTH" to the day that I experienced this blatant inexcusable rude unprofessional experience. I am assuming I do not fit in to the The Flying Eggs acceptable business clientele. I was really looking forward to finally going to breakfast here. It's been on my list for a couple of years and we finally decided to give it a try. To say the least, it was disappointing. But I had to knock it down to 2 stars. I made a reservation on Open Table. Instead of confirming the reservation when we arrived, the hostess canceled the reservation. So I didn't earn my points. This place can definitely be skipped. If in Bethlehem, go to Billy's, Mitzi's, or Jumbar's instead. If in Easton, go to The Breakfast Table or The State Cafe.
