Seasoned just right and palatable for the location (Apex). Not overly and under seasoned. Mac and cheese are good - flavorful, creamy, and cheesy. Hush puppies could be better. The texture wasn't my liking. The collards were perfect. The collards were seasoned with pork, and it's very hard to mess up anything with pork. This is a (mostly) fried fish place, so if that is your thing, you will like it. I had the fried catfish, coleslaw and potato salad. All very acceptable. The restaurant is clean, but there are not many tables. You feel a little stuck between cafe and cafeteria. One knock I will give. I asked the person at the counter "how are the collards?" I got a momentary blank stare followed by "people eat them." Maybe a little training is in order? It seems like a place that has lots of regulars. Several customers called by name. Breading for the fish, shrimp and wings was amazing too!!! And let us know forget them incredible hush puppies. Them puppies packed a HUGE BITE! The Fish House is right next door to a seafood market which is on Perry Road off 55. It is not visible from 55, so dont miss the Perry Rd turn. Just a few tables, but all were clean. The menu is on a board on the counter and also on a screen above. Walk up and order, then they bring it to you. There are condiments and napkins at a large station near where you order. I had the fried shrimp plate with collards and fried okra. Wow...all were so, so good. The shrimp and okra were fried well and NOT greasy at all. The collards were cooked well and I noticed vinegar at the condiment station for those that like that. There were quite a few hush puppies too and they were not sweet like some are, which is good for me. The young man at the register was helpful and my order came out quickly and everything was super hot. It was served in a to go box which was a good thing, because I could not eat it all, there was so much food. The day I was there they had trout, whitting and flounder for fish and pork chops. I noticed they did a bang bang shrimp as well....might try that next time...and there WILL be a next time. This place is almost a 5 in my book. I am extremely saddened to have to write a negative review, my husband highly recommended this establishment. Our first experience together was amazing, the food is fantastic. However, my most recent experience was quite the opposite. I specifically place a (DOUBLE) order for (3) large sides when I arrived home, I only received only 3 large sides. when I called and explained my situation I was told to come back and the issue would be resolved. I was asked about the distance in which in I would be coming. I stated that I live in Cary, which was about a 20 min drive, however, 40 min drive including the coming and going, however, all together that day I drove a total of 80 min. Once I arrived I explained my situation and the very friendly young man greeted me and was more than willing to resolve my issue. However, another worker told him that I only was supposed to get 3 large sides. When I specifically order (3) DOUBLE orders of sides. The same person that so kindly asked me to come back and said that they would fix the issue told me that if I wanted 3 additional large sides I would have to pay for them. I was going to leave and I should have just given it all back and got my money back, I feel like a fool for not doing so. Anyhow the worker stated you pay for two and I will give you one for free for your inconvenience, (how kind). I did it because it was fathers Day. What happened to good customer service, This was the worse customer service ever. I wasted time and gas and money I paid 42.00 for (5) Large sides and inconvenience, I love amazing customer service, however, it is their loss because I would have been a loyal customer. If you are looking for that kind of service save your time and money and go to Skippers located across the street.
