Went for an eye exam with a contacts fitting. The trial contacts they gave me were incorrect (toric lenses instead of asphere) and even after I went through the trouble of going back and getting them replaced, some (but not all) of the contacts in the pack were toric. I didn't notice until I was out of town and had only packed the incorrect lenses. I can't comfortably wear glasses after a recent nose surgery and went to every effort to make sure I would have contacts to wear, but The Eye Center foiled my best laid plans. I checked in at 10:45 (they said be there 15mins early) for an 11 am appointment. I left at 12:20 pm. The exam took 8 minutes with a very stressed out Dr. my eye scan and other evaluations took about 6 minutes so doing the math I was there 95 minutes and was waiting for 81 minutes in a very crowded waiting area. Went to The Eye Center located at South Point Mall and was very disappointed in the services provided. After picking up my glasses from LensCrafter I was wondering why I could not see any better with the new glasses. After doing some research into the situation it turns out that the RX written at the Eye Center is not accurate. After my visit now I recognize the red flags of eyes not being dilated and several other factors that unfortunately I can not share. The quality of service was very bad its almost like they are focuses on quantity of customers verse quality of service. Be warned. read more

Dr. Wong and the staff are great. But, the billing staff isn't. Never return a call or respond an email when we had a billing issue. At the time of the service, the staff said our insurance would cover the exams, but it wasn't. I didn't understand why they didn't catch it at first, and waited for a year later to send us the bills. I made an appointment for a eye exam to get new contacts. I received a text asking me to confirm the appointment which I did. Yesterday I got a text reminding me of the appointment & asking me to fill out paperwork which I did. I arranged my entire day around this appointment only to be told when I arrived for it that I didn't have one. I was then asked if I wanted to reschedule or wait around to see if someone didn't show up & naturally didn't want to do either one. This review is specifically for the Eye Center of the Southpoint mall. I have called at least 10 times over the course of 2 weeks to resolve a small issue. The 888 general number of all Eye centers in NC is unable to resolve it, and transfers me to the Durham Eye Center where NOBODY ever picks up the phone. terrible terrible experience. The "tech" did not perform a glaucoma pressure test and lied to the eye doctor and said she did. I also was not able to have my eyes dialated even though the email confirmation told me to come prepared for such and to have a driver or appropriate sunglasses due to the dialation. The eye doctor told me that my appt was scheduled too late in day (4:30pm appt) to have my eyes dialated - and would have to reschedule for that procedure. How much you want to bet my insurance company was billed for both the glaucoma test and the dialation - neither of which occurred in my appointment. read more

They never filed a claim with my vision insurance and tried to stick me with the bill which should've been covered. Too lazy I guess. By the time I found out, they had already sent my bill to collections. I've gone to them for years because I like the selection at Lenscrafters, their store next door. Great service, and equipment and friendliness. Make sure to wait for them to verify the coverage of your insurance, don't sign anything before that. They will pretend that it will take time for them to know the coverage of your insurance. Once you sign, there is no refund on services that you thought was covered by your insurance. There is a service called like "refactor photo" that costs $35 that is mostly not covered by insurances unless you need this service. I guess they should have the initiative to explain the services that you are signing up in. read more

I recently visited the Eye Center to get my eye exam/contact lens prescription. There was very little wait time and the staff was nice. This is a very fast-paced place, so the doctor was polite enough, but pretty quick and to-the-point. No problem for me, though, as I just wanted to get in and get out. The entire process took less than 45 minutes. If you don't mind fast-paced, then you'll like this place as well. read more

Dr. Esmail and her staff are awesome and thorough. Lens-crafter next door had the best selection of eye wear I've seen. And they take appointments past 5pm so you don't have to skimp on work or take a day off to get something as trivial as an eye check up. I only wish they took VSP. read more

I was in a pinch, needing progressive glasses and also contacts, and went here just because I could be seen the same day. I can't say enough about this place. I was so skeptical -- a good optometrist in the mall, of all places?! Really, service was impeccable. The doctor was fantastic and worked with me extensively on tinkering with my prescription. Their machines seemed state-of-the-art, and appear to leave little room for human error. Hard to believe, but I'm a convert and I'll be coming here for good now. Oh, and they gave a week's supply of contacts to try. Excellent, excellent service. read more

Still up to their old tricks. I recently had an eye exam and while the Doctor was very pleasant and professional, the billing situation is a mess. I received a verification call on Saturday to ask if I had insurance. After providing the info they told me they would have to run the insurance later as the phones with the provider were down. I go in on Sunday and the same story at the end of the exam. I was told I could pay out of pocket or wait for them to run my insurance the following day. Who would pay cash if the insurance is accepted and will cover the majority? So I ask them to run the insurance. Monday I get a call saying that I have limited coverage and I owed the lion share of the exam. I call my insurance company and they say I have full coverage and The Eye Center does not accept my insurance. My question is how the folks that work in the office don't know this? Why string me along for days when you know I will owe the full amount?!?!? Now I am on the hook for the bill to get my prescription. I come on here to write a review and see another complaint almost exactly like mine from 5 years ago which lets me know never to go here again, and I would advise you to stay away if you are reading this. read more

The workers at the front desk greeted me with a smile, the tech made my exam a very pleasant experience (even the dreaded air puff, haha) and the doctor was phenomenal. This was my first optometrist visit which was not to a large chain - I felt 'cared' for at THE EYE CENTER - as opposed to feeling like 'just another number' as I have felt at other places in the past. I was ten minutes early to my appt. & was seen immediately. The exam/procedures were all thorough - each part was explained to me in a way I could easily understand. All staff came across as genuine & knowledgeable. Dr. Besharat fitted me in the best feeling contacts I have ever worn. She explained that I did not need the MUCH more expensive type of lens - which I was talked into by my previous Dr. at Eye Care Assoc. I am seeing as well as ever + I have a few extra bucks left over from what I had expected to spend. read more

The few times I was evaluated at this facility were fine; however, I am appalled at their 'return' policy. I ordered a 30 day supply of contacts prior to deciding to proceed with lasik. I had called and asked about returning my order of contacts due to the surgery and was told fine, no problem, bring them to the office. When I brought my contacts into the store after receiving them via USPS, I was informed that not only are they charging me a $12 "restocking" fee, but I was told it would likely take a month for the doctor to sign off on my refund check. What a ripoff! Weird, especially considering I've bought contacts from them before on-site - meaning that they've had the prescription at their facility before and it would likely be beneficial to have my prescription contacts on hand for future customers with my prescription. "Restocking fee" is the most ridiculous thing I've heard. A sleazy way for them to make an extra buck. I won't be returning to this practice. read more

I've been to this location twice. It's not been good. The first visit a year ago, they somehow mischarged my insurance twice, and then forgot to change for my husbands visit. It was a mess to sort and the front desk staff acted like it was my fault that they double swiped my card. We went back today because the eye exam was solid and for sheer convenience. My appointment was at 11:30, and they didn't bother even having me sign paperwork until 11:50. I asked exactly how long it would be before I would be seen, and they said that it would be at least 15 mins longer and this is a "medical office." Frankly after texting, emailing, and calling five times you'd think they would keep their commitment to the time rather than taking every walk in that came in. So they won't get my business because they cannot seem to honor their commitment to the customer. read more

Had one of the best doctor visits ever at this location. The staff was incredibley polite and very efficient. I was well taken care of and the customer service is superb. There was no wait, I was in an out yet still felt like they took the time needed to do my exam and treat me like a valuable patient. The facility is clean and up-to-date with the latest in technology. They have what appears to be a brand new camera that takes pictures of your eyes in place of dilating them! They do not push you to purchase a Lenscrafters frame which is nice because I get a discount elsewhere. Would recommend them to anyone. read more

I left the exam room very upset. Dr. Basharat was irritated by my questions and was condescending. Every additional question was too much for her. Clearly she was unhappy to correct the prescription that she had given to me 3 weeks earlier. She emphasized the fact that Lenscrafters would have to make for me another pair of lenses (without additional charges). It looked like it was my fault that I couldn't read in my new glasses. I am very disappointed and definitely will not see Dr. Basharat in the future. read more

While the eye tests were fine (so they get 2 stars, rather than 1), I found that they require you to get an eye exam *every year* to renew contact lens prescriptions. They will not budge, and it's not worth my money or time to get my eyes checked every year when they are clearly fine. This year, I had extenuating circumstances, and they still did not care. I recommend finding an optometrist who is not so greedy and is more flexible with patients. They lost my business. read more

I have been to the eye center a few times and was always a pleasant experience . My appointment that I just had with them was a nightmare. The person that was helping me name was America. I have never experience such rude and unprofessional person in all my years. All her remarks and answers were disrespectful. Once all questions were answered I said to myself okay I will just talked with the manager on my way out. (her uniform was so tight and all her skin was showing) She said the doctor will be right in and by the way you kicked me. Surprise of her words again, I just grabbed my purse and left the room. I went to the front desk and asked for a manager and was told that there was not one there. They gave me a number to call. When speaking to the manger on the phone I proceed to tell her what had happened. Her response was there are two sides to a story and what do you want me to do at this time fire her. No I would like for you to speak with your employees about how important customer service is. She then told me that I was not going to be charged and I could just ask for my records and go to another eye doctor. Unbelievable. I have referred family members and co workers to The Eye Center. Now I can understand why the employees are so unprofessional. It might not matter to them but they have lost at least 15 to 20 customers because of this. When I asked them for the corporate number no one had a clue. Ok, so I went this location for a contact lens exam. They whipped through it which had me a bit concerned. I should have known then. I've been trying to get contact lenses that help me to see in the distance, without compromising my up close vision, which I don't have a problem with. After 3 or 4 visits (still not done), and on my 4th pair of lenses, they marked my record as final. EVEN after I told them that I couldn't see that far in the distance in my right eye, and that both lenses were uncomfortable. Both lenses gave me a headache that day, and then again on day 5 when I tried them again. What made it worse, they marked my chart with the wrong type of lens for the right eye! Really?!?!!!! Came back and they gave me a great pair of lenses to try, no complaints, EXCEPT they happen to be dailies - which cost $180 for a 3 month supply. Not doing it. So I asked for a monthly pair or bimonthly pair of lenses which do the same thing as the dailies.. The left eye great, the right eye... NO, NO, NO! Can't read up close, which wasn't the issue anyway. I have no problem with reading small print, or with up close vision. These people are supposed to be helping me with my vision for DISTANCE. When does it end? Isn't there a monthly lens, that is EXACTLY like the DAILIES that truly help with distance vision and don't compromise my reading?????? How can it be so complicated???? On my way back for a 5th or 6th visit... Hope it's the last, or I'll be contacting my insurance company to let them know. read more
