The two of us came here to get our sunglasses fixed. My favorite got his done while we waited. Great work. They were done flawlessly. What a quirkly little shop. Small little workspace. Bing Crosby playing. Specialized little tools. I love it. Unfortunately the owner doesn't do lenses. So I have my cute "chili bean" sunglasses (a brand that is exclusive to Brazil, where I bought them) with just one lens. And the lens is an awkward shape. Last year, Doug helped me find a replacement temple for my husband's favorite glasses. They were Raybans, which involved special ordering from Italy, and lots of time and effort on his part. He also kept me informed with phone calls throughout the process. I went back recently to have my sunglasses adjusted after my daughter stepped on them. Now, they are selling frames and cutting lenses on sight. Again, so helpful and went above and beyond. I will be going back for new frames soon. read more

I read the other reviews and that set my expectations high. The location was easy to find with free street parking on Saturday but they close early. One person in line when I arrived but I didn't have to wait long, the conversation and music help to pass the time. When it was my turn my glasses were repaired and restored to "as new" condition within minutes. I was shocked when I tried them on and was able to look down without them falling off, especially since that was the only time I put them on. This man has a real talent! read more

Wandered in off the street on a rainy, cold winter day after I made an emergency stop at Parlour ice cream shop next door. As I tried to get back to my car, I noticed a small-ish sandwhich-board sign that said "Eyeglass Repair". I've already had some negative experiences with the turn&burn mall-style eyeglass purveyors in the area, so I'm wary. Now, I've been nursing the same pair of Koali frames for 10 yrs, they're the first pair of glasses I ever got, and cost me a pretty penny way back then, and it's a small Euro brand I found in a similarly small shop in California. And they had recently gotten pretty off kilter, so needed some TLC - I'd complained no less than 5 times in the last week, thus I was already subconsciously attuned to the opportunity for a fix. So when I walked in and Matthew Libby said, "ah, Koali, you've got good taste in eyewear" I knew I'd found the right guy! Matthew took the care and time to get these frames back in tip-top shape, all the while holding a genuine and interesting conversation. I hope that these guys get the business they deserve. They seem top notch. I'll be taking my other pair of glasses there very soon for new lenses. Mr. Riley is a great guy and embodies the type of old fashioned business ethic that I appreciate. My glasses only needed a very minor repair but he fixed them for free. I would give him 5 stars because I have nothing to complain about and am very grateful for his service but because I did not have a bigger issue I do not feel I really tested his skills. Therefore, I am 100% satisfied with the service I received but cannot evaluate his entire business since my repair was minor. Nonetheless, I would definitely recommend him. Located inside the business center, Riley's repair shop is a finding. The repair work done by Riley on my old eyeglasses was amazing. He brought back to life a frame that I had already given up on. I went there to try to extend the life of my frame for just 1 more month, and I left his shop with a brand new pair of glasses. He fixed it to perfection. These glasses never felt so good, they are probably even better and more adjusted to my face then when I first bought them, a couple of years ago. Last week I fell and crushed my glasses. I thought they were beyond repair and was mentally preparing for a huge replacement expenditure. I work downtown and happened to walk past the sandwich board that said eyeglass repairs. On a whim I took a chance and walked in with my mangled glasses. I had no wait, and watched the Wizard of Eyeglasses bring them back to life in 15 minutes. He charged a very reasonable price, explained what he was doing as he went along, and generally made the experience pleasant. Watching him work was fascinating. I went in to get a pair of sunglasses repaired (the temple hinge broke), and I was looking for a new pair of glasses. Mr. Libby sold me a new pair of glasses at a wonderfully reasonable price and even repaired my sunglasses (50$ repair) for free in less than 5 minutes! Wow, Mr. Riley not only quickly fixed my prescription sunglasses, but he educated me and explained the process throughout, while I waited. Both plastic ear pieces had snapped off, and I was left with the lens frame only. Mr. Riley immediately began looking for a pair of ear pieces within his large collection, soldered on the metal hinge to the plastic lens and attached the ear pieces. It's probably 50 times stronger than when I originally purchased them, he ensured that they fit well (weren't too tight or too loose) and I was able to walk out of there within 10 minutes with the sunglasses perched on my nose. Don't go to this place. Never. The man there appears to be professional, but I only wasted my 40 dollars there. The first time I brought a broken frame there, it took me three hours and 30 dollars but the frame fell apart again immediately I got home! The second time he spent three hours only to completely distort the frame. I had to get a new pair! So angry! read more

I was here earlier and am very impressed with the craftsmanship and expertise. Doug Riley is a very congenial man and is there for his customers; he'll honestly tell you of the risks each repair may incur!. My girlfriend broke the hinge on my glasses and he literally took a new hinge, used a dremel to shave off some metal, and then soldered it on w/ minimal loss of integrity to the arm. Exterior looks pristine, as good and solid as new! Saved me from tossing a 150$+ frame in less than a year. He charged me 25$-flat, not too bad. read more

We had my wife's glasses repaired while we waited today (09/07/13). She has an ESCADA frame which was fragile, and the earpiece hinges had very little strength. My wife's glasses broke at the hinge. A few visits here and there and we were afraid we would have to drop $400 for the eye test, new frames and new bifocal lenses. Then someone suggested we check out Mr. Riley in Durham. A short drive and then a half hour waiting and the glasses were soldered and better than new. All while Mr. Riley explained everything to us. All of this came at a very reasonable price (saved us more than 90% over a new pair!). He and his assistant were very nice as well. Wow, am I glad we found this place.
