And then to the person who sits in the section with the eyeglasses -- last time I was in there, there were two dead cockroaches on the floor, she was on her phone & my very presence was an annoyance. While I appreciated the lack of pressure sales, this was ridiculous. She barely looked at me as I asked questions about frames. I liked this office for its location & Dr. Woldorff but I will have to move on to another place that seems be fully focused on the patient.

I had originally purchased these Oakley's from Optical Reflections and thought I had lost them (later found!). Although I had a good buying experience eight years prior when buying the Oakley's I thought it would be wise to do some comparison shopping. I did a lot on on-line research before going out and actually visiting several optical shops in the Chapel Hill area. I had decided that I wanted to get some Maui Jim sunglasses this time around because as an avid boater, I learned that the Maui Jim's were highly regarded by boaters for their clarity in the marine environment. I found that although some of the other local shops (that carried the Maui Jim brand) were fine, I was treated especially well at Optical Reflections. Fred, (one of the two owners) actually remembered me, which I found amazing since it had been eight years. He was very knowledgeable about all the prescription sunglasses and yet not pushy. The shop had a very large selection and I was given lots of time to try on the various models. He offered good insight when asked but didn't try to steer me toward any particular choice . . . which I found quite comfortable. It took me two visits to the shop before I was sure of what I wanted. Once I decided on the particular model the ordering process was fast, efficient and accurate. I say "accurate" because when the glasses arrived about two weeks later I was thrilled with them. As a professional photographer the visual world is important to me and therefor I'm Ok with the higher cost of a quality optical product. This purchase has turned out to be one of my most satisfying buying experiences in a long time. The excellent service provided by Fred and the outstanding end result have inspired me to write this review.

When I first started coming here I had some bad contact lens habits (not throwing them away often enough, using the wrong solution, etc.) Dr. Chow took the time to thoroughly explain eyeball anatomy so that I could better understand why breaking these habits was in my best interest. He treated me like an intelligent human, which not every doctor does. (BTW, Dr. Chow, have you ever thought of calling this lecture "Eyeball Anatomy 101"?) After…read moreRay Ban cancelled my online order for the Meta Ray Ban Wayfarers due to my high prescription, they recommended me to go to one of the nearest Lenscrafters locations; As I said in my review for Lenscrafters in Southpoint Mall, they said that they're not able to sell Wayfarers with my high prescription. I also called the Lenscrafters in Cary, but same issue. So, I searched for an eyeglass shop close to me online, hoping to find one who can actually do it. So, I called the Durham Eyeglass Company, and the person over the phone asked for my prescription details, and after I told him the numbers, he said that they could do it but that I would need to get the Meta Ray Ban frames from somewhere else. I ordered the Meta Ray Ban Wayfarers with the sunstone colored frames on Amazon with non-prescription lenses, and a day after I received it, I went to Durham Eyeglass Company to drop off my Wayfarers for them to add prescription lenses. After a 30-minute drive, I reached the Durham Eyeglass Company, which is located in a suite in North Durham. When I entered, I was fascinated to see the various eyeglasses on display. Met Matthew there and he examined my new Ray Bans as he wrote my prescription details on a card. We had a friendly conversation about hobbies and careers. He also told me that he designs his own frames, and when I asked him the name of his brand of frames, he said it's "Bull City Eyewear", a name cleary inspired by the city of Durham. He explained my options for the transition lenses well, and said that it could be done in 1 to 2 days. I went went with the gray transitions, and he asked another employee to call the supplier of the lenses to ask for availability. He said that they're able to have the lens delivered the next day. I was happy to know that I would finally get Wayfarers with my high prescription. When I told Matthew about how the people at Lenscrafters in Southpoint Mall told me that they couldn't put the lenses I need, he told me that they just didn't want to do the harder kind of work that Durham Eyeglass is willing to do, and that they were able to craft lenses with higher prescription than mine. After confirming the kind of lenses I wanted, Matt asked if I wanted to pay half or full now, I went ahead paid in full. The price for my gray transition lenses with anti-glare seemed reasonable. It was close to the price of the Ray Ban frames but significantly less than what I would have paid if Ray Ban did not cancel my order. I left the frames there that day, and Matt said that they will call me once my new glasses are ready in 1 to 2 days. A couple days later, I woke up around 11:30 AM, and saw on my phone that I got a missed call from Durham Eyeglass Company at around 9AM. I called back and another employee told me that my Wayfarers were ready for me to pick up. I drove there again but this time, it was with my girl, and when we entered, Matthew was there to show the new prescription lenses in my Wayfarers. He also handed back the non-prescription lenses. Matt went on to show me how the lenses transition to gray; not sure what he did exactly but it was like magic. Durham Eyeglass Company is the most professional eyeglass shop I've ever been to, and Matthew is a professional master lens crafter who can craft lenses that Lenscrafters and Rayban can't do. They take more insurance plans than most places in this area and their provide exceptional care It took a few weeks to get in but the exam and fittings are a well-oiled machine with the doctor doing all the testing and exam instead of a tech which was nice. Dr. Sykes is very personable and attentive. He was able to find the right type of contact lens for reading and distance so I don't have to wear my wear my readers on the top of my head anymore. My husband goes here as well and they were very patient with teaching him how to use contact lenses. I like that it's smaller and patient-focused-not like the huge doc in a box places. I'd definitely recommend if you're looking for a place for all your eye care needs.

It usually takes 7-10 days and it has always fallen in that range. You get text reminders in plenty of time to make changes to your appointment and I e never had an issue getting a last minute appointment if needed.
