I needed to extend my stay in Chicago for two days because my boyfriend was in the hospital and The Emily Hotel took us in. Do book early, because the last minute bookings are pricey, at least around Thanksgiving. The lobby at the Emily is light and airy and has a great coffee shop. The Fora restaurant there serves great food and the staff were very attentive and kind. Even though I was just waiting for an order, they seated me, brought me a small pitcher of water, and made me feel welcome. The front desk staff were friendly, efficient, and courteous. When I asked for some changes they cheerfully went out of their way to help -- they showed a great deal of kindness throughout my stay. The rooms are minimalist but have everything you need, and have a kind of open charm. I liked that the sink was outside the bathroom. It makes it easy for two people to get dressed or ready for bed. The rooms overlooking the next building could use a layer of sheers inside the curtains, but privacy was not a problem. I liked The Emily very much. It is simple and imaginative, very comfortable, and suffused with kindness. read more

Shocking treatment of a breastfeeding mother & extreme disregard for 8 month old child. TLDR: hotel didn't send 3 days of breastmilk that was scheduled for overnight shipping, making it unusable and forcing baby to use formula for the first time. Offered $100 refund as recompense, after a 4 night stay at $300/ night (essentially 8% off), plus their causing the waste of a $400 breastmilk shipping service. My wife stayed at The Emily for a total of 4 nights. The first 3 were for a company trip, where about 30 others were there, and then she added on another night to enjoy the city. This was her first time being away from our 8 month old child overnight, and she set up a service to have her breastmilk overnighted back home. She pumped roughly 9 times, and took the milk to the front desk for pickup through a service called Milkstork. She provided the front desk a shipping label, and asked if she needed to schedule the pickup (it's easy to do through a QR code on the label). She was repeatedly told no, the hotel was happy to deal with all of that for her. Great! Or so she thought. This was Thursday morning, and we slowly realized that something had happened. Called the hotel Monday to figure it out. The manager assured me he'd look into it, and wouldn't you know it! We got a notification that it had been picked up by FedEx while we were working out what happened. We finally got the milk Tuesday evening, more than 3 days after we should have. By this point the milk was no longer viable (it was just in a fridge at the hotel), and had to be thrown away. Not only did this mean that the Milkstork services ($400.74) was a complete waste, but more importantly it meant that our son was now having to switch to formula for the first time in his life, as we were now multiple days behind on his supply for daycare. Formula is great of course, but any parent knows the transition from milk to formula is a complicated emotional process. So a terrible emotional moment for us as parents, and an unnecessary change to our child's health and wellness. When the manger got back to me, after having done "an investigation", he informed me that they would take $100 off our stay, and that was it. The cost of one nights stay was $299, and the Milkstork service was $400, not to mention the other 3 nights of stay with the company. He said that it was my wife's fault for not scheduling the pickup (she was emphatically told not to), and apparently took no issue with the fact that, even in his best case scenario in which my wife was a terrible liar, the hotel had our child's food in a fridge for 4 days without alerting us in anyway that there had been an issue. The manager was very polite in giving this absurd answer, but extremely dismissive of the issue. The lack of empathy was stunning. Clearly he is not a parent, or he would have understood what a huge problem this was. I didn't expect anything crazy, but to offer such a small amount of recompense shows what they think of their customers. Awful and shocking experience. read more

The Emily Hotel is perfectly situated in the West Loop of Chicago, walkable to many shops and restaurants. It's in a great location. The hotel itself is clean and they offer valet parking. I booked an accessible standard king room (by mistake). The room was clean but very basic. There was a stocked mini fridge and a coffee pot in the room, as well as a safe and close steamer. The carpet felt industrial and was not plush. The king size mattress sat on a metal frame with no boxspring. The bathroom sink was outside the bathroom and small. It could have used a shelf underneath for a couple's toiletries. The bathroom had a shower that was accessible for a wheelchair and a toilet. Even though there was a closet with plenty of space, there were no drawers to use. I thought this may have been because it's an accessible room but going through photos on their website, I noticed the sink was outside the bathroom for other rooms offered. There's a coffee shop on the first floor as well as a restaurant and bar. The bar had a fantastic bourbon selection. The staff at the hotel was friendly and engaging. I had a bad fall in the room hurt my knee, badly cutting it in three places. Because it was late at night there were no pharmacies open, but the front desk staff gave my husband antiseptic cream and plenty of bandages. They offered to take me to the hospital as well. I chose Emily because it was a three minute walk from a fundraising event I was attending last weekend in the area. All in all, I would stay here again just for the location if I had another event in the West Loop or visiting our kids who live in the West Loop even though it's pretty bare bones basic. I wouldn't consider it a luxury boutique hotel, though. I stay in Chicago quite often in the theater district at a couple of boutique hotels and this one would be the bottom of the list of hotels I've frequented. read more

We swung by Emily hotel during our st pattys bar crawl. The entry was smooth. Overall, loved the ambience and they even had a small st pattys rave going on. The music and the atmosphere were great. Bathrooms were well maintained despite the crowd. The drinks were very pricy though. read more

This is my first time in Chicago, came here for business with Sola Salons. Our entire network stayed here and we've had such a wonderful experience. Our work conference was here in their event space and we also stayed here. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted from Demetri, Management and the concierge team. My flight arrived earlier than anticipated and Demetri was able to check and see if my room was available earlier and luckily got me in, but while I was waiting I was offered a beverage. From the start the guest experience was wonderful. It really set the tone for our stay here, since I was new to the area, I asked him for lunch recommendations near by and he gave me a list of a few places near by since I had time to kill before our event. The corporate event space was spacious. The elevator event signs were a nice touch. We were served breakfast and lunch with Fora the restaurant inside the hotel and it was amazing. Everyone enjoyed the wait staff and the food always came on time. Five stars for the staff, Management, organization, service, restaurant food and cleanliness. I've stayed at many hotels in large cities like NYC and this is the gold standard for service. read more

Lots of positives to this place--easy check in. They'll send you an online check in a couple days before your arrival and you can share your anticipated arrival time so that they'll have a room ready for you. This was great because we expected to arrive by 2:00, which would be considered early for some hotels. All staff we encountered were friendly and happy. There's a coffee shop on site with some great options. They have a happy hour 1-3 with discounted items. Great! Sadly they were out of cold brew, which was what both my husband and I wanted. So I opted for an iced hazelnut latte and my husband got a drip coffee. Both delicious! There is also a cute restaurant but we didn't get a chance to check it out. Minibar options in the room! A bottle of Tito's for just $22...honestly not bad at all. They also featured local Chicago beers and snacks. The robes! Very cozy. With all that said, there were also a few negatives. The rooms are sparse, small and cold in their industrial style. There's a single uncomfortable chair, so you basically have to sit on the bed. The bath tub seemed like a bit of a safety hazard. Really, really high to get over. After taking a shower I understood the necessity of the grab bar. Also there's no fan in the bathroom. Our room looked squarely at another building, some kind of office, so privacy is to be considered. Overall, though, very happy with our stay and glad we checked it out! read more

Mediocre valet and check-in experience... a little clunky and disorganized but the lobby is sleek and modern while still feeling warm and welcoming. Room was a good size, but zero views given that it is 4 stories and surrounded by larger buildings. The bed is essentially on the floor but comfy, minimal decor, one chair, limited storage but we were only staying one night... I was not a fan of the sink and mirror being in the center of the room (versus the bathroom). As an early riser, it was a disruptive to brush my teeth, freshen up, etc. while my wife was sleeping. After dinner down the street at Aba (highly recommend), we had a couple of drinks at Selva... good cocktails and staff was uber friendly. The valet process at check out was smooth. The attendant was very friendly and took our things out to the car while we grabbed coffee in the lobby Cafe. . read more

We booked a room block at The Emily Hotel for our September 2025 wedding and were very disappointed with our overall experience working with them. From day one, nearly every step of the process was frustrating. We live in New York and traveled back to Chicago to tour the hotel before booking. The person originally scheduled to give us the tour was unavailable at the last minute, and we were instead shown around by someone who was new. While we understand that these things happen, they were unable to answer any of our questions during the tour, requiring follow-up afterward, and communication following the visit was extremely poor. For months while we were trying to book our room block and gather information about pricing for hosting our rehearsal dinner and after party, the hotel was largely unresponsive. We were repeatedly passed between multiple contacts without ever receiving clear or consistent answers. This resulted in months of follow-ups and made an already complex planning process unnecessarily stressful and time-consuming. Despite booking our room block a full year in advance, when it came time for guests to reserve their rooms, we discovered that the rates on both the hotel's own website and third-party booking sites were cheaper than our contracted room block rate. When we raised this concern, the hotel refused to lower our contracted rates. Instead, they instructed us to have guests book separately and then manually add them to our room block, which created extra work for us and significant confusion among our guests. The room block contract itself was extremely vague and open to interpretation. Even though our total spend exceeded the minimum requirement and the total number of rooms booked across two days also exceeded the minimum, we were still forced to pay for three unused rooms. Adding to the frustration, we were notified by our coordinator just two weeks before our wedding that there were protests taking place at and against the hotel which made us nervous our guests would be greeted by protestors on our wedding weekend. Finally, we booked their most expensive suite and ~40 guest rooms and yet they could not provide us early check in on the day of the wedding, forcing us to purchase another night of the suite (in addition to the three rooms we were forced to pay for that went unused). The Emily is one of very few hotels in the area and is conveniently located next door to our wedding venue, Morgan's on Fulton. From the beginning, it felt like the hotel leaned heavily on that fact, maintaining an attitude of "you need us more than we need you," and they were not accommodating with any of our requests. While the hotel rooms themselves were nice, they were extremely expensive. Given how much we paid, the level of service and overall experience fell far short of expectations. We would not recommend this hotel to couples looking for a smooth, supportive wedding hotel experience. read more

Being in Fulton Market and walking distance to West Loop was the best perk. The hotel was clean and the employees were nice. If there were "perks" we didn't take advantage of them. If you drive, park at the Google building for $50/day instead of the $75/day The Emily Offers. I'd stay here again! read more

If you're looking for the best hotel in Chicago, stay here!! Traveling from the suburbs, this hotel is easy to get to with parking right around the corner, or if you prefer, valet! You get a small boutique vibe based on the attention to detail, cleanliness, and welcoming service throughout. The bed is SO comfy and we love the rooftop bar, Selva. Talk about the perfect happy hour bites- the tacos and chips/salsa and Paloma hit the spot!! (We also ended our night with espresso martinis from selva which were perfect.) COVID did a number on businesses, and this coffee shop is opened since winter 2022 in the same spot as the former Stumptown coffee (and in the former Ace Hotel--now the Emily Hotel). Design elements are similar but the menu has changed. Standard coffee shop fair, full supply of pastries and they have salads on the menu (and a burger? which I presume comes from the restaurant kitchen next door). I grabbed an iced coffee because they were out of cold brew. Staff were friendly and fast. Location is still great--across the street from Google and nearby other West Loop spots. Definitely want this spot to survive as surprisingly, there aren't as many coffee shop options good for getting some quick work done as you'd like in West Loop (Princi nearby just closed for instance; Colectivo befuddingly refuses to install wifi). read more

We stayed here for my sisters wedding weekend. For a boutique hotel, the rooms were a good size and the walls were thicker than most boutique hotels I've stayed in. That might sound silly but we were close to the elevators and I never felt like I heard people constantly coming up and down to the floor or people talking in the hall. I had some issues dealing with reservations and confirmations for my stay. Once I arrived it was all sorted out which is good. For what the hotel offered, this place definitely did the trick and the have a nice size lobby with lots of seating which we took advantage of every day. We visited the coffee shop each day too to get a quick cup in the morning. Overall we had a good stay. read more

The Emily is deceiving. You walk up to a beautiful front with a gorgeous lobby, great restaurant and bar, but the awe turns to awful as soon as you get out of the elevator and onto your room's floor. After exiting the elevator, I thought I was in the wrong place. A terrible dirty carpet leads you to a room that looks like something in a psych ward at a hospital. The bed is an overgrown hospital bed with sandpaper sheets. The bathroom reminds me of a hospital bathroom as well (seems it was modeled off the maternity ward, to keep with the hospital theme). Our TV didn't work, either. I'll never stay here again, and can't in good faith recommend anyone else stay here. I'll be back for cocktails and dinner sometime, though. read more

The Emily Hotel, which replaced the relatively short lived Ace Hotel, feels in almost every way to be the exact same or a little worse than its predecessor. The room was clean, and the staff were friendly. Yet, the walls are paper thin--we could hear the couple next door loudly copulating, and we were treated to the chatter of the housekeeping staff. The television was not easy to use; channels would display as "not available" unless we followed some nonspecific instructions to restore the functionality. The radio in the room didn't work. Essentially, it seems like The Emily Hotel eyes a minimalist and sustainable business model at boutique prices. The location is incredible, but the hotel could be better. Just wanted to share my wonderful experience with the cafe staff! It is so nice to have a cafe close to work and it makes a huge difference that the staff is so welcoming and friendly. Leah has been there since I started working next door and has been nothing short of AMAZING! She is so welcoming, personable, always smiling & just a breath of fresh air! Former Ace Hotel, nothing like the other Ace hotel we stayed in which was great (Brooklyn). Th Emily is pretty drab, dull hallways, ugly carpeting, rooms are basically unadorned concrete. Our room was on the back side, 4th floor, view of nothing but air conditioning equipment on the building next door (room 434). There was a faint but audible random and frequent high-pitched beeping all night that we couldn't locate. Several different noise sources come on and off (in-room air, something in the bathroom, the next door AC equipment. Luckily we're staying only one night... Overall not a good experience, I'd recommend saying somewhere else. read more

This hotel's staff did a great job handling a couple of problems we had during our one-night stay. They are caring and competent. A noise problem caused by another guest was satisfactorily taken care of in the middle of the night. We also were able to get a last minute checkout extension. This was my first time staying at The Emily and my experience was impeccable! The ambiance in the lobby is fantastic and I really love the lobby color scheme. They have a coffee bar, a restaurant, and a rooftop bar. I didn't try the restaurant but the rooftop was great for a group of friends or night cap. The coffee bar was perfect since it was right inside the lobby for the mornings. I really loved the location to all of the restaurants nearby too. The room was modern/industrial and I really liked the big windows that brought in great light in the mornings. It was nice to have a snack bar and drink bar in the room--I loved that they had a lot of water at the snack bar and it was inexpensive to add to the room. The service from the staff was outstanding as well! I highly recommend this hotel. read more

Our night at The Emily Hotel was unfortunately not a great experience. We are parents of a toddler and were excited to "treat" ourselves to an Executive King Suite that looked very luxurious. Our experience started when I tried to make a reservation. I completed the online reservation. I paid at the time of reservation but received no confirmation email. So I called the following day to confirm. They said that they did not see a reservation. So I made a reservation on the phone for a deluxe room. The morning of our arrival at the hotel I called to see if we could check in early. They asked if I was aware that there were 2 reservations under my name. I said I was not and asked if they could remove the executive room and we can keep the deluxe. They said they couldn't because I already paid. So they canceled the deluxe room. When we first walked into our room and noticed the toilet seat was broken (the seat itself was crooked, wobbly and coming off the toilet frame). While we were getting ready to go out for the afternoon we tried to turn the tv on and noticed it was not a smart TV, as advertised on their website, but basic cable. The channels would not load, aside from Food Network, and randomly the "speaker" icon on the tv would come right in the middle of the picture and not go away. When we called down to the front desk they had an engineer come up and try to reprogram it. He was very kind and apologetic. He said that the hotel was in the process of moving over to smart TV's and we had one of the older versions. He unfortunately could not get our tv to work. We decided to finish getting ready and have one of their snacks offered at the bar in the room. We opted for the large pretzels. My husband took one bite into his and looked down and noticed it was covered in dark green mold (picture attached). We called down to the front desk, again, to make them aware. They said they would remove it from our hotel expenses. We left for the afternoon. When we came back we wanted to chill and watch tv which continued to not work. My husband called the front desk and spoke with the manager at the time, Van. He was nice and tried to accommodate us (gave us a $100 voucher for food/drink). However, the sheer number of problems we encountered were insurmountable and inexcusable given what we paid for the room ($400 with tax). Van said he would like to move us to an upgraded room but none were available. He gave us a cable that linked our phone to the tv in hopes for us to stream something-but that did not include: Prime, Netflix, Hulu, Disney or any other common streaming services. So that was also unsuccessful. Around 6:30 my husband called down to room service, pressing the "room service" button on the phone. We were told they do not have room service anymore due to "Covid." At about 10pm that evening our refrigerator started to beep and would stop. So...again... my husband had to call down to the front desk. The engineer came back up and said the fan in the refrigerator was broken. Not only were we mad, but also sad that our one night off as parents was spent dealing with one frustration after another. I booked a standard king room online for a total of $268 (including tax and fees). I was told there's a $75 fee hold for incidentals. $368 and some change were held in my card. The math didn't add up and the guy who checked us in wasn't friendly, but I let it slide because I didn't want my day ruined. The room was basic but pretty clean. There's a cute mini bar area with snacks and a few alcohol choices. The restaurant on the first floor was nice (Fora). We had a good meal there. We checked out Sunday morning and left without a receipt or anything letting us know what we paid. I was told the invoice would be emailed to me. The desk clerk confirmed my email address. It's now Tuesday, and I still have no receipt/invoice and $368 is still held on my bank card. Never have I stayed at a hotel and left with no receipt. There's basically no service. If you're expecting to relax in your room and watch TV, DO NOT book at the Emily. Somehow, they've let their technology go un-serviced and apparently all rooms have malfunctioning televisions. The "screenshare" feature apparently only works with Samsung phones, not iPhone. Furthermore, the upgrade on the reservation was not honored despite having booked for several nights. Amazing hotel in a great location. We like to split out time between Wicker Park and Millennium Park area and Wicker Park was about a $10 Uber and Millennium was about $15. Parking is right across the street - expensive but not any more so than any other parking garage in Chicago - plus was heated and great security. The hotel was quiet but had a great restaurant and coffee bar with an AMAZING BEC sandwich. Price was great also. Only downside was we didn't get reservations for the curling lanes, which would've been super cool but we're understandably all sold out by the time we stayed, definitely our fault for not thinking ahead. The gym might as well be closed, the machines barely work and honestly are not safe cause they are missing straps and you can't even turn most of them on. Not sure who runs the coffe shop but the barista who has been there yesterday 2/16/24 and today 2/17/24 around 2:45pm is the rudest service worker I've ever met. I also work service industry in the west loop and stop in for coffee before work and she makes it appear that pouring a simple drip coffee is the most difficult thing in the world.
