Great spot for lunch in Wallingford...very clean, polite, very fresh ingredients. I love a good tuna sandwich and this one was one of the best I've had. Loads of tuna salad, topped with generous serving of bacon and the surprise ingredient, sweet corn, added a nice texture pop! L&T finished it off. As usual, I ate half and saved the rest for later. The chips they put in for free were perfect with it, I think they make them there. I've been here once before for a salad, also very good. My only note is that if you want the curbside pickup you have to download the app (no thanks), you cannot call in an order for curbside. read more

I have gone to the eatery many times for healthy choice lunches. They have an extensive menu with lots to choose from if you were a healthy conscience I definitely recommend. Parking can be a little bit tricky. I have had Panini's and sandwiches as well their soups are great to. read more

The Eatery is a warm hug. The lettering and typography work is beautiful, the service is pleasant, and the food is great. There are lots of tempting snacks, all-day breakfast options and energy balls as well as kombucha, teas, and specialty seltzers and sodas. It's the kind of place to bring a coffee meeting or book club, or swing by for a quick breakfast sandwich or work lunch. Highly recommend. Only ONE note: the coffee isn't great (At least not yet.) This is my top place to go to for lunch. There are many places to eat in the area but I often choose The Eatery as my first choice. I have had most items on the menu and they never disappoint. They often exceed my expectations too. The daily specials always a fun and nice surprise. I always order takeout in advance so I don't need to wait when I get there. There is a small amount of seating but I imagine most people get food to go. I wish they offered more high-protein wraps but their sandwiches are quite good. read more

Spontaneously stopped in here with a friend for a late lunch. It's a very cute space, with about 10-12 chairs and 4 tables inside. (There is some outdoor seating, but it overlooks a cemetery, which is my guess as to why no one was sitting out there.) There are lots of great-looking sandwich options, but we opted for the single vegetarian option, the Cypress Garden ($8). I was a little skeptical at first, but it was seriously one of the best vegetarian sandwiches I've ever had. The chickpea smash and goat cheese were a winning combination, and the grilled veggies had a smoky flavor. If they do veggies this good, I can't imagine how good their meat options are, haha. They do have a bathroom, but they don't make it very public. It's back behind the building in their warehouse space. It's an interesting "tour" there. read more

Met a friend here for lunch a few weeks back. I was excited to try this place after reading all the great reviews. I was impressed by the revelation that the establishment works with local produce farmers and uses cage free eggs in the egg wraps. I liked the decor, the blackboard menu listing the creative sandwiches. The place was very clean. I ordered a garden salad and while I was given a generous helping, I would've liked to have seen a few more veggies in it. Lettuce, tomatoes, cukes and red onions is a bit boring --thinking it would have been great to have some shaved carrots, red cabbage or radishes for a fuller color palette. I would have liked a few more choices for dressing as well. I got the Matador sandwich--warmed--on a most divine ciabatta roll. Excellent. Unfortunately, no fresh brewed iced tea or lemonade and it seemed only bottled drinks were available (other than coffee and hot tea). There are not many places to sit and the smaller tables are very uncomfortable, so probably not the best choice to meet up with a friend for a leisurely lunch. I would like to go back and try some of the other menu items. read more

This is not only the sandwich place Wallingford wanted--it is also the sandwich place that Wallingford needed. And in that way, The Eatery is even greater than Batman. Surrounded by decrepit restaurants that have grown bitter with every passing winter, The Eatery is a welcomed boost of youthful energy and boundless flavors. It's my sincere hope that every other restaurant nearby learns a lesson from this fantastic place--or dies for stubbornly refusing to do so. The owner and master chef, Jon, is just about the nicest guy I have ever met. It must be contagious because The Eatery was surrounded by wonderful people enjoying the lovely weather and delicious food. It's almost like there is a bubble around The Eatery where you can actually meet kind people and get consistently good food any day of the week. Except Sunday. The Eatery is closed on Sunday. The prices are reasonable here and the recipes are quite original. There are no chairs inside the place. However, there is good reason for this. If you sat down, you simply would never leave. The hip interior, boasting an exposed beam and custom paint job compliment a well-stocked fridge full of Foxon Park and other great local drinks. Despite tons of customers, the wait isn't very long--which is a little unfortunate because I wish I could stay at The Eatery even longer. read more

Holy cow, I want whomever designed this place to design the interior of my house. It's soooooo cool, hip, and homey looking. It could easily pass for a granola-loving hippie sandwich shop in Burlington or Montpelier Vermont. I did not expect to find something like this place in Wallingford CT (I don't mean to knock Wallingford. I actually like Wallingford). The basic sandwiches will cost you $6, but the ones off of the standard menu will cost you up to $9. That's a little pricey for what you'll receive. My Mesa Verde sandwich was good, but it wasn't $9 good. It's not like they have any extra expense of running a dining area. Because there is none. The Eatery is 100% take-out. So the slightly high price and no dining area are really the only two negatives I can think of. Everything else seemed fantastic and I'd likely return. read more

The food was amazingly good! Service impeccable! We were driving through from a barber show and originally we are from Seattle, Washington. The service was very warm I wish I remembered the ladies name, but we were not sure what to order but she made sure to let us know we could adjust and get things on the menu. With a complete lack of healthy, sustainable and locally sourced restaurants in the Wallingford area, The Eatery is a rare find for breakfast or lunch either on the go or seated at their intimate location. As someone who lives in the Fairfield County area of Connecticut and works in Manhattan where local, organic and natural eateries lurk around every corner, I can attest to the fact that the selection in upstate Connecticut is skeletal. For Wallingford residents, your main choices for this type of fair are Pure Alchemy Juice Bar and The Eatery. For those familiar with Alchemy (which I will be reviewing separately) you'll note that the food options tend to boarder on what i'd call "extreme-vegan" (hemp walnut pesto...wtf?) and their selection isn't nearly as good. The Eatery is a happy medium and a breath of fresh air, offering up delicious food while also using local ingredients. The Eatery really does have something for everyone. Want an egg and cheese sandwich with Turkey and Jalapeno relish? The Eatery's got that. Want a Caesar Chicken salad? The Eatery's got that. Want a grilled chicken and apple smoked bacon sandwich between two glazed donuts? The Eatery's even got that (aptly called The Bronut and not even remotely one of their healthy options, but hot damn it's delicious!). My favorite things to order are their quinoa bowls and their 7am breakfast sandwich (egg, apple smoked bacon, pico de gallo and avocado...to die for!) The Eatery also offers a delicious local blend of coffee either iced or hot. The staff behind the counter always take and provide you with your order quickly and with a smile. They're keen on recommending a dish based on your palate and will also make any and all substitutions you would like (my girlfriend is a vegan and they'll put tofu or take meat out of anything). If dining in, you'll be comfortable in an intimate space surrounded by artwork from local artists and calming music to accompany your meal. Whether you're looking to pick up a quick sandwich on the way to your kids sporting event or to take on the road before work, need a quaint little spot to spend a lunch break or just love solid, organic food with fresh ingredients, you will find NOWHERE in a 10 mile radius as good as The Eatery. Absolutely love this place! It's nice to always be greeted by a friendly face and a beautiful menu board. I'm constantly tempted by the Instagram pictures of the specials. Mesa verde sandwich is my favorite for sure - but the quinoa bowls are equally delicious! I took my grandma and her friend here for lunch one day and they loved it. This place is great. It is smaller than expected but people move through pretty quickly. I took a table in the corner to do some studying and wasn't bothered. It stayed pretty quiet. The food was great, I ordered a second sandwich to take home for dinner. I would definitely recommend eating here. I especially love the quote "Let your speech always be with grace. This has become the best sandwich shop in Wallingford. My wife and I order from The Eatery several times a month, exploring the menu all over, and have never been disappointed. My go-to's are The Rittenhouse The Fisherman, and Mesa Verde, though honestly you could throw a dart at the menu to choose randomly and still know you will get something fresh and delicious. Love this place! I have to say, I had no clue what to expect when I pulled up. This little cafe is perfect for a quick lunch stop but has limited seating so be warned. They have lots of veggie friendly and low calorie options as well - the menu mostly consists of sandwiches, paninis, wraps, soups and salads. Today I tried the special squash panini - it was SO GOOD. I have ordered several things from this place and been here many times. I always get a good meal, and leave feeling very satisfied! One of my favorites is The Douglas. I am actually not a spicy fan, but the cranberry jalapeno relish matches perfectly and gives the sandwich a little something extra! The Nutella Panini needs to be something that everybody tries at least once, especially if you are a Nutella fan!! I always love getting a Bronut when they serve them. Such a guilty pleasure! My boyfriend and I are also obsessed with the apple fritters. I'm pretty sure we buy them out every time we go and find the apple fritters (and my boyfriend is picky on apple fritters!!!). The staff is also very friendly and always so welcoming. There is an older lady who works there who always has nice conversations with me, and I'm always happy when I see her working there. My one "complaint" is that this place is not open longer. I can only enjoy them on weekends because I work in New Haven, and by the time I get back to Wallingford, they are already closed for the day. Oh well! read more

I ordered the Matador (#3) and it was excellent, next time I know to order with a bit more horseradish (because its that good). A friend got me a gift certificate to try this place a while ago and I finally got around to coming in. I have passed by for a couple of years thinking it was just a catering company (which it is also). The space is very industrial modern and spotless. A friend and I shared 2 sandwiches: #4 [The Fisherman] * tuna salad, applewood bacon, roasted corn, sliced tomato, romaine | 8, #10 [Savannah Chicken] * grilled chicken, baby spinach, mandarin oranges, goat cheese, honey bacon dressing | 9. Both were very fresh and delicious. They have 2 soups and at least one special sandwich each day. The soup we wanted ran out (at 12:01). Apparently it was from the day before and only one or two orders remained. Odd. I look forward to coming back to try some other menu and specials items soon. read more

So my mom and I went here on a whim to try something new. The atmosphere was definitely a hipster vibe, but we were ok with that. The staff were all very friendly and nice. My mom got a grilled cheese and I had a build your own grilled veggie wrap. It came to around $13 The wait for the food was minimal. Fast service. My mom loved her grilled cheese. I stole a bite and can say it was excellent. My veggie wrap was ok. The grilled veggies were drowning in oil which was unpleasant and made the wrap wet. The veggies that were on the wrap were eggplant, zucchini, red leaf and iceberg. It all tasted ok, but they didn't seed the eggplant! With every bite you got a hard seed in your teeth. It was also very chewy and hard to bite off. The mozzarella I had on it seemed almost non-existent. The wrap also needed salt. My dill pickle was good though! I'm not saying this place is bad, but I personally was not impressed enough to go back. I'm sure their meat wraps are better. read more
