A friend got me a gift certificate to try this place a while ago and I finally got around to coming in. I have passed by for a couple of years thinking it was just a catering company (which it is also). The space is very industrial modern and spotless. A friend and I shared 2 sandwiches: #4 [The Fisherman] * tuna salad, applewood bacon, roasted corn, sliced tomato, romaine | 8, #10 [Savannah Chicken] * grilled chicken, baby spinach, mandarin oranges, goat cheese, honey bacon dressing | 9. Both were very fresh and delicious. They have 2 soups and at least one special sandwich each day. The soup we wanted ran out (at 12:01). Apparently it was from the day before and only one or two orders remained. Odd. I look forward to coming back to try some other menu and specials items soon. read more

So my mom and I went here on a whim to try something new. The atmosphere was definitely a hipster vibe, but we were ok with that. The staff were all very friendly and nice. My mom got a grilled cheese and I had a build your own grilled veggie wrap. It came to around $13 The wait for the food was minimal. Fast service. My mom loved her grilled cheese. I stole a bite and can say it was excellent. My veggie wrap was ok. The grilled veggies were drowning in oil which was unpleasant and made the wrap wet. The veggies that were on the wrap were eggplant, zucchini, red leaf and iceberg. It all tasted ok, but they didn't seed the eggplant! With every bite you got a hard seed in your teeth. It was also very chewy and hard to bite off. The mozzarella I had on it seemed almost non-existent. The wrap also needed salt. My dill pickle was good though! I'm not saying this place is bad, but I personally was not impressed enough to go back. I'm sure their meat wraps are better. read more

Adorable, crafty cafe with an interesting menu full of delicious options. Upon entering, the person behind the counter gave us a tour of the menu and suggested some of their favorite lunch items. I was impressed by the decor and the rainy umbrellas coming from the ceiling. The chicken, pesto, mozzarella, roasted pepper sandwich was excellent. The tuna, corn, romaine, tomato sandwich was not quite as good, but still had a good flavor profile. Everyone was very friendly. We enjoyed our time here! read more

I love this place! They are super good with gluten allergies and making sandwiches that taste amazing even without the gluten! The lunch options are probably my favorite but somehow the simple egg sausage and cheese breakfast sandwich has become a staple of mine. The coffee is great not too acidic! The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the days they are closed! The amount of times I've tried to go on a Sunday or Monday and forgotten they were closed is too many and a bit disappointing when I'm craving it! read more

I decided to sample a local eatery on my drive back from a car dealership in Wallingford to my home base in New Haven. A quick search on Yelp for eateries revealed The Eatery. Aptly named. I walked in and ordered the #5 Cyprus Garden, which is grilled eggplant and zucchini, roasted red pepper, chickpea smash, goat cheese, on ciabatta. I did the 50/50 combo (half sandwich, half soup) with a white bean and kale soup. I dined in. The staff were very friendly, and the food was decent. The soup came out a bit lukewarm. The sandwich was tasty (especially the goat cheese) but perhaps a bit undersalted for my taste. Unfortunately, my iced coffee required me reminding them twice. However, the food was fine and it was comfortable place to sit after eating and work off my laptop. The ambience was exactly what I was looking for. read more

Finding this wonderful place was like taking a walk on a beach and suddenly finding a colorful shell that you just have to put in your pocket and take home because it's so special. My wife and I tried The Eatery for the first time yesterday and were both blown away by the sandwiches, service and atmosphere. This is a little gem that just serves up great tasting sandwiches and salads in a clean and friendly place. The flavors incorporated in the food perfectly blend together. The menu is ample and varied. Every item looks so inviting. The staff was very friendly and helpful, as well. The atmosphere was peaceful and friendly. We enjoyed our lunch so much that we drove there again today (from Cheshire). This is our new go-to restaurant for lunch. Give it a try. I went here with a friend on Saturday afternoon due to other Yelp reviews of this restaurant. I ordered the Matador and my friend ordered the pear and Brie grilled cheese sandwich. I stole a bite of my friend's sandwich and it was delicious! As for my sandwich, the ciabatta was a bit hard but the roast beef was super cold. It was still very tasty, but I wished they toasted the entire sandwich so that the roast beef is either hot or room temperature. The restaurant itself is very cute. I loved the menu board they have with the reclaimed wood. I will definitely be back, but maybe for a different sandwich! read more

I was shocked to see I hadn't reviewed the Eatery yet because it is my favorite lunch spot in town! 1. Kid friendly! My almost 2 yr old son loves everything he's eaten there (especially a nice cut up mesa verde) but they do have a children's menu & they have a little puzzle to entertain. The decorative lights are super cool to look at too. 2. Food is out of this world! There are so many great options & also breakfast, GF & Vegan accommodations. My favorites are the Cypress garden & the Alex quinoa bowl. The donuts are also the best I've ever had (& I don't even like donuts) 3. Friendliest staff! There's a lot of great things about this new cafe in Wallingford. I can tell you that Wallingford has a myriad of restaurants, cafes, bars, and pizza places, especially downtown, so it's hard to rise about the rest, especially when it comes to bringing something new to the table. The Eatery, however, does just that. The Food: Fantastic, everything is fresh, and all natural ingredients are used for everything from soups, salads, subs, or even their fresh bakery items. The food portions are average, but filling, especially when coupled with a drink or soup on the side. They have a constantly evolving menu, and consistently offer different lunch take-out specials, dinners, and more. The best way to keep up is by liking their Facebook page. The Setting: The staff are all very friendly, and you feel like family when talking to them. The layout is extremely unique, combining an industrial and yet natural look. They have recently added a few tables and seating, so you're now able to relax, and maybe read some magazines while you eat. It's a comfortable place to eat, although most people take-out. Not great, not awful. A little hipster and pricey, but without the astute foodie aspects or handmade elements that I'm happy to pay extra for in a standard hipster menu. Staff was very nice. Food: Sandwiches were good, something I might make while camping with what I could find in Stop and Shop. Ham sandwich was generous with the meat, but I was let down by the benign slaw and standard mustard. No unique additions, no zing or no tartness to slaw, it played super safe. All this would take to elevate is one innovative ingredient: add locally harvested juniper berries to the slaw, or a sharp stinky local cheese. ---Ciabatta rolls weren't as bakery fresh as I would like. Buffalo chicken bacon sandwich had a good thick and flavorful bacon, but overall it was another safe and benign combo . Standard supermarket wing sauce (Tabasco? Frank's?) , standard squarely cut chunks of white meat chicken. Nothing is being innovated upon, nothing is being added to the conversation here. For example, they could slow roast dark meat chicken thighs in a house made seasoning rub and shred the meat, or if that's too time consuming they could make their own buffalo sauce. Prices: sandwiches were $8-$10 and a bit small for that price, coming with no sides. They sell bags of chips, but psychologically I feel they would do better to add a few chips to the sandwich plates just to fill it out and make people "feel" they are getting a bit more for the price point. Decor/ setting : Cute country barn wood chalkboard Etsy 2013 decor, across from a 1650s historic cemetery, and in a little downtown area with some promise. As a complete aside, and this in no way affects my review of the space..... I was Offended by the Christian biblical religious materials everywhere, bible verses painted on the beams, sayings in framed prints, bible verse on the bulletin board in back. It made me feel very unwelcome and I rushed through my meal. I consulted with my dining companion about his eating experience to make sure that I don't prejudice this review based on that. I LOVE this place! It's right around the corner from my workplace, the decor is great, and the food is amazing. The staff is also friendly and personable, and they make you feel welcome. My favorite thing about this place was the hot mulled cider, which they have unfortunately stopped selling. I would love to get my hands on the recipe, because it was the best cider I've ever had in my life! All that being said, pick anything...you really can't go wrong here. Finally got to try this spot out for lunch and I was not disappointed! The food is fresh and they have a selection of drinks that are different than most other sandwich shops. The spot is small but cozy and the decor is warm and inviting. The staff was friendly and helpful and could tell my sister and I had never been before so they gave us a run down of the menu. There are a lot of options for meat eaters and vegetarians so it's a great spot for breakfast or lunch for anyone that enjoys fresh made to order food. Their sandwhich combinations are a delightful balance of flavors. Their soups are almost as good as my own. The carrot and ginger soup is my favorarite. It has a intense sweet flavor. Their breads come from New York it just adds that taste. I go for lunch at least once a week. I would have to say the the only thing that needs improve is the customer service. That is my biggest pet peeve when I dine out is the poor oder taking skill. Here one of the woman has no clue on how it works, I had to asked for something that ordered eveytime I have been there. Great place to hang out for a bite to eat with a friend or two. The seating is definitely better for individuals or groups of two or three. The menu options are fantastic and I love the fact that they are more than willing to accommodate to special diets or alter ingredients simply for preference. I have to also HIGHLY recommend the Masella catering that is offered here. I had them cater for my wedding last year and it was a true pleasure working with them in picking out the dishes. They were very flexible and understanding about making changes to the menu selection. (Because they order a lot of their produce locally, I do strongly advise, out of courtesy, that any changes to a menu selection is mentioned at the very latest one week before the scheduled delivery.) So this is definitely one of my favorite places in Wallingford I've worked in the town for the last 7 years been going here the last 3. EVERYTHING IS GOOD. The soups change almost daily I would say and are always very home made tasting like something your mother would make.
