When traveling, my go to search criteria for morning breakfast is always "avocado ... something". Such terms are usually indicative of healthy breakfast options. Whether or not the dishes are capable of making healthy delicious is hit or miss. While in Wallingford for work, I stumbled upon The Eatery with my usual Yelp search criteria. This place lived up to the hype. I had a breakfast Harvest Bowl that wasn't only hearty but it was so delicious I visited two mornings in the row. I don't have a picture of the bowl because I ate it before I could snap a pic. :). Coffee is superb (as a black coffee drinker) and the ambience is just adorable. Especially love the steel beams incorporated into he decor. Who would have thought such a gem would be in Wallingford? I'll surely be back!! read more

What a nice cafe! This was my first time to The Eatery and I definitely will come back. Went here after a nice hike in Hamden and tried out one of their breakfast sandwiches. I got the "7am" which had avocado, fresh pico de gallo, applewood smoked bacon, caged free eggs and pepper jack cheese ... so delicious! I will be back to try out their regular sandwiches - the whole experience was great! read more

Delicious! We had egg sandwiches. Mine was sausage egg & cheese on a grilled ciabatta roll. The sausage was Italian. I asked for jelly on it & they served it with orange marmalade, which was delicious! My bf had the #7 egg sandwich on grilled multigrain. He really enjoyed it! Large portions. Their baked tofu is so out of this world amazing, tried to replicate it at home. Just can't be done! As a plant-based eater it can be hard to find something to eat out. Enter the Eatery. Throw that tofu on a quinoa bowl or salad, or my fave, swap meat out for the tofu on any sandwich. Breakfast sandwiches too! Super hearty and and a welcome change from many places where the only meat-free option is a plain salad. Oh, there is also chickpea smash which is totally vegan. There is also usually a vegan special on the board. The Eatery brings eaters of all kinds together! Not to mention the owners and staff are so friendly and kind. I kept seeing this place on my facebook feed and thought, I really need to go here. Was at work and driving by, so figured that I would try it. The inside is so inviting and CUTE! I ordered the #7 [Mesa Verde] * grilled chicken, bacon, fresh pico de gallo, avocado, pepperjack cheese - $9.00. I saw someone else really enjoy it on Yelp, figured I would give it a try. I was excited to sit down and have the woman give me a small glass of water - that was nice! I really enjoyed the Mesa Verde, but- for the price point of $9, you would think you get something--anything on the side? I was a little let down that my meal really didnt' feel complete. It would be awesome if it had some pasta salad, cole slaw, chips..something? I guess that is why I docked it 1 star. I was quickly hungry about a hour after leaving. The staff was cordial and the inside was clean and fresh (See pics) I would totally go back, but guess for the price I was wanting more. read more

I had the Cypress Garden (and made it vegan by taking out the goat cheese). This panini is really delicious, I've come back for it many times. The staff is super friendly and the whole vibe of the place is very cute, well decorated and hip. Also, the donuts (probably not vegan) are to die for. read more

I had the pleasure of finally stopping by and trying some of the sandwiches here a few weeks back and can confirm its deliciousness. I had the recommended Mesa Verde sandwich and also a seasonal sandwich with autumn starches and greens, which went just right for my fall visit. I have the pleasure of going a ways back with John Masella and couldn't be happier for him and all of those who have made The Eatery possible. I heard through the grapevine (Google) of its existence and find its atmosphere very warm and inviting due to such friendly staff. Sandwiches are meant to be cheap, simple delivery devices of the five food groups. While I admire the ambition of this new bistro, I think they've overcomplicated things a bit. My turkey sandwich was stuffed full of Boars Head honey maple turkey....maybe a bit too full. The bread was hard, so hard that I found it a challenge to bite through. Granted the ingredients here are all top notch, I left feeling strangely unsatisfied. Would definitely be willing to give the Eatery a second chance. read more

I've ate here and have ordered to go. A great place to take someone for a low-key, relaxed lunch in a hipster-vibe place. Great variety of options for both sandwiches and salads. One of my personal favorites is the Mesa Verde, which I ordered pictured here on ciabatta bread. Timely and friendly service each time I go here, would definitely recommend! This small cafe/resteraunt is absolutely amazing. From the unique, comfortable decor, to the incredibly friendly and helpful staff, this place is a gem. The food is so good! I got the bcb special and thoroughly enjoyed it. The four other people in my party were all extremely satisfied with their choices as well. I'm so surprised I haven't reviewed this place yet! Been coming here pretty steadily for a year or so. The food is incredibly fresh and locally sourced. The menu is diverse enough that you're not bored, but not so diverse that you can't decide what to get. That being said, I almost always go for the Mesa Verde. There's just nothing better. The pico is perfectly balanced, the bacon is thick and the chicken is fresh off the grill. I love it so much. And today, my husband tried The Mayflower - a special wrap with house roasted turkey, apple cornbread stuffing, cranberry sauce & maple roasted sweet potatoes - and he declared it one of the best things he has ever eaten (and he is NOT easy to impress so this is big time.) I think The Mayflower sells out pretty often - that's how good it is. Go to The Eatery to support GOOD food, cooked fresh, locally sourced, with owners who consisitently give back to their community. Everyone is pretty spot on with their pictures, I always forget to take a picture before I eat because I'm busy gobbling it down. The Savannah sandwich is the bomb, I've had it like 10 times (my punch card will show for it), that honey bacon dressing and goat cheese combo knocks my socks off. This is a clean and funky little take out place. I had the Savannah Sandwich -- grilled chicken, baby spinach, goat cheese, mandarin oranges with a honey-bacon dressing -- and it was delicious. The honey-bacon dressing was outstanding and I will be back to try one of their salads with this dressing. The highlight was the tomato feta soup...it was literally exploding with flavor. I used to go here a lot when I worked in Meriden for lunch. I visited again over the weekend and it was just as fantastic as I remembered. Every panini I ate is good, I had the California salad recently and that was a light, filling salad. If you want to treat yourself, get a donut or glass of iced coffee. "Is this place hipster" is actually a question on Yelp? Oyyyy. Well to answer your question, no, it's not. It's a cute little cafe that's a much welcome change from the unnecessary amount of Italian delis on route 5. I was craving soup for lunch, so I turned to Yelp for suggestions near my office. The Eatery came up, and I've had it bookmarked since they opened, so I decided to venture here this afternoon. The first thing I noticed was how inviting The Eatery is. The decor is great, they pull off the industrial chic look quite well and I agree with Joe C., it's not what you'd expect to find in Wallingford. There were some tables to sit at, and based on the other reviews this must be a recent addition. Nothing extravagant, but sufficient for a place this size and a great place to meet a friend for lunch. The staff was extremely friendly and warm, which just added to how welcoming this place is. A+ on staff and decor. The menu was pretty standard for a cafe, lots of paninis, wraps, and salads. Again, a breath of fresh air from the delis in the area, but pretty typical for a cafe. Initially I was pleasantly surprised at their prices..$2 for an iced coffee, $3 for a quesadilla, half of a panini or wrap with a small soup for $7, much more reasonable than I expected. Service was just as quick as it was pleasant, between that and the positive Yelp reviews, my expectations were fairly high at this point. I opted for the half panini with a small soup, I got grilled veggies with provolone cheese, EVOO, and balsamic. The soup of the day was chicken noodle which is exactly what I was craving. The panini was decent, the veggies were fresh and grilled well and it was relatively flavorful, but other than that I was underwhelmed. The panini was unbelievably small and the amount of "stuff" inside was negligible, which you can see in my pictures. There was one small piece of provolone stuck onto the bread, and a few pieces of grilled veggies. I would've been okay with the miniscule sandwich had they actually stuffed it with veggies, but this serving size was something you'd feed a seven year old. The soup was good, basic chicken noodle soup with carrots, again, nothing amazing, but it was sufficient and similarly sized to a cup of soup from a diner. All in all, the food was just okay. Based on food I'd come back, but the portion sizes were way off. I would've rather paid an extra dollar or two for something that would actually satisfy my hunger, because an hour and a half later I'm already ready for a snack. Overall, it's difficult to say whether or not I'll be back. I'd like to say I'd be willing to give them another try if their portion sizes were improved, but otherwise, I'm gonna have to say it's unlikely that I'll be back. read more

I tried the #10 (forgot the name) which had grilled chicken, arugula, goat cheese and mandarin oranges on ciabatta bread with a side of broccoli cheddar soup. Both were delicious and fresh! Say yes to the Bronut. Chicken, bacon, and melted cheddar on a grilled glazed donut with powdered sugar sprinkled overtop. They gave me a knife and fork because it's a little sticky but I just shoved it in my face with my hands and couldn't stop. I'm often weary of ordering grilled chicken at a sandwich joint because the chicken tends to be dry and void of flavor. This chicken was juicy and tender and delicious.
