We were at this restaurant for New Year's Eve last night. To say it was disappointing is being generous. The food was mediocre & for $125 a person (there were 10 of us) we really expected better. The icing on the cake was a 4% surcharge for using a credit card. We were NOT informed of this when we made the reservation. Mind you, Mastercard & Visa charge 2% & American Express 3.5%. When my husband questioned the bill, the manager said it was on every menu. It is, in the tiniest print. This wouldn't have helped us, since we had to guarantee our reservation with a credit card. If we had walked out, they would have charged our card anyway! This practice is very unfair to their waitstaff. We would have left more for Meg, our waitress if this had not happened, but with the 4% added on it got pretty ridiculous. So beware!!! read more

Wonderful food and beautiful modern restaurant. It's Miami vibes and people were more chic and dressed up. We shared the mussels, farro risotto and yucca fries which were full of flavor! We didn't have a reservation so we sat at the bar and although service is slower everywhere on the island I don't understand the negative reviews which initially made me skeptical to try it but glad we did. Rounding up from 2 1/2 stars because of a pleasant ambiance, this experience was a serious disappointment. Our service was poor - our order was taken 20-25 minutes after we arrived and put into the kitchen late, so that the main course arrived at our table about 1 hour 15 minutes after being ordered and nearly 2 hours after being seated. The oysters were small and accompanying sauces were blah. The ceviche of the day was tuna, poorly cut and indifferently marinated. The tostones were very good, the salad indifferent. Our main courses were pork chops, that were overcooked, and the mussels that were good. We received apologies for the delay and offers to by us an extra drink or dessert from the manager, but since we had an unfinished bottle of wine and were running so late with the meal, neither was acceptable. For 3 people our dinner plus bottle of wine came to $345, a 20% service charge was included. A pleasant and efficient busboy was the highlight of our evening. The food was way overpriced for the reputation and quality. Two of our neighbors also were not pleased with their experience. We concluded that this restaurant has no expectations that diners will return for a repeat experience, and frankly didn't care about making things right for us or our neighbors. Hands down the best restaurant in St. Thomas. The lamb shank is falling off the bone, the ahi crudo and grilled avocado are fresh and delicious and the banana tamarind desert is to die for. Our server Emily had perfect suggestions to go along with our dirty martinis. Also the ambiance is light and airy, and private as you're surrounded by mini palm trees. Highly recommended! A breath of fresh air! (Replaced the old Senior Frog's, but couldn't be more different.) I love visiting St. Thomas, but dining out is disappointing, especially in Red Hook. In the past, I've had to choose between outdated, expensive "fine dining" or bar food. Enter The Easterly. This restaurant is a beautiful contemporary spot just west of the ferry dock. I would call the ambiance "casual special occasion:" upscale without being stuffy. Glasses of wine start at about $10 and they have proper (albeit stemless) glassware. There's a view of the marina and you can watch the pelicans diving for fish. I absolutely loved how the chef incorporated veggies and fruits into all of the dishes we tried, even those that were protein-based. Oysters were topped with a watermelon mignonette. A roasted cauliflower head with a chimichurri sauce for only $9 was charred beautifully and might be one of the best things I've eaten in a while. Ginger and pear enlivened fresh-caught wahoo in a tiradito. The whole spiny lobster came with warm farro and a cabbage and green olive salad that upstaged the lobster meat itself. This wasn't fussy food. It was gorgeously-plated, but it was also hearty and flavorful and generously-portioned. (There's pork belly and an 18 oz steak on the menu.) The service was warm and professional and everything came out within 10 minutes of us ordering it. I'm jaded--I've had a lot of disappointing "fine-dining" experiences on the island. I've settled for a burger time after time rather than eat another expensive, disappointing $20 beet and goat cheese salad. Really beautiful restaurant - great atmosphere and friendly staff. The food was really good and fresh. Try the grilled oysters with garlic and breadcrumbs. We also had the market catch, whole fish and it was great. The fish was grouper and they cooked it in a banana leaf. Just be careful of the small bones, but it's worth it. Risotto served alongside was equally delicious. They have a more sophisticated kids menu than other places, featuring steak (cooked perfectly) and chicken (not fried!) Arrived twenty minutes early and were promptly seated no problem. The staff were all very helpful and engaging. Our waiter was very helpful and knew his menu well. We ordered some cocktails, which were ok. The Papaya salad and Raw Oysters were delicious. Oysters were cleaned and prepared nicely. My wife ordered the Fire Roasted Chicken. It was fantastic. The brine and the flavor of the chicken was spot on. The garlic mashed boniato under it was amazing. Need to try and replicate it. I had the fresh catch, Swordfish, which was seasoned and cooked nicely. Could have been a little bigger piece but fit the rest of the dish well. The desserts were delicious. Banana and Maduro skillet was so good, we combined it with the ice cream of the day. All in all I would say we had a great evening. Very nice restaurant, we had to wait for our table (since we were early-no problem) on the street because the bar was reservation only & no standing (Covid-ugh). They took our order, the drinks came when we were already seated. Love, love, love. We've been coming to St Thomas for over 10 years and finding good restaurants can be tricky. The Easterly was recommended by staff at Oceana in Frenchtown (another great Place). Also learned they are owned by the same owners as The Longboard on St. John (which we also love!). The atmosphere here is on point (an approachable upscale beachy vibe), staff is super friendly and food was delicious. We came for dinner and decided to also try brunch a few days later because it was that yummy. There were options on the menu for every type of eater in our party, including our slightly picky 7 year old. For dinner, several of us had the fresh catch of the day which was wahoo when we were there. Crispy Brussels we're outstanding and worth the extra side order for the table. Brunch was also great with avocado toast, sourdough waffles, even grits and lobster on the menu. Our server Kasandra was great and helpful with information about the menu options both days. Recently visited and was blown away by the quality and ambiance of this restaurant! To start the ambiance was amazing and I will definitely be taking notes! The warm lit dining room is striking and the black and white decor creates a chic experience perfect for a casual upscale dinner or date! The food was equally as impressive! To start we had the ahi tuna crudo. The ahi was extremely fresh and all the flavors of the dish worked off each other very well! For entree I choose to go with the catch of the day which was a Wahoo bedded over a mahi fried rice. The wahoo was cooked rare and had an amazing flavor by being just the right balance of fresh, fatty and tender. The mahi fried rice also had a fresh, clean flavor that was a welcome spin on the traditional take out dish. For dessert we ended with the Caribbean Napoleon. All 3 bartenders made a point to greet us, answer questions and see how we were doing throughout the evening. The small plates were fantastic. First time here and we were blown away! The lighting, music, and overall feel was perfect! The greeting by the host was warm and welcoming. This place looks incredible on the inside and offered very comfortable seating. We had the lobster and the Lamb Shank! The food was prepared to perfection and the presentation was immaculate. Our server Sarina was inviting and energetic! She walked us through the menu and communicated perfectly on how the meals were prepared. She made some recommendations on specials for cocktails and food! She literally knew the menu like the back of her hand. One of the more laughable dining experiences we've encountered. Staring with the positives - Lovely vibe/ambiance, the oyster happy hour was delicious and the lobster was fantastic. Moving on, the service was slightly robotic with good intent. As regular foodies, we're quite familiar with cuts of meat - Tonight we ordered a ribeye and assumed it was confused in the kitchen with a NY strip. Things happen, no big deal but when we made mention to our server we were quickly told we were mistaken. At no point to did we ask for a refund or expect it but the cut of meat (whatever it was) was less than average. What appeared to be a manager came to the table and fed us a line of BS "Here on the island the cuts of meat are regulated differently than the US - All of the marbling has been cut off prior due to what we can access on the island" ... Last I checked St. Thomas was the US and a ribeye is marbleized throughout. Maybe consider not lying about about something dumb but thanks for the comedic act... read more

I didn't make reservation correctly but they said had room at the bar in about 45 minutes but they texted in like 10 and were able to seat us. Bar area nice and bartender very young looking and friendly . He like all hot small plates and that was the route we wanted to go and got oysters but he thought 2 small plates wouldn't be enough so I got a side and then it was too much food. Nevertheless the hot small plates we got were very good but our favorite were the grilled oysters light and lemony . We got a half dozen . Then the ribs which were fall off the bone but still big. Then the mussels which there were a lot and the coconut curry was different light and tasty with chorizo in it. Then a side of Brussels which were pretty generous size.
