We came in looking for parking, but there is limited on site parking. We ended up having to park down the road. There is a good amount of seating and has an upscale sports bar vibe. Our server was great and knowledgeable about the menu and kept our waters filled. The food was a great change of pace. It was fresh and had good flavor. If you are looking for something other than Caribbean food while in St Thomas, this is a good choice. The one thing I can't recommend is the choco taco on the dessert menu. The shell was a corn tortilla rather than a waffle shell. The ice cream was okay, but the shell ruined the dessert. read more

I was craving Mexican, so we decided to try Agave. We went around dinner time and were seated immediately. The service was a bit slow, but our server was friendly. We came towards the end of happy hour, so we were able to get their margaritas, which were delicious and strong. The food was really good. It didn't take too long and it was hot and fresh. Right on the main drag in Red Hook. There's a cluster of restaurants that are all owned by the same company, but each has a different theme. Agave is a mexican restaurant with very typical food. This is one of the few that charges you for chips and salsa. It was $9 for a handful of warmed tortilla chips and a ladle of salsa. My wife and I both had burritos and my daughter had fish tacos. We came in all excited, a big group of us, had called in about 2 hours prior, and when we showed up, they didn't have our reservation. We called the correct location, we made reservations due to the big group we had, and luckily after we stated what happened, they were willing to accommodate us. Other bummer is that a waitress called in and so they were down staff. One of the managers was serving drinks to help, there were 2 waitresses for the whole restaurant! Poor ladies! We tried to give our orders all at once so she wouldn't' have to keep coming back and maintain all her tables. The low rating was for the food quality not the service. Our server was great, very friendly and attentive. No complaints there. But you guys... I'm really worried for some of you who said this is great Mexican food. Where are you from???? Is Taco Bell "Mexican food" to you? So.. our expectations might be too high. We live in Texas and have Mexican / Tex Mex on every corner..guys this food was barely comparable to Taco Bell. I probably would have preferred Taco Bell.... At least it would have been cheaper. She went above and beyond to accommodate us, brought a birthday sparkler on request. I had the pollo bowl it was delicious and a very large portion. We had a pitcher of Margaritas, uncharged for better tequila so on the pricey side. Word of caution about the desserts....we were not sure if it was the caramel sauce or the desserts themselves but there was a bitter, maybe spoiled taste? We had the churros and the empanadas and both were not good. In hindsight we should've sent them back! My son spotted this restaurant across the street and we decided to stop in for a late lunch, I'm so glad we did! The food is just as good (if not better) as any Mexican fare we get at home, and there's a lot (NorCal). Salsa made with fresh tomatoes, yes please! I ordered the Churro Waffles. The order came with two waffles, and I ordered a side bacon. I recommend adding in the side of bacon. The saltiness really added to the waffle. Stopped in on a Saturday night with a party of 8. We were looking for great food and still be able to watch an NFL Playoff game, and we got both. If you like tequila this is your place. If you don't care for tequila and still like Spanish- Mexican cuisine, this is your place. Pitchers of margaritas, various tequilas and mixers all around, chips and three amigos (salsa, guacamole, and queso). We dined on chicken, carne asada fajitas, shrimp, chicken and beef burrito bowls and cheese quesadillas. Everything was hot, delicious and plentiful. So much has changed since our last visit. We frequent Agave Redhook each year on our visits. We had an OpenTable reservation, we arrive and was seated. Our server was pleasant and took our orders. There were plates on the table with no silverware. Our food arrived and still no silverware, we had to ask a total 3 times for silverware. Please retrain the young man that brings the food to the table (? food server?) awful attitude, and he leaned over the guest to hand the food rather than walking around and placing food in front of you. The bathroom was dirty with a toilet set swinging like ring. Not sure what the heck has happened to this establishment since March of 2025, but the owner of STRG needs to go in there and spend some time and bring back what he started. Very disappointing, on island for 2 months will spend my money elsewhere. read more

Great spot. We are here twice while in St. Thomas. Probably our favorite restaurant in Red Hook. The food is top notch and the vibe is cool. Good margaritas. Even better entrees like the pollo or carne asada rice bowls, fajitas, tacos, queso, guac, and salsa and more. Only complaint is spotty service sometimes. First time we had great service but second visit service wasn't great...seemed they don't have enough wait staff so they end up spread pretty thin. I wish I could give Agave a better review. Honestly, the place is nice, and the service was pretty good. However, I really didn't like my meal at all. I'll get into that in a few. First, as I mentioned, the restaurant has a nice vibe about it. Excellent music, authentic decor and great drinks. The staff was also very attentive and welcoming. Here are a few other details to keep in mind. I would highly recommend that you make a reservation. I had an early dinner - early evening to be exact and the place was buzzing with patrons. Given the time I arrived and the number of reserved customers, I was offered a seat at the bar. However as luck would have it, I fortunate to get seated in an area that was reserved for other guest later that evening. I got lucky to say the least. Also keep in mind, Agave is located in Redhook. Redhook is a small shopping area ... What we call in the states a strip mall. It's a high volume area filled with tourist and fisherman. Yes fisherman because Redhook bis also the spot tou catch the ferry over to St. John. Again, I would definitely call ahead or make a reservation. The unfortunate part of my experience was my meal. I ordered the pork enchiladas and everything about it seemed to be off. It was served on one or those cast iron skillets. I never had enchilada serve to me on a skillet and now I know why! The flour tortilla that is was served in was burned on the bottom. The meat inside was burned as well. Plus, the sauce that it was served with was not anything I ever had on an enchilada. Needles to say, I didn't finish my meal. My drink on the other had was perfect. I wish I was able to give Agave five stars but the food left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

We ate here 3X during our vacation, my teens loved the flavoring of the food because it was a mixture of Caribbean & Tex/Mex. Dishes were well presented, portion sizes were excellent balanced with their prices, flavor was on point!! If you are a visitor, it would be a shame to skip this restaurant & miss out on their flavors. Very original I must say!! Happy hour it's from 3-6pm & their portions were very generous in combination with their flavorful cocktails. Most restaurants give you tasteless food at expensive prices on the island, but this eatery is the opposite. Will miss Agave!! On our last night the male manager helped us out with a table even though the hostess had said there were none. He also accepted our airline vouchers to pay for the meals since the airline had given us accommodations etc to take another flight the following day. My Big issue was with Matt on 7/6/24 my sister and I came back to the restaurant because of the grilled chicken taco best ever on 7/5/24. We order Chips and Salsa when serving my order Matt tripped and spilled 1/2 salsa over the counter I as him to refill Matt said he couldn't because of the camera and the owner pay the lady $25 per hour to make it I'm a customer it's not my concern what you pay your staff.
