This is a great little local spot! We've been here a few times since arriving on the island. All though I cannot speak to the food experience, I can say what I've seen served & pictured on the Yelp page; it all looks pretty good. This we've found to be a nice place to go and have a few more drinks before ending the evening. They have darts which are always a fun time! Two boards to battle if you have a big crew like we did. They also have really friendly patrons to join in and play too! We have met some really nice people here from all over the country. Bernie's, named for Bernie Lomax (Weekend At Bernie's), is a quaint little lunch spot that serves delicious food, cold drinks, and amazing hot sauce! After a fishing trip, the guys and I all stopped in for a bite. We all ended up getting burgers, because they sounded so good, and fries. Standing alone, the burgers are tasty. Add to them some of the hot sauces they have on hand and WOW, incredible. The serving sizes are well proportioned too. And while the menu isn't huge I can bet there isn't a bad thing on it. The decor is exactly what you'd want from a lunch/dinner/bar establishment. You feel right at home rolling in here in board shorts and flip flops for a beer and a bite. It was just the vibe we were looking for after a day out on the water hooking sharks and other assorted fish. To top it off, our waitress was friendly and had the perfect amount of punctuality. Stopped by one night while in Red Hook before dinner to have a drink with my girlfriend. Cool bar with great vibes. It was packed so that says enough about this place. The bartender was fast and prompt and made my girlfriend a fruity drink and recommended a local beer for me. We sat outside on their patio and enjoyed. Cool spot! read more

This place had the best customer service since setting foot on St.Thomas for over a week. We happened to come in on National Rum day and scored a free T-shirt and sunglasses when ordering one of the selected $5 drinks during happy hour. Our server recommended a Cowboy burger which was excellent. It is very reasonably priced for a good quality burger. Recommendation "medium rare is the way to go in this burger." We trusted our waiters recommendation and were so pleased with our order. I ordered a side of Caesar salad which was also great. My friend got a side of sweet potato fries which he enjoyed as well. The food was excellent but you can tell that this was an older building. There were some sketchy people coming in and out while gambling dice on the bar table which is okay but can get very noisy when you can barely hear the person next to you. There are 7 of us, and we stopped in with the intention of eating after a long day of beaches and sightseeing. There were a few people drinking at the bar and a couple playing darts. It was not busy at all. One of the bartenders seated us, and she brought us our menus and bottles of water, which btw are $3 per bottle. We figured out what to order and waited for her to come back to take our order, and she never did. She and the male bartender stood at the bar talking to each other. My husband and I arrived in St. Thomas yesterday and needed to get a late lunch. Driving through Red Hook, we spotted Bernie's and decided to eat there. This is a very casual open air place that looks like it's been around for a long time. But let me tell you, the hamburgers we got there were top notch! Love this little spot. I was greeted as I walked in. The waitress took some time to come to me but her service from time she spoke to me was top notch. She checked on me periodically as well as most of the times she walked by since I was in the middle of the room. Burger- cooked to request and flavorful. Long Island iced tea- was not mixed well. An underrated happy hour spot you should not miss, we found ourselves a few days during our trip enjoying HH drinks and some bar snacks. The waitresses are all gorgeous and super nice and we never waited long for food or drinks. The mozzarella sticks were some of the largest I have ever seen- definitely share them with people as it's a lot for 2 people. The cheese fries were pretty good as well. Only complaint was that the bathrooms were a bit ratchet, with one having a legit pee puddle in it but oh well. read more

We stayed at Sapphire Beach for Christmas and sampled most of the places in RedHook and Bernie's became the go to spot for our family of 4. They have a great breakfast menu and the omelettes were excellent. The service was fast and very friendly as well. We were able to pop in and out for breakfast quickly and this allowed us to get on with our adventures for the day. We had dinner there one night and the burgers delicious and the staff very attentive. They have a couple of dartboards and our teenage son's enjoyed playing darts while my wife and I enjoyed a few drinks after dinner as well. read more

Pretty much a dive bar; was not a fan of the food. We just had some appetizers (mozz sticks and fried pickles) but they were gross. The pickles had some very strange breading/seasoning that was overly salty. Like way crazy salty. The bathrooms are disgusting. Service was nice, however. The food here is definitely bar food-ish, meaning subpar quality and probably not an experienced chef in the kitchen. I came here for breakfast and had an omelette. It was ok, a little heavy with the salt, too much cheese. It reminded me of the omelettes I make at home, and I'm no cook. I like ordering omelettes at restaurants because they are usually much better. My husbands dish was also ok. Probably won't be back. No complaints regarding customer service. read more

I ordered the breakfast tacos. How can you mess that up?!...First I asked for sausage, but got bacon...neither here nor there. Coming from California we love our tacos, but this place in my opinion was just okay. Nothing special, authentic, or homemade. I would give this place 0 stars if I could! Imagine traveling all day, being exhausted, waiting for your condo to be ready and just wanting a quick bite to eat but you're ignored! If that's what you want...go to Bernie's! We got there and stood around waiting to be seated...nothing. We figured it was a self seating place so we sat at the bar. There were workers standing around doing absolutely nothing and a male bartender who walked past us about 10 times. He made eye contact with us and quickly looked away. There was a couple next to us and had this "wtf" look on their faces because they saw us get flat out ignored. At that point, my better half said "let's just go." I was really ticked off. The guy came back past (ignored us AGAIN) and I said thanks for wasting our time and continuing to ignore us. That caught his attention then he offered to make us a drink. Umm no thanks bud! We didn't even get greeted and got the sorry excuse of "it's so busy and there's a shift change". FYI...the place was barely occupied and the girls working there were just standing around and on their phones. I know/can detect discrimination when it's presented and it was definitely there! That was the first eatery we went to on St. Thomas. I heard places in Red Hook were racist but I didn't let that experience ruin my trip or stop me from going to other establishments. Every other restaurant we went to (a whole lot in a week) greeted us, had superb service and food too! Maybe Bernie's staff thought we wouldn't tip hahaha. Jokes on them because I am a great tipper. This is another Red Hook location that I wouldn't recommend. We did not try the food but we did order two drinks. Both were terrible granted one was a knockoff seltzer so that's not really their fault but the strawberry daiquiri was absolutely horrible. Tasted would like straight sugar and juice. Service was not great. However in fairness they definitely deserve a solid one and not a zero because when I did complain about the strawberry daiquiri they took it off my. We did not try the food we literally stayed for two minutes and dipped because it was just not good. read more

Definitely not recommended! Id I could give this place a zero, it would be a zero. As soon as we walked in we asked for a drink menu & we were told they don't have one. When we asked for an "old fashion but without...." she said they don't make those. Like... for reals?! How about letting us finish our order before interrupting? The waitress was very short with us & kept interrupting. She yelled from across the bar that masks need to be worn if you're standing. She told my table that we could order food but told the table next to us (who were friends of ours) that the kitchen was closed. We decided to leave and she decides to come up and asked what we were doing. When we told her we were leaving because she was rude, she responded with "good I don't have to make anything for you to eat?" Uh, excuse me! My wife my daughter and myself came in to eat, we stood at the bar for 23 minutes while neither of the two women working there even acknowledged our presence! They looked at us multiple times and never once even said a word. So after waiting and waiting while they just stood there taking shots with customers we left. Worst customer service I've ever seen. Let's start this review off with the fact that there were over 70 murders in one month on this island last year. Ok......a few days ago I, along with the rest of my group, we're actually at fear for our LIVES at this place. First night on the island and we were recommended to come here by a local. 5 minutes into arriving around 9:30-10pm, I went to the bathroom with my 2 cousins. My cousins were outside of the stall in the line, waiting for me to come out. As soon as I opened the stall, all I see is a 200lb islander lady practically body slam my cousin (wearing white the soon to be bride) into the WALL. The reason being for her laying her hands on my cousin, was due to her asking why the line was taking so long and my cousin said there aren't many stalls. For the pure fact of simply acknowledging her voice and responding, she then shoved my other cousin who said nothing, into the wall. Probably an attempt to steal her wedding ring. I immediately went into actions before she could hit my cousin again, I slammed the attacker into the wall, In defense. We then get in a brawl until people stepped in. As I'm looking desperately for my phone, the same woman lunges for another one of us in my group and this time being my own sister. I then had to literally bulldoze this woman to the floor for her to finally get off my sister. In the mean time, the bar owner and bartenders were trying to kick us all out and close up the doors/side windows. I was so so scared. At this point some of the girls in the group were begging the owners to not forsake us literally. Thankfully the cops decided to show up and grabbed the woman as soon as she got back up and tried to lunge for us again..The cops literally told us they know her, she does not like white people and that she is affiliated with people who are armed who may be close by and that we needed to leave immediately. That explained why the owners were closing up all the windows and doors...By the love of the lord, our taxi bus arrived within minutes of the officers saying that to us. Very very scary night. Never wear anything of value that could cost you your life in these 3rd world countries. Danger is everywhere, especially where there is true poverty in the economy. I would highly suggest staying the F away from this dump of a bar unless you're truly a local and won't stand out. read more

I really appreciate her looking out for the female tourist guests who were on the receiving end of unsolicited passes by locals and drunk tourists.
