It's always fun to try new things, and I was excited to stumble across The Eagle when looking for a place to start a night on the town. Parking in Charlotte is classically bad, especially for those from out of town who don't know the secrets. I was very happy to find ample covered parking available directly attached to this restaurant. We arrived around 5:30pm and it was nearly empty, so we had our choice of seating. There are bar, booth, table, and outdoor options, and we opted for a booth. They were spacious and comfortable. Drink and appetizer orders were taken quickly - My party had a Blackberry Lemonade, a Peach Jalapeño Margarita, and a draft beer. All were good and no complaints there. Our appetizer was the spicy chicken dip, which is served with tortilla chips. It was a large portion and very tasty, definitely recommend! From there, service started getting notably slow, and there was a long wait before we saw anyone again to place entrée orders or refills on drinks. The server was friendly, but seemed pre-occupied and kept going back to a laptop at the bar. I suspect some personal matter had him distracted (and it happens to all of us!) but I wish he would have been able to step away to a private space and had someone else cover for him for a bit. For entrees, we got: - The southern chopped salad (good flavor, but very heavy on the dressing and I would ask for that on the side next time. Also, go with the half portion - The server encouraged the full portion and it was HUGE.) - The Fried Chicken Sandwich (a very filling portion and good flavors, albeit a bit messy. I asked for added jalapeños which never came.) - The Carolina Braised Pork Sandwich (again, a huge portion and good flavor, although the meat was very juicy and it was messy to eat. We also asked for jalapeños here and never saw them.) - Sides were Mac & Cheese (delicious!) and collard greens (Decent, but they could have used some vinegar and we were told there was none available.) Visited on a Wednesday evening around 8 pm. Not busy at all so upon arrival we were able to be sat immediately. We opted for seating at the bar. The bartender was super friendly, and efficient and gave great recommendations. Ordered their fries, and sweet potato dish with a half chicken kale salad. The salad was a winner!!!!! It was very tasty, the cornbread croutons blended very well with the salad and even though they did add the dressing already mixed in, it was not overpowering. Yelp really does need to add the 1/2 Star! This was a great stop after a long work day followed by a little wandering around in a very trendy (do people still use that word) part of town! Frankie was an amazing server! He gave us descriptions and answered all questions. He was prompt with bringing beverages and brought water with him as we were seated. THAT is a great idea!! The place was not busy on a Sunday afternoon around 3:30pm, which was great for us because we were hungry. I love how they have large booths that face the bar where you can see multiple televisions above the bar. The open-air space is wonderful as well. If we hadn't been outside all day, it would have been our choice; but we needed the cooler area. The collards were not as tender as they should be (for someone who cooks them); another 30min in the pot would have done wonders. I don't feel their chicken is 'fried' the ordinary way, but maybe pressure fried (think of the original bucket place). It's flavorful & juicy, but NOT crispy. We did have one issue, but Frankie promptly got it corrected. The hot honey that accompanies the chicken is perfect, if you like that. It gives off the sweetness without too much heat like some others. The spoon bread was outstanding! Needed nothing but the spoon that came with it. The herb dusted skinny fries..YUMMMM! The atmosphere was just okay, but what really stood out was the friendly and attentive service--our server was great, and everything arrived incredibly fast. For my entrée, I had the quarter white meat chicken, which was decent but nothing extraordinary. However, the sweet potato crock was hands-down the highlight of my meal--absolutely delicious! My only real complaint was the music. While I don't mind rock music, it was overly loud, making it hard to enjoy conversation. I have been longing to return here after a fab Yelp party last year. (Plenty of my friends have gone, but not us.) I took my husband here for our anniversary lunch and did not regret a thing. The young lady who waited on us was very pleasant and helpful. We skipped the cocktails, but had delicious draft beers instead. For an appetizer, we had the spicy chicken dip. We could not stop eating it. It paired great with the beers. We both had the fried chicken (he had white, I had dark). My husband swears the collard greens here are the best ever. He was a bit disappointed in the horseradish mashed potatoes, but I enjoyed them. The macaroni & cheese is absolutely divine. Literally could eat that every day and not regret a thing. I really enjoyed my visit. They have a nice space with booths that fit up to 6 comfortably. They have space for more private parties. They also offer outside seating. They have a great beer and whisky list. The cocktail and wine lists were small but includes really good options. I went with the Bourbon Punch and absolutely yes! It was a great size, I could actually taste the bourbon, and it was simply delicious. As for the food, we started with the Hushpupies. They were fresh and hot. We smashed those in a heartbeat. I recommend skipping the Mac n cheese. They weren't bad, just nothing special and came out Luke warm. The drum sticks were really good and the spicy honey drizzle adds the perfect kick. This was my first time taking my son to visit The Eagle Food & Beer Hall in Charlotte, NC. **Parking:** The parking is located at the back of the establishment. We went in the evening when most of the stores that share the lot were closed, so there was plenty of parking available. **Inside:** If you enter through the back, you and your guest will need to walk through the restaurant to the front for the hostess. The hostess last Saturday was really friendly, making for a great introduction to the restaurant. The staff was excellent at refilling our drinks and explaining the menu to us. Keep in mind that everything is served separately and meant to be shared. The restaurant is large, so the noise level was balanced. However, I can imagine it getting loud. One downside is that if you are seated around the bar area, you cannot see the TV unless you are 5'2" or shorter, which detracts from the experience. This was not well thought out when the area was designed. The food was hot when served. The spoonbread was the highlight of the meal--I could eat it by itself, it was so good. I have been to The Eagle multiple times. This time I was there as part of a party of 14 people for my best friend's birthday. We all came in prepared to order whatever we wanted when someone mentioned the Family Style option where it's $24/person and you get fried chicken and multiple sides served shareable/family style. We all decided that the food sounded good and like an easy painless option, and boy was that the truth! Every dish was so good - I may miss something but we had at minimum fried chicken served with a hot honey (amazing!), Mac and cheese, hush puppies, collards, kale salad, corn bread and buffalo chicken dip. We ordered the Whole Chicken(TENDER AND JUICY BUT WEIRD SEASONING USED) with hot honey glaze sauce. Seems like there's an Old Bay flavor in the season background which is a NO for me. This place is great with some delicious options for food and drinks. LOCATION & PARKING This a a national chain with only one location in Charlotte in one of the trendiest areas in town (South End). This place has a great vibe with some great cool people and servers. There is tons of free parking in the shared parking garage of the mixed property (residential and retail shops around). MENU The menu of a beer hall is pretty much what you'd expect. My wife and I had the fried chicken sandwich, the Carolina braised pork sandwich, the coleslaw and the spoonbread (corn bread). For drinks, we had the blackberry lemonade with no alcohol and a peach hard cider. Everything was delicious. PLUS AND CONS The common spaces and restrooms were pretty clean. Our server was super friendly and helpful. Now, the only issue we had was that we went on a Sunday evening about two hours before closing time. We were sitting near the bar, and the bar staff were starting to clan up with a product that had an extremely strong smell that bothered our first experience at this place. I'm sure it was not ill-intentioned, but keep that in mind if you are planning to eat there late: Avoid the bar area later in the evening just in case. We haven't been since it opened basically but ended up going back for a date night. We sat at the bar, which had comfortable seats. The bartender was not have been the most attentive, but we never felt flat out ignored. The only complaint I had is the bathroom was a mess. There were paper towels all over, one stall was clogged, and the other didn't have toilet paper. As for the food, we really enjoyed everything we tried and felt like it was priced well. I got the grilled cheese and succotash, we split the biscuits and I liked that the butter was already softened.
