There are few options for food in this area, especially at the beginning of the week when the other places are closed.In the mornings, they offer donuts, but get their quick as they sell out within an hour.  The rest of the day is pizza. Nothing else. Ignore their online menu because they got rid of everything else and only make pizza, but they are making solid pizza!  We ordered two pies and both were very good! Plus they deliver. The place is a bit expensive, but I get it. It's in OBX and not a chain. Other places are still cheaper though. We got a half pepperoni and half sausage pizza for $30. The lady who took my phone order wasn't friendly. When my wife picked up the pizza with my son, she said the woman was less than pleasant as well. My 5 year old son chimed in and said, "she was not very nice." The pizza was average to above average, but they were very stingy with the toppings as you can see from the picture. Those slices had the most toppings on them, as the ones we ate had even less. I really wanted to like this place, but I won't be going back. My wife got donuts that we will try tomorrow. read more

The pizza was fantastic! We ordered the Buxton with the balsamic drizzle and it was by far the best pizza I've had in a while. The crust was perfectly crispy with a soft inside. It was a white pizza and both meats were a solid touch. The crust also had a slight crisp, which I preferred. Each type I tried is below. Strawberry Frosted - This was tasty, enough of a strawberry flavor. Glazed - This was good, not overly glazed and far from too sweet. Vanilla Icing with Sprinkles - This was my favorite. I really enjoyed the vanilla flavor with the added touch of the sprinkles. Vanilla Icing with Raspberry Glaze - I enjoyed this, but there was not a heavy taste of the glaze. The pizza was decent, but when it arrived the had been carried like a football and everything in the pizza box was a jumbled mess. The wings were okay, not enough sauce and not crispy at all. The cheese bread was the least favored item. There was virtually no cheese on it and was badly over cooked. The highlight of the order was the mozzarella sticks. They were huge and very good! The Pizza there is okay overall. However the pepperoni (meat) slices are tiny and the crust is similar in taste to Pizza Hut's. Their gluten free menu is underwhelming according to my father and consists of pre-packaged/not fresh food. According to my brother, the donuts and Eclairs are hard and dry too. As for what I can say about the ambience: this place is a smaller partition of a larger building, hidden around the corner of a glass atrium of a shop similar to that of a Wings or an Eagles beach shop. $23 for six small donuts and two small eclairs. I would be totally fine paying that type of price for amazing donuts but these were pretty basic. I gave it two stars instead of one because these donuts were perfectly fried and the dough was spot on. The eclairs however were horrible and might have even tasted a bit like pizza with bacon even on the bottom of one. Gag. The space is run down and messy. I might expect to pay that price for a cute atmosphere but it's literally in a big souvenir shop. I am very picky about giving business to people that care about their location, setting and delivery of their product. I called back in to question how much donuts are. Sounds like my donut part should have been around $12 so that means my horrible eclairs were $5 each. I would probably pay $12 for the donut part because it's close, convenient, the dough and cooking were all pretty spot on. If I could separate my review I'd give 0 stars for eclairs and price and 4 stars for donuts! But since I can't I have to go half way in between. ***update: $2 per cake donut $3 per yeast donut and a whopping $4 per maple bacon donut So for my 6 donuts it was $19 after tax for six donuts. Doughnuts... not an item I ever crave but considering someone brought them back to the campsite and I had a pot of freshly brewed Sumatra ready to go, well, you know. These are all the same base level doughnut with no option for variety. Like a Honda civic where you tack on a few extra features, but the underlying vehicle itself remains a unexciting. The cake is yellow (with a slight vanilla flavor) and they were all cooked correctly as I would expect for $1 each. The differing icings and glazes were okay. The lemon and vanilla caramel didn't express any special feelings in my mouth. I polled my fellow campers for any significant leanings either way. A teen said the chocolate was average and the cake was unimpressive and the sentiment was echoed around the circle. So the whole doughnut experience this morning is summed up with a resounding "Meh." The pizza wasn't quite as crispy as I prefer, but that's a matter of taste. Good, classic tasting pizza. We picked up the pizza late at night and the workers (could have been the owners, not certain) gave us a free box of donuts to try as well, since, as they said, they throw away the old ones anyway. Also ordered some bbq chicken wings. Nothing special; but we have a lactose intolerant person in our family. The wings were a bit undercooked (not crispy). We are forever customers! I have never experienced such amazing customer service before. Once they informed us the pizza would be 15min when in reality it took thirty. The owner apologized and sent us home with extra free food. Another time the pizza did not look appealing to the owner, he confirmed we were okay with it and then gave it to us for a big discount. The food is awesome! The pizza is not too cheesy/ saucy, it is light and hits the spot every time. We always get the Hawaiian with jalapeños. What truly pushes the place over the edge is their AMAZING doughnuts!!!! Never have I had doughnuts these good, and they don't leave a gross aftertaste like most do. The only problem I have with this place is that they are closed Saturdays and Sundays. When we come to OBX for the weekend, we stock up on doughnuts Friday to last us the remainder of our trip. read more

The dough shack is a combination bagel, pizza and doughnut shop and I would go back for any of these items. We got a variety of doughnuts from lemon (my personal favorite) , sprinkle (my son's favorite), bacon maple (my husband's favorite) , and s'more flavored. Ok I didn't eat here but I did visit. I tried to order by phone 6:15 PM on a Saturday night in June. I kept getting the message, "the voicemail box was not set up". So I decided to drive there. Upon arrival I was greeted by the counter person and I told her I want to place an order. She told me "we are out of dough and we are only open for people who placed orders by phone" I told her I tried to call but the call went to a voicemail that was not set up. She said "yes we ran out of dough so we took the phone off the hook." Really ? She tried to suggest some places to go but in the long run we drove 15 miles to Nino's in Avon and had our pizza in under 20 minutes. Pro tip. If they don't answer the phone, move on. read more
