Date of visit: July 30, 2025 Now where was I, I just left Rehoboth Beach this morning after a nights stay. Today I took RT9 north along the coast, Delaware river. All I could think about was a foot-long from the Dog House. After a great cruise and a stop at the museum at Dover Air force base I made it to New Castle. Making the merge onto RT13 I could the sign ahead of me. Parking can be tough but there was spot out front. I did notice the sign has changed, again. My father had been taking me here since 1969. It was our place to go on our Saturday trips from Jersey since it is a sales tax free state. After walking in I couldn't help notice how the inside had changed (last time here was 2021). If you think it has a nostalgic feel now, you have seen it in the '80s and '90s. They have taken down all the hand painted signage and replaced the menu board with a modern one, dang. I just hope they don't plan on franchising the place. I managed to grab a seat at the counter and in no time I was placing my order. All in all, the food is still done the same. Dogs split and grilled on the flat top and the fries are great with their own signature seasoning. If you are in the area and wanting a great foot-long or even a burger please stop in, you won't be disappointed. Peace. read more

My husband and I were on our way to New Jersey and since he's a fan of hotdogs I figured this would be a good place to stop for lunch...well traffic around this area YIKES and it was March, not even summer when people are traveling to the beaches! I digress. This place is basic as far as looks, its counter service, and you can see the team prepare your food. They've got hot dogs, burgers, and you can even get a grilled cheese. Menu is basic but they are good at what they do. My husband loved his hot dog, my burger was great, also I got a side of french fries which might be in the top 5 of perfectly cooked fries I have ever eaten! My husband was extra hungry as it was a late lunch so he finished off his meal with a grilled cheese with ham which was cooked perfectly on the flat top grill. We finally made a stop here while traveling and another place I would have wished I went to sooner. No frills counter with really friendly service. Menu is pretty simple, but you go in knowing hot dogs, burgers, and cheesesteaks. We split an order of fries and I had a chili dog with onions and a hamburger with ketchup, pickles, and onions. We had lunch at the Dog House yesterday when we were in New Castle for an afternoon and had a great time. It's been around since 1952, and you can tell! It's got tons of vintage charm (the spinning barstools, watching the cooks work, the whole setup. I had a cheese dog with onion, spicy mustard, and relish. It was so simple, classic, and delicious. They cut their hot dogs in half so that more of them have contact with the griddle and the cheese gets perfectly melted. Their dogs are footlongs, so it was quite a meal. My husband got a cheesesteak, which was surprisingly good. And some fries as a side. Overall, it was a great meal. Affordable, simple, classic American fare, and pretty fun. This is a gem that is worth a stop when driving on 95. First, the staff is incredibly nice, fun, and highly professional. They are serious about good food. Was in Philadelphia for work and took an extra day to see Wilmington DE...decided to stop here for a quick lunch -- and craving a hot dog. Love the old school vibe of this place...you sit at the counter and order while watching them grill in front of you...super cool. I went with a cheese dog and added mustard, relish and pickles. I also added fries...they bring that out right away with your drink so you can munch while the dog (or burger or cheesesteak) is cooking. The Dog House is a fixture in New Castle! Being from NJ I stumbled on it years ago on the way to a vacation in OC Maryland. I love hot dogs and grew up in Northern NJ eating Texas Wieners. The hot dogs at the Dog House are a totally different animal (or should I say breed of dog?) nice tasty foot long hot dog on a delightful bun. A quick stop at a place that people have been telling me to get to for months now! Grabbed a chili cheese dog and fries. The quality of the dog itself was pretty average but the toppings were good and I enjoyed the roll as well. Some people may not like this roll but it was a bit crusty and almost like a smaller hoagie roll and I liked it. The fries were crisp, hot, and had just enough salt. If you give Dog House less than 5 stars, you're missing the whole damn point of this place. With the exception of a recent update, the Dog House has the same nostaglia and taste as when I was a kid, and I pray it'll never change. After moving out of the state more than 10 years ago, it's easily on the list of easy and affordable places that I MUST eat at when I return to see family. Call it in, pay with cash. No frills, all the glory. One of the few places to serve malt vinegar with fries (vinegar in bottle - not on fries). A rare surprise. The cheesesteak was one of the best I've had in my life. Perfectly melted cheese. I now reside in Sussex County and I don't go above "the bridge" to NCC and not stop in to get a chili dog w/yummy French fries and now their delicious milkshakes. When I am done visiting relatives in Delaware I make it a point to stop here and get a few hot dogs and fries. The dogs are about a foot long and they top it with whatever you want. The hot dogs taste great. The good thing about them is that the roll they are on tastes great as well. There is nothing worse than a good hot dog with a crappy bun. The French fries are really good. Crisp, salty, some of the best I've eaten. The staff is friendly. The inside is plain but clean. Nothing fancy, but then again I didn't go there to look around. I go there to get delicious hot dogs. I grew up in walking distance to The Dog House, so we stopped in while passing through. Based on just this visit the food was good and service was quick and polite. Based on the past, before we moved a few years ago I had a bit of sticker shock. The prices have sky rocketed like every where else and the portion size were smaller. I get it with new ownership and higher overhead. I was originally happy to see they now accept debit cards. But, they failed to mention the BS 3% service charge. Solid Pleasantly surprised. Got a dog which was fantastic. Beef/pork combo foot long with mustard. They toast the roll which made it hug the dog and the condiments nicely. Also got a cheese steak which was also great and the same kind of roll. Loved this place. read more
