This place is FIre. We ordered some subs and chips, and we were stuffed as a mini bucket lol. Our first time here and I ordered some Subway Sandwiches with several pieces of salami and turkey slices. A legit sub shop in Wilmington. All the other ones have sold out, casapullas, capriottis etc. Got a cheese steak with lettuce and fried onions. Nicely seasoned steak, you could taste it in every bite. The roll was great to wasnt soggy or anything. Considering it's a serpe roll and serpes has some mediocre rolls. The fact that the roll was still in great shape is a plus. Full sandwich as well, no empty spots or anything. It was filled to capacity with the ingredients. I stopped in at Yatz's sub shop today. I dont think I've been there since it moved from over by St Elizabeth's area, Cleland Hghts. Could be 35 yrs or so. I ordered a large Italian. The Staff was incredibly friendly, courteous and helpful. The sandwich was made to perfection. Exactly the way a sub should be made. Meats tasted extremely fresh. The provolone tasted out of this world, I think it was also fresh and sharp. To top it off I was reminiscing with the 3 lovely ladies behind the counter about St E's, Yatz, (Sotti) NO idea how to spell his name. As we chatted one of them told me her name, Cindy & I realized we knew one another from way back in the mid 70's and St E's. Dear People of Wilmington, DE. Do you have any idea what lurks in your backyard? NO? It is simply one of the best hoagies I have sunk my choppers into in the last 10 years. Oops, my blunder. Hailing from South Jersey, I call them hoagies. Properly, I should call them submarines or subs when I cross the Delaware border. My poker buddy has been telling me about Yatz now for several months. He said there are two things that go into their subs that makes the difference. First, the bread. The bread is baked fresh daily at a neighboring Italian bakery. Secondly, they slice each of meats and cheeses, to order, for every single sandwich. I'm a firm believer in both of these, and at the first bite of my first Yatz submarine, I'm hooked. They also have cheesesteaks and water ice! I simply cannot wait to go back again. I imagine everything else is going to be second best from here out for a long time. read more

Along with Casapula's Elsmere, this is my other favorite place to get an Italian. They cut most of the veggies fresh when you order so you get a bit of an extra snap when you chew. It's one of the few "real deal" sub shops left. I think the people that work there are awesome. read more

Oh how I miss you Yatz subs. I grew up 2 blocks away and ate here often. It is the inexpensive yet tasty alternative to Capriotti's down the street. I used to walk here with my sister for ice cream cones in the Summer. This is one of the hole in the wall gems of the Little Italy area. Not a home run, but a solid stand-up double. I love cheesesteaks, yada yada yada, so I went to Yatz's. Yatz's (pronounced like the game) hearkens back to what I imagine Wilmington looked like in the 1950's. Everyone in the righ neighborhood goes there for the water ice, which they serve outside, which I think is cool. The cheesesteak was pretty good. For my money, I still prefer Maryland Ave. Sub Shop or Goodfellas, but this one does the job. I also got a vanilla ice cream cone, which was delicious. My favorite part of Yahtzee's is how bleeping nice everyone is. All the workers greet you and let you know how close they are to having your order ready. This is a fairly small shop with no seating. It's very clean and bright inside. We picked up two Italians with everything. The sandwiches were good, sub, hoagie, whatever, it's better than most to be had where I live. We went for the nine inch instead of the foot long, they lasted about 2 minutes. The bread was fresh all the meats were top quality. The people were friendly and the prices are reasonable, I will go back when I'm in town. * parking could be tough. * it is small and narrow I can imagine it get cramped at times. * the no cell phone use sign made me chuckle. read more

Everyone says Yatz is the best..... I tried to find out a few days ago. Called for 45 minutes on my commute from Downingtown to Wilmington. - no less than 10x - every call ended up in some mailbox greeting that wasn't setup. So I decided to drive there anyway on my way home from work to pickup a couple subs. No big deal - I will just order at the counter and wait a few minutes. I walk in at about 5:30 pm on a weekday, there are already 5 people standing at the counter. Three people behind the counter are making sandwiches. I stood there for 10 minutes..... Everyone is still making sandwiches. None of the workers talked. Nobody said can I help you... Nothing. During my 10 minute wait - I decided to try to call to make sure I was calling the right number. Sure enough... the phone rings and rings and rings - nobody blinks. They all just keep making sandwiches. I wait a few minutes and do it again - same thing - they are all deaf or they just don't care about phone in orders. One last time - 3rd call and nobody stops to answer. 10 minutes later I walked out. I guess I will never find out if they have good products or not - will NEVER GO BACK OR ATTEMPT TO GO BACK. read more

Yatz's is a hidden gem in Little Italy. On a corner of a busy street, parking is hard to find, but definitely worth the trip. Yatz's is famous for their hoagies (which I have yet to try!) and their Italian Ice. $1.00 for a small (but it is not very small) Italian ICe! What a steal! Rita's probably charges $3.00.
