Tried this place out since I had some time during the day and I'm glad I did because it was unexpectedly amazing. I saw they have breakfast at a really reasonable price, and I definitely want to make it in one morning, but I'm always running late somewhere lol. Today we ordered hot dogs and fries. I really enjoyed the hot dogs. They were pork, which was fine with me, and they were good. The fries could have been a little crispier and weren't seasoned, but they were still really good. Finally made it to Pineville to try this institution. It was on a whim and unfortunately I didn't realize I had missed the breakfast set, but I ordered an egg and cheese on Texas toast (only breakfast thing available after 11) and settled in the retro dining area The place is, as I suppose diners should be, a little down at heel. The booth in which I sat was wobbly, as demonstrated by the child kicking and wriggling at the table next to me the entire time. But spotless; the staff keeps the place clean and neat like nobody's business. The food wasn't much to base my review on, as it was a really simple item that they managed to muck up because they added bacon despite me asking for none, likely because they didn't believe people would not want meat. It's not exactly a vegetarian-friendly space and I don't eat much meat. So I expect to return to try something else but in the meantime let me talk about the staff. The people who work here are what one hopes of southern hospitality. They are warm, friendly, hardworking as can be, and treat you like a treasured guest. I immediately fell in love with the place because of them. Let's hope on my return for breakfast I can bump this review up a level, because seriously, these people make me happy to live in the South. read more

While traveling with few extra hours we stopped to see the President Polk museum and sought a quick lunch in Pineville. The Dive N was in the perfect location but quite busy on a Friday afternoon at 1:45. We got the last parking spot, but placed our order (including a BLT with no mayo) with no wait at the desk. We sat down with our drinks and waited a long time for my "no mayo" order. It came with "extra mayo" but I'll still give 4 stars for an interesting diner with good food at reasonable price. I love this place. Growing up in a small NC town, we had a Tasty Freeze right down the street and the Dive N reminds me so much of it! The hot dogs were delicious, tucked nicely in a steamed bun piled high with flavorful slaw and chili. The cheeseburger had the perfect meat to bun ratio and each bite kept getting better than the last. I already can't wait to go back and try some other stuff but the old fashioned hot dogs and cheeseburgers are right up my alley. They have limited hours and are closed on Sunday. The food is mediocre. The workers are all of one particular demographic as if the manager hired all of her girl friends. I ordered a lunch to go and inquired about their breakfast. As I was leaving with my food, one lady said see you next time for breakfast! Then one of the women actually CACKLED ... LOUD AND SUSTAINED. Exactly like a witch. Here's what I can tell you. This little home town restaurant has the best food, customer service and friendly staff ! It's busy and there's usually a line so pack your patience . But like anywhere there's a line - there's a reason- and this is it - the food ! It's good , it's affordable and the great customer service brings us all back again and again! This morning, I was in a rush, but needed to pick up some breakfast. I called the Dive in, and the lady on the phone was very nice and took my order after I had a couple of questions. I arrived and picked up my breakfast order of pancakes, liver, pudding, and eggs and everything was delicious. I would normally never give an establishment like this more than three stars for excellent service. That said the service was excellent with and food delicious! I was thoroughly impressed by the coleslaw. No mayo or slaw dressing but just a wonderful slightly sweet slaw that was absolutely delicious. My southern style hotdog was a hotdog with slaw, onions and chili! Such a wonderful taste treat! My wife also enjoyed their standard hotdog with onions and mustard. Burger was like the kind you got in middle school. Dry and grey. The bread was not fresh. Was expecting more as we'd heard good things.

This is place phenomenal for breakfast!! 5 stars every time. With that said, nothing irritates me more than someone that conducts a business meeting in a restaurant. 6 people talking about a companies business airing their dirty laundry in a restaurant is rude and inconsiderate to the business and fellow customers. Especially when it's clear that they are each trying to talk over one another at a volume that is inappropriate to the extent that the whole restaurant is bothered by their loud griping conversation. I moved tables to get away from it on my own. I suggest this well run establishment, post a sign, to deter business meetings from occurring and if it does to the point it is disturbing other customers, a manager should it address before it becomes a problem (I.e. customers changing tables, etc.) Still 5 stars for breakfast. This place shut down during COVID. So happy to see them back in action! I stopped in for lunch on a Thursday and it was very busy. You order at the counter and they bring your food when it's ready. They will go ahead and fix your beverage while you wait. I had the Gyro which was really good. The fries, not so much. clearly frozen and not well cooked. The dining room is small and their are some outside tables under an awning. The service was real good and the staff was very nice and professional. I have never in my life, experienced the rudeness and disrespect from their employee as I did this morning to the point of calling me a liar across the restaurant. It was so outrageous. This place has been on my list for a while so I checked it out for lunch one day. There was a sign on the door asking for patience because they started using a new ordering system that day. Despite that, the line moved quick and the food was ready pretty quick as well. (4/19/21) I'm having my car repaired up on Westinghouse and my wife had packages to be mailed. So I walked 2.1 miles to Pineville. The walk itself took about an hour and I got the packages through the outgoing mail slot at the post office. As I was starting my walk back I noticed that Dive N was open. I'd wanted to try their food since they opened but had never given it any more than a passing glance as I'd drive by. The interior is pretty small but there's a large patio out front. When you walk in there's a smattering of memorabilia and you're at the front counter. The menu is pretty extensive. Mostly there are breakfast and lunch selections. Dive N does close at 15:00, so dinner really isn't an option. I ordered a Junkyard Plate. It has a bit of everything, eggs, toast or biscuit, meat (bacon, sausage or ham), cheese, peppers, onions or hash browns. I'm looking forward to it's arrival. It was so good! It was all cooked together with the exception of the biscuit that was light and fluffy. It was served in a container and had condiments and flatware included. I'll definitely make Dive N my new go to for breakfast and lunch. read more
